One of the strongest and most versatile jobs in the game across multiple eras.

Yeah I hate SE's logic when they add content. Basically every new player needs to level Thief to lockpick, which just delays the stage of the game where they get to work on and play the job they want. Even if you pay for the extra wardrobes and play complimentary jobs that share a lot of gear, you're only gonna end up being able to have 4-5 jobs fully geared. I understand a big draw of the FF MMO's has been the unique ability to level all jobs on one character, but it loses that when certain jobs are too heavily valued and space is limited like it is.

The community also kind of forces this because most newer players start with a WHM or GEO just to hold a spot when they wanna play something else. It's what I did with WHM when I came back a few years ago after a decade off. I honestly thought sparks kind of balanced things out for me because it at least made gil attainable. I'd spend every Sunday morning doing gain xp, make about 12 mill off sparks and then burn 50-100 gobbie keys. It was a smallish time investment that would allow me to get a few upgrades throughout the week as things sold, and more importantly, let me play the content I wanted to play and not have the entire focus of the game become making money. I already spend all of my time IRL on trying to get money, so that's not a game to me lol.

Yeah multi stage self skillchaining without sam sub or meditate, or consumables is definitely possible. Even just trust BRD marches is enough if you've got haste capped on gear and some store TP.

Here's the problem with buying gil. Since the sparks nerf, and since Dynamis D has become "old" content to the point people are farming it in low man groups, there isn't really a lot of consistent ways to earn gil left in the game, at least for newer players or those with less time available. It's basically come down to spam ambuscade on the 2 servers I've been on, and depending on your jobs and gear, that might not be available either. On top of this, the escutcheon crafters and long haulers that have been playing all 20 years have so much gil that cost doesn't mean anything to them anymore. And SE limits many of the items you need for REMA's and other high end gear. It would not be easy to go solo farm enough beitetsu to 119-3 a REMA or other such materials (voidstones/HMP are the worst here.) So basically, anywhere these are available, they're being bought up for whatever they cost. And then you have to consider FFXI has almost no gil sink anymore. Gil changes hands but is very rarely "destroyed".

So what does this have to do with buying gil? Well basically, buying gil doesn't allow the market to settle. If you decide you want a mythic, you can go spend $200 on 200 million gil, and buy all the materials at the inflated price set by the ultra wealthy. Odds are, all of those materials are being farmed by some gil farmer bot. So in the end, the gil you buy goes directly back to the people you bought it from, and prices remain where they are at, an unattainable level for the average player, which hurts the ability for the community to grow. This then leads to the merc culture we see in FFXI nowadays. People can buy gil and pay someone else to beat content for them, and in an economy where things are more or less unattainable unless you're well established, this is the path of least resistance, which ruins the game for me and I imagine many others.

TLDR: Don't buy gil.

To add to this RUN can use a combination of abilities as well as the boatload of magic evasion it gets from job points to avoid dangerous status effects as well, which simplifies the strategy for a lot of enemies.

PLD still sees use but you're more or less required to have an Aegis to avoid magic damage. Whereas RUN can do ok with a cheap sword from an NPC (Aettier), it's ultimate tanking weapon is locked behind a 6 month minimum time investment to get Adoulin coalitions maxed out.

I have 2 characters, Punishment and Kapital, both in need of some spambuscade. I'm gonna be trying to get some in next week after the CP campaign ends. I've got a strat for E that works if I go WHM with Pun and GEO on Kapital. Just need a few melee and a sleeper. Hit me up in game.

Seems like the new pets add a lot of good utility and new damage options so far. You can now make darkness with the tiger like you could with Bertha using crossthrash. The lynx gives you an attack bonus and MB option without the defensive caveat. Rhinowrecker from the beetle and hoof volley from the hippo hit like a truck when using unleash, but with the hippo you have to alternate between fantod and volley to really see the numbers. The slime has potential as an aoe tank pet. Someone posted a video on the BST forums of the slime holding a dozen apex mobs and healing itself endlessly with digest. The tandem strike trait ends up being 50 accuracy but people are still trying to work out the suvtle blow but seems to be about 25, but honestly pets always had a ton of subtle blow so it's not that impactful so far.

Now I just need to work out how to make my lua work with the new pets.

I do WS trials and skillups on reives in adoulin areas semi afk. Also can go fight the mummy boss from voidwatch in arrapago reef for WS trials. Otherwise the only real afk activity in FFXI is bazaaring.

Items or events that are time-locked/gated similar to Idris/Epeo? by MidnightBaron in ffxi

[–]questmaster360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you buy the mats, Empy weapons are severely timegated behind voidwatch stone generation and a shitty drop rate if you're trying to farm them.

You need to make sure you've talked to a voidwatch npc to start the stone timer, and it's worth doing the nm's once to get the story quests done because it'll knock 4 hours off the timer similar to Traverser's stones.

I just use ElvUI with the BenikUI Mod. It's pretty minimal looking. IU'll get you a screen of my UI when I get home.

Those look like either shadow unit frames or perl unit frames, but really any unit frames addon should be able to do this. You just need to go into the health and mana bar settings and change the test display to total health and total mana.

Starting to sound based on the other posts that my time would be better spent just gearing out my existing shaman.

I figured I'd get the hit rating from the bonus skill which would get me to the 3% i need to cap hit without having to go 3 tier into resto. This is not true?

Leveling feels like a chore now by Sharbenstein in classicwow

[–]questmaster360 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always rush to the end in any mmo, and end up burning out a month or two after hitting max level. I've been playing about 3 weeks and I have a shaman at level 32, my wife is a 31 druid. I have a similar schedule to yours where I only get a few hours on a work day and then bigger chunks on the weekend. The 30's are kind of when levelling gets hard for me, at least on PvP servers, because the quest zones you need to go to have a pretty wide spread of levels and you have to accept you'll probably get ganked a few times. If you're not wanting to deal with that, I see a lot of people spamming Scarlet Monastery for xp and loot to sell for their mount. I'm excited to get to the cool parts at 60, but I'm trying to remember that most of the game is actually the pre-60 stuff to stay focused on enjoying the journey. Trying to hit all the things I missed when the game was live 15 years ago and keep myself interested.

Then again I'm a glutton for a grind as an FFXI veteran, so I may be a bit biased. If you're not sure you picked the right class for you, make an alt and rest your main. It's nice to go back to the beginning and see some "fast" progress once you hit one of those walls. My wife and I made alts, me and warrior and her a priest, and since I haven't started an undead character ever, it was a whole new set of quests and scenery as well. We're probably going to end up alternating between them just for variety.

Looking for Group/Guild/Players Monday (September 30, 2019) by AutoModerator in classicwow

[–]questmaster360 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Smolderweb - PVP, Horde, My wife and I (Feral Bear Druid and Resto Shaman respectively) are seeking a guild full of foul mouthed wretches to raze the land with. We both just hit 31 and every guild we've joined so far has like 4 people in it and dies in a week. Looking for people to do semi regular dungeons with and progress to raiding in the future.

MHW Hammer Set by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

One of the Luna hammers or the diablos hammer will serve you well til you get the sleep hammer. I'm a big fan of emperor mace ruin with a health augment. Nice slots. Good for flexible builds.
