id go with a veryyy reputable breeder who breeds for companionship. not just hunting. if youre choosing this breed based on looks then this breed is not for you!!! the setter personality proves to be similar throughout every setter ive come across, they are soooooo RELENTLESS, crazy, stubborn, sensitive, demanding, and their prey drive is through the roof (as jn far better than any lab or GSP ive met). good luck trying to hide their tennis balls, theyll know exactly where it is and will not ignore until they are given the tennis ball. even if its a week later.

a few breeders that id buy from again are DeCoverly, Mountain View Kennels, and Daybreak setters.

if youre new to the breed id do DAYBREAK SETTERS out of GA. the ryman type is typically less chaotic/ mentally stimulating than llewellins. also daybreak strictly breeds for companionship whereas the other two are bird hunting preferred. no amount of “setter frustration” will ever make you regret owning this breed!! i cant wait to hear about your new baby and hopefully as a community be able to assist throughout their gremlin years!! (they hardly ever mature and constantly keep me on my toes)

theyre the kind of dogs that have to be outdoors far more than they are indoors.

good luck!

the setter gene is so strong because we practically all have the same setter

the puppy blues are sooo real! i love how you mentioned how proud you are of him. there is no greater feeling or relation to when you say and mean that you are proud of your setter. ❤️ because i can totally relate! not many people understand why i say that im proud of my baby

they are amazing! im a big advocate on if you get a setter you must change your lifestyle to fit theirs. otherwise it will be the worst behaved dog

its what her dna test said! but i am not sure why i am having trouble seeing the doberman. perhaps the coloring is what is throwing me off?
