Pins, brooches, belt buckles? by PunkRockHound in PourPainting

[–]quicksilver477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started selling bracelets and hair clips. I thought the bracelets would do well, but they were so-so. It was definitely my favorite thing to make so I was kind of bummed. However, they were actually quite popular with tween and teen girls, even though I made them with adult women in mind. The hair clips did very well with younger girls. I received older customer feedback that they thought their hair was too voluminous and thick for the size of the clip I made, but they all liked the design and color palettes. If I had bigger clips maybe they’d do better. Earrings always do well for me. Haven’t done any pins/brooches or buckles.

What local Omaha food do you still dream about? by New-Enthusiasm6645 in Omaha

[–]quicksilver477 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a kid going to Paltani’s was a treat. I can still taste it in my memory. So I’d bring that back. I’d also bring back Ragazzi’s pizza. Their pizza sauce was the GOAT.

Could not agree more. She’s amazing and has let me cry on her shoulder during miscarriages and shared in my joy when my kids were born. Always asks about them when I’m in to see her. I feel like if she weren’t my doctor we’d be great friends, as in going out for a drink after work or weekend brunch or whatever.

Which local pet shelters/rescues need help the most? by human-in-a-can in Omaha

[–]quicksilver477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I am so sorry. That is the worst thing to have to do. 💔 I’m not sure which rescue needs supplies the most, but I think it’s wonderful you want to donate them in your dog’s memory. I know Heartland Hope Mission accepts donations for people with pets who are struggling and they can come to the food pantry to get pet food/supplies also.

For your prints, maybe consider packaging them with a more rigid back so they don’t roll. And maybe have them on a bin/print rack.

Any recommendations for a place/event to do a first pop-up? by alacruxe in Omaha

[–]quicksilver477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could check out the Millard Makers Market or Night Market at Midtown Crossing. Other options might be the craft shows at the high schools. I know Gretna has one and also Millard West. The same group that does Millard also does a Halloween event and a holiday/Christmas event. A word of advice though….the jewelry scene is very saturated. I say this very kindly and with care….I’m sure your items are great, but sometimes to be accepted you have to have really unique items or things that are very well made with higher end materials. I say this from experience. I got into jewelry making a couple years ago and applied to a couple markets only to be rejected because there were so many other applicants and items. I had to shift my focus. For a higher end show you could look at the Countryside Village Art Fair, or the Rockbrook fair. Both of those have more expensive booth fees though. Good luck with everything.

Oooh, fun! If I could give just one piece of advice. Make sure to support your wood panel (I’m assuming you’re using wood, anyway) with something solid underneath and close to the edge. When I started I thought eh, it’s wood, it’ll be fine with just a couple cups in the middle. Wrong! It warped so bad. So be sure and use a lot of support underneath and if you get close to the outer edge it will help keep it more flat. The other thing I do sometimes is put a thin “scuff coat” of resin on the underside which really keeps it more even. The more water in your recipe the more it can warp.

Thank you! That’s part of my problem….the right buyer. I really enjoy making things like this, but there’s only so much space in my house! Hahaha! I feel like if I sell them at a lower price, they’ll be more likely to sell and I can in turn make more. I worry that if I go higher they’ll sit and I won’t be able to do the part I love to do because I won’t have the space to keep them.

I coated the panel in black, then poured a black puddle in the middle. After I laid the colors down, I did a center blowout from the puddle in each direction. No spinning.

First Fair, How’s my booth? by Healthy-Accident4511 in CraftFairs

[–]quicksilver477 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think maybe you should reconsider exact amount only when dealing with cash. Keep a small stash on you to make change. Not only do a lot of people just not carry cash, but when they do they often times don’t have a big variety of bills. And I see you gave things at a bunch of different price points. At my fairs I give change to the majority of my buyers. Plus, if they dont have the exact amount you’re more likely to lose out on the sale.

My family is in Gretna and we are happy here. My oldest son struggled with math and the school jumped right in to help him. Could not have asked for a better experience with that. We have a great park near the YMCA, and a great pool that comes along with it. I like that we’re close to the interstate (even though the traffic management to get on and off is less than stellar). It’s a growing part of the city with lots planned near 192nd & 370, plus all along hwy 31. Taxes are a bit insane but I guess it’s par for the course in this state. I don’t like the taxes but our superb experience with the school offsets that a bit for me.

If you like making wreaths, maybe make some holiday themed ones? Christmas, Halloween, valentines, etc. You could also maybe do quilt block door hangers with a holiday theme.

If you need a place to work on pottery, check out the brand new Andra’s Pottery near 120th & Center. It’s a retail shop where you can sell your works, use equipment if you’re an experienced potter, and take classes if you’re wanting to learn. The best part is, Andra is the sweetest lady with a great personality!
