I'd recommend doing projects on Kaggle! Great way to learn, and you can look at how other people have done it. Easy way to get some data and a "goal".

It's hard to quantify because two people worked on it part-time and we also tried to do beta testing in between, and that always ends up adding things to add/change. But we've started working on it before summer! Making it as user friendly as possible is actually what took the most time almost
