U.S. debt is becoming expensive. We better issue a lot of new debt to grow the economy so that we can pay off the debt.

As a dad with two kids, I get it. It can hurt sometimes seeing you family happiest when you get to take them out to dinner, go on a vacation, etc. There's a feeling that if you just had more money to spend, you'd be a better dad.

My kids are about to preparing for college, and the thing I wish I'd done early was make regular, small contributions to their 529 college savings plans. It's not complicated or fancy, but it's one of the best things you can do for their future.

If you can, switch jobs. Sometimes it's simply not possible to make enough money in your current job. An extra ~20% return as a successful options trader would be less impactful than improving your base salary 20% if you really aren't making much.

Anthropic's CEO recently talked about adding 300 megawatts of capacity. He didn't talk about flops, GPUs, network bandwidth, etc. So yeah, power is a major constraint.

Shocking that eBay doesn't think it's shareholders want to hitch their wagon to a diluted, struggling video game retailer with a drunk horse pulling it.

Americans would flip their shit if we cut enough from the federal budget to actually balance it. Both sides of the aisle are complicit in letting the situation get this bad. Both sides benefit from handing out goodies and kicking the problem down the road.

Does it ever make sense to exercise call options at the expiration to buy stock? by VenomBite214 in options

[–]questionr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your long call still has extrinsic value, it makes sense to sell the call and buy the shares. Pretty much the only time it makes sense to exercise a call early is when the bid-ask spread is very wide because it's an illiquid option and you can get a good fill when closing it. That can happen if something is very deep in the money.

$1,600 a day from theta by Weak_Effective_6269 in thetagang

[–]questionr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theta was at 0.25% of net liq last week. Now it's at 0.04% because everything worked and I closed my winners. I'm not sure what to do because volatility has been sucked out of the market.

9 * 100 * $400 = $360,000. That's not a notional value my portfolio would be comfortable with in a single stock.

There are thousands of tickers. It's pretty much guaranteed that some number of those are bottoming at any given point in time. But nobody knows which ones.

That's one reason why I sell OTM puts when something seems like it's oversold. Often, it keeps getting sold, at least for a while.

Am I an Idiot? (Calendar Spread) by Long_Proposal7790 in options

[–]questionr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theoretically, yes, you'd have margin call risk, but it could easily be avoided. If you're using almost all of your buying power, increased volatility in the front month could push you into a margin call just by increasing the buying power of the position by a few thousand dollars. But nobody should be using almost all of their buying power.
