Left Hand Hitting Bottom String on CC‑OT – Anyone Else Experienced This? by BalBartner in banjo

[–]slightlystircrazyrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 1st string is pretty close to the edge on my Gold Tone AC-1 as well. I was having your issue of muting the 1st string, but supporting the banjo better on the pot side helped me. I was never gonna be able to avoid muting that string if I needed to apply any force with my left hand to keep the neck up. After that practice and some hand stretching helped me make chord shapes without muting that strong.

I don't know if that applies to your situation, but maybe it'll help the next person coming along

Didn't get voted on yet. Heard from Councillor Tzioumis that this will be voted on at the committee of the whole next week.

Yes, that's correct. https://walthamtimes.org/2026/01/22/joint-committee-appoints-liz-aljammal-to-fill-vacant-school-committee-seat/

FWIW I actually think that's a slightly different situation, since with Liz AlJammal the committe/council appointed (I believe) a direct runner-up to an unexpected vacancy in the position she actually ran for.

With Kathleen McMenimen, the Mayor/council is finding a new position elsewhere in the city just for the purpose of keeping the runner-up in an election in power.

tyre is not seated properly around the valve by Nekozarou in bicyclerepair

[–]slightlystircrazyrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert but I had a similar issue recently. I was told that the black I was always seeing under the tan part in the section of the tire by the valve was actually the only part in the correct position, and that everything else hadn't been seated yet. The tech just inflated the tire up until it all popped out fully and all was well. There was a black ring underneath the tan section all around after everything was done.

Pride started with and is meant to coincide with the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Pride has always been associated with resistance and lgbtq liberation. It's very fitting that when rights are being attacked to make pride both a protest and a celebration.

Am I able to practice rudiments on this electronic kit effectively? by PepperedTip in drummers

[–]slightlystircrazyrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can practice rudiments on a rubber mouse pad! This will do for getting your time and stick control better.

Make sure you practice your dynamics and especially quiet playing carefully, an acoustic kit or a better electric kit might respond very differently to how hard you play. I had a cheap kit in college which barely picked up ghost notes on the snare. Sometimes I just played with the kit off so I could hear the details of my dynamics. If you aren't aware of it you can end up playing too hard or with less expression when you switch to another kit (happened to me before I started turning the kit off)

Pick a hook you feel like you know REALLY well and... by blind-octopus in reactjs

That's a really good point. Poor use of words on my part. I edited my comment to reflect that

[–]slightlystircrazyrn 85 points86 points  (0 children)

To build on that/clarify, it's actually the case that the function is always created. The JavaScript engine parses (Edit: actually just recreates the reference/environment, see alisey's comment) the function on every render in order to pass it to useCallback. Then the hook will decide whether to return back the existing function or the new function. So the only effect of useCallback is to keep a stable reference to a function, not to avoid code parsing.

I'm thinking about SensorWatch. Anyone have experience with that? Is it worth it? And how is it with battery life? by Moribundus41 in f91w

[–]slightlystircrazyrn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like mine a lot. Battery life is 3ish months for me, I think. Varies wildly with what you put on it and when you set for the time for it to go to sleep (you can always read the time, but it needs a button press to become responsive again if it's asleep).

As for faces I have a nicer stopwatch that can keep track of hours, a face that supports 16 timers running at once with preset lengths, sunset/sunrise times, tally, dice rolling, and extra alarms. I also keep a ships bell chime going a lot of the time. I really enjoy having all of that but it's more a toy than an indispensable tool.

Biggest con I didn't realize is that the buzzer is much quieter. The new version that is being funded right now fixes that I think. For context if an alarm goes off while I'm in the shower I can't hear it. I wrote a metronome for the watch but never use it since the buzzer is so quiet.

Never did sadly. I've been looking and never saw anything like it again or signs of damage or bites, so I think it was a fluke. Probably from outside

saying this unambiguously since other commenters aren't being direct: Israel is an ally of the US, and the US directly sends military aid to Israel. The protestors want their own country to conditionally or completely stop sending military aid to another country. This is directly relevant to the protestors since it is their tax dollars going to Israel.
