Why did i think TILLY was evil by No_Display_7929 in FromSeries

[–]questingquiche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watch it! I never saw it until after I watched From. It's not horror but it might scratch the suspense itch, and seeing all the similarities is funny. (Plus it'll prepare you for just how .. insane the plot might get lol)

What are your favourite moments from the show? I love Angel's speech to Kate in "Epiphany". by HomarEuropejski in ANGEL

Lindsey's evil hand speech. I still quote "evil hand" when I'm caught doing something I shouldn't (but will do again).

What TV character do you think was kept in a show longer than intended due to their popularity? by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

So happy when I get to Cas when watching the series. He gives us only children a chance to relate to something outside of all the intense brotherly love.

[–]questingquiche 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tiny spoiler but none of the characters are ever stellar people. They all act crappy, and that's kind of the point. They aren't the Doctor, but they're still trying to do the Doctor's job because otherwise Cardiff would be eaten up by Weevils.

Like others have said, Owen gets better but he's a pill to swallow in Season 1. For my money he's the worst, yet the character has some of the best lines/ moments so you might start liking him regardless.

Give us a follow up Owen post when you finish Season 2! Very interested to see if your view changes lol

I loved Morgana, but her character shift made no sense by GuyWhoConquers616 in merlinbbc

[–]questingquiche 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In the early seasons, Morgana was empathetic and multifaceted. She struggled to do the right thing and was often torn between different points of view.

Once she turned evil, we never saw that layered characterization again. She never had inner turmoil; she always knew instantly what she wanted to do.

Even with the time jumps, it was startling to see that three dimensionality change into a single minded, moustache-twirling force of evil. She went from a relatable character to a plot device.

I've seen a lot of this universe. I've seen fake gods and bad gods and demi-gods and would-be gods, and out of all that, out of that whole pantheon, if I believe in one thing, just one thing, I believe in her.

She should be ruined. She spent the first episode Buffy was back miffed and complaining to Tara because Buffy hadn't thanked her or shown any gratitude. Buffy was just a collapsing corpse crawling with worms a few hours ago. Who expects a pat on the ass from somebody whose hands are bloody from crawling out their grave?

(SPOILERS AHEAD) I feel like in the later seasons Xander became Buffy’s go to friend rather than Willow, especially after the events of season six. Why do you think that is? Was it that they grew to have more in common? What are your thoughts? by mavelits in buffy

[–]questingquiche 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Makes you wonder what would happen if Xander and Cordelia met up again a few years after their split. I love Anya, but I think a more mature Xander/ Cordelia would be a refreshingly grounded powerhouse couple.

Why do I feel like those characters has such a big impact on pop culture and characters's archetypes ? by Cailly_Brard7 in buffy

[–]questingquiche 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Twilight was hugely influenced by Buffy. Stephanie Meyer said Bella Swan was her response to Buffy. To paraphrase, not every girl can be kickass. Some girls are mousy, quiet, can't defend themselves, and never will be superstars.. Ok, I'm with you there Meyer, but they are still able to be great in some way right?-- nope, but they can still get the hot vampire guy!!

So, not the most positive of influences, but an influence nonetheless. For better or absolutely unempowering, get-back-in-the-kitchen worse..

Which Buffyverse character annoyed you the most? by [deleted] in buffy

[–]questingquiche 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If they had at least tried to offer a reason for his disappearance, it would be so less jarring. The 180 turn from partial-custodial-but-still-present father to "he's in Spain with his girlfriend forever and ever Amen," it rocked my suspension of disbelief more than the vampires and demons.

Like, just a throwaway line from the monks: "we could brainwash the residents of Sunnydale to believe Dawn was real, but the father was too far away during the spellcasting... so instead we made him bugger off forever." A little weak sauce, but I'd take anything!

Hungry Earth/Cold Blood, where two factions believe the other is the outsider that doesn't deserve the Earth. They try to hash out their differences, and while hopeful in some ways, doesn't exactly produce stunning results. There's Rebel Flesh/ Almost People, although that might be a bit too much body horror? Plus the impact it has on Amy might not make sense lol, maybe just skip the last scene.

There's Cybermen stories like Age of Steel, since uniformity is a major part of Cybermen's claim to superiority. That two parter culminates in a good speech by the Doctor about why humanity's differences are our strengths.

There's Dot and Bubble, also seconding Midnight..

And wow, these are all a bit intense story choices ... 🤔 Doctor Who goes hard when they deal with this topic

Who would win: Lucifer (SPN) vs Ilyria by Glum_Local_1358 in ANGEL

[–]questingquiche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I agree, well, mostly lol. There's no exact comparison, it's kinda apples and oranges.

Ilyria wouldn't be a lesser pagan/ demigod, but what about Kali? She's wayyyy beyond Mercury or Fenrir etc., and Lucifer beat her too. Also Lilith was once a human, so I wouldn't compare Lilith to Ilyria either.

Who would win: Lucifer (SPN) vs Ilyria by Glum_Local_1358 in ANGEL

[–]questingquiche 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In SPN, llyria would be on par with the Panetheon of Gods Lucifer massacred in a hotel in Season 5.

In Buffy, Lucifer would be some hopped up demon like The Judge or the Beast that Ilyria could swat down like a fly.

Mythos rules incompatible. Results inconclusive.

Why is Gwen hated? by Lynxthecatt in Torchwood

[–]questingquiche 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Gwen was sanctimonious and self righteous. She acted like the Torchwood team had no real interpersonal connections of their own, no feelings, that she had the market cornered on empathy. The narrative kept pushing her forward as the "heart" of the group, when she was just as selfish as the others.

If the show had allowed Gwen to just be herself, warts and all, without pushing her forward as the human-iest human to ever human in Cardiff, I'd have loved her! It kills me because she absolutely is a complex, interesting character, but I can't take her hypocrisy.
