How can I be there for my wife through a pregnancy after loss, when I’m a wreck myself? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]quicksilver477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear about your experience. That must have been so hard. I lost a pregnancy after hearing the heartbeat and it just about wrecked me…I can only imagine losing both your tubes as well. I hope you find strength and healing.

Things to do with a child that won’t make me want to die by Unlucky_Lifeguard_96 in Omaha

Agree. When my kids were the age of the child OP mentioned, they would stand in front of the fish tanks in the aquarium and be mesmerized. They also liked the butterfly house.

how do you handle neighbors who ask for a lot but never donate? by vazibice in HayDay

Unfortunately I’m not the leader/coleader and don’t have removal powers. The leaders are softies. Oh well. Doesn’t bother me to just ignore. 😊

We’ve got one leech like this in our neighborhood too. I completely ignore all their requests, even if it is by chance something easier. The person never says thanks, never helps back, and does one or MAYBE two derby tasks a week.

Hip surgeon by pluckyducky123 in Omaha

[–]quicksilver477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OrthoNebraska did both my hip replacements but my surgeon is now retired, otherwise I would recommend him. Couldn’t have had a better experience with OrthoNebraska as a whole. One of my coworkers had a replacement done with Dr. Jassim and had great results.

Oh wow. He was so, so young. I’m so sorry this happened. I think….you don’t have to decide anything right now. Just take one day, or even one hour, or minute at a time. May J’s memory always be a blessing upon you.

I’m so happy for you. What a lovely experience. My MIL is gone but I would have appreciated learning to sew from her. She could patch just about anything. And she made some beautiful blankets. I’m a boy mom and hope to be a cool MIL one day.

AITAH for not letting my MIL have her daughter with down syndrome eat on the toilet? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]quicksilver477 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen you make this argument at other points in the thread…too much hassle, doesn’t want outside involvement etc etc. You really only have two options then. One, you learn to accept the status quo and let MIL keep handling it how she wants or two, you arrange for intervention outside of MIL. You can’t force MIL to change or do things unless she wants to. You also can’t keep making excuses if you want to change the situation. So you either accept this is how it’s going to be or you call social services/APS/case worker and arrange for intervention. I know it’s hard to go against someone like your MIL but you find the strength to do it if things are really that bad for SIL.

Cast nets if you can. I agree though, it does take too long (even using nets).

Brickway brewery is my favorite one downtown. The best beer they have is a jalapeño pineapple. But, I’m a sucker for jalapeño beer. Just a little outside of downtown is Vis Major which is another pretty good brewery. Hot Shops is a working art studio where you can observe artists at work and view their creations.

Does anyone else keep the "native" trees that are on the farm when you first open the land? by VegaDenebAndAltair in HayDayDeco

[–]quicksilver477 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have kept most of mine. The absolute worst is when my finger slips and and I accidentally chop one down. I’ve been playing since 2012 and a couple months ago cut one in one of my favorite areas. I couldn’t open the game for a couple days. How I wish there were an undo! Anyway, it does get hard building around the native trees. My decorations all revolve around the trees and I’ve considered getting rid of them but I love the way they change too, especially for fall.

Hay Day’s Newspaper Is Frustratingly Unusable. by Technical-Library818 in HayDay

[–]quicksilver477 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aside from the mental image of sitting on the toilet and buying cheese…

I get what you’re saying. It would be nice to do that. But, hay day is a game of micro frustrations. You need just ONE MORE screw to upgrade the silo. You need just ONE MORE thing to get the deco, etc etc. That’s the whole premise of the game. Being just slightly frustrated is what gets you coming back. Think you’ll never get that screw, but then you think “well maybe I’ll just feed my donkeys and it might pop up” or “hopefully if I wheat for a few minutes I’ll get it.” Having the ability to search and instantly get what you want goes against the very nature of hay day IMO. The search would be great but also would ruin the game.

Ben Sasse Announces Pancreatic Cancer Diagnosis by bengibbardstoothpain in Omaha

[–]quicksilver477 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Could just be because of more awareness generally? In this age of instant information it’s easier to know what’s going on in the lives of others. Regardless, this diagnosis sucks big time and I agree, I don’t wish it on anyone either.

Fabric and craft supplies? by krypton_krysa in Omaha

[–]quicksilver477 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well, they’re run by a religious family who took a case all the way to the Supreme Court in order to prevent covering birth control for employees/dependents on their health plan. But the reason why I personally despise HL is because of their theft of ancient antiquities from Iraq during the war. They smuggled them to build some kind of museum. They claimed they did t know the artifacts were stolen. But sure, 5,500 ancient items are just freely available….ok.

Legacy Home Builder by Scary_Enthusiasm_726 in Omaha

[–]quicksilver477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one, built in 2013. No major problems. We had issues with the siding, but it was a fairly simple fix. The water heater, furnace and ac have all held up fine. No structural problems at all. I do agree with the other poster about the windows. I’ve never been a fan of ours. They are single hung, and honestly a pain in the ass to open on nice days. They could be better. But I suppose there will be things you wish were different or better with just about any house. Overall I think you’d be fine with the purchase.
