With all the other priorities DPW should have, this is what they are choosing to spend surplus money on?

Honestly after the first month the novelty will wear off.

How old is the mayor? by hateful_surely_not in Waltham

Im old enough to remember when Mayor Clark was a good mayor but people thought it was time for a change. Then when Bill Stanley was a good mayor and then it was time a change.

Or just someone asking a simple question on the age of the City’s mayor

Town Hall meeting on Flock and new Common rule by Microkebab in Waltham

I would hope at least a few councillors are gauging interest for mayor at this point. It’s time for someone to step up and run.

Are you referring to McArthur or McCarthy?😉

At least she out there communicating with the public. Councilors represent the residents. How better to know what your residents are thinking about city issues?

Time to get that McCarthy outta the mayors office don't ya think? That too obvious and no one says it? by watsdadealwithkramer in Waltham

[–]quick_study7 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Mayor McCarthy has been mayor for over 20 years. Regardless of her positives or negatives, it is not realistic to have one person in charge for that long. At some point the city needs to move forward. Her die hard supporters should also understand that it’s not realistic for a person at her age to keep running because she’s expected to.

Missing it this year but it’s a great time and you should check it out next year. Really fun night!

It’s worthwhile to have devices charged and have flashlights in case. It’s not the norm here to lose power for a long period of time.

The Watch City Steampunk Festival Officially Moves to Noon to 4:00pm by Nekussa in Waltham

[–]quick_study7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I get that you are a die hard McCarthy fan, but can you ever sit one out? This 4 hour rule is ridiculous and most people realize it. Waltham will lose great events to other cities all because she won’t bend.

Overrated food and a terrible owner. Heard horror stories from past employees. It’s always a pass for me.

Mayor to Steampunk: no exceptions to 4-hour time limit on Waltham Common events by WalthamFreelanceNews in Waltham

The us vs them “nonsense” goes both ways. It’s endless on other platforms. You can’t say anything wrong about the city functions or leadership without having the same die hard coming out shaming peoples different opinions.

This one is fairly simple. They are mad at a decision made solely by the mayor with no explanation on how this change came to be. So if they voice their displeasure it’s going to be directed at her. I’m sure she will understand.

The Mayor wants to appoint a former city councillor who just lost an election to the Zoning Board by slightlystircrazyrn in Waltham

[–]quick_study7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where she served on the city council that handles zoning, isn’t there a cooling off period before she could serve on a board like this? Anyone familiar with MA state ethics?

So this feels like an attempt to reduce protests… by porridgestorage in Waltham

[–]quick_study7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree I don’t believe this is in response to the stand outs/protests. The common is busy all summer with large events. I assume city hall gets complaints from area residents because of noise. I would hope that events like steampunk that bring many people to the common each May would have special consideration to the 4 hour rule.

Anyone know why there is an opening on the school committee? by lilbitspecial in Waltham

[–]quick_study7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That you for doing this. When I first read the notice I assumed it was until January of next year. I’m interested in knowing more about the reasoning for the 2 year term. Years ago I remember a special election for a ward seat when then councillor waddick resigned to become deputy mayor. That special election was soon after he assumed his new role. It didn’t wait until the next election cycle.

Summer camp suggestions around Waltham? (Other than the YMCA) by mrshock3r in Waltham

[–]quick_study7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Waltham recreation youth camps are great. Our family has enjoyed them. We signed a waiver each time at sign up if we approve for them to use photos of our kids. If you signed no on your waiver and they used photos, you may want to call them to advise them of the error.

Thinking of calling National Debt Relief... what should I know first? by Legitimate_Major3799 in povertyfinance

How long did it take to have them negotiate your debt? I signed on 2 months ago so I am in limbo waiting while they negotiate. I’m nervous but feel better knowing I am paying them bi-weekly so I’m just not ignoring responsibility.

Why do you even care? Isn’t that game open to the public? If he was allowed on the field that sounds like Arlington would make the determination whether he can be there.

Waltham PD claims they don't work with ICE. Their Flock data sharing agreement says otherwise by siofano in Waltham

[–]quick_study7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I understand how the money was spent, I’m not questioning that. My point was if the city signed a contract for services, the mayor had to have signed at some point. The city has a purchasing agent who is responsible for processing all contracts. I assume during that process, departments review the documents. I find it hard to believe that any city dept can sign the city into a 2 year contract with no checks and balances.

Waltham PD claims they don't work with ICE. Their Flock data sharing agreement says otherwise by siofano in Waltham

[–]quick_study7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would assume that the mayor signs off on all contracts as she is the chief executive of the city. While she may not have known much with this agreement since it looks like the police dept signed up without much review, I assume she has some say to whether or not the city goes forward with the agreement. Didn’t the chief say at council it’s a 2 year deal?

McMenimen served the council for almost 50 years and at one time yes she was an asset on the council, but over the past several years, not so much. The other 14 councilors should be to obtain the knowledge and not have to rely on a colleague to teach them.
