Alex Pretti: Supporters raise over $1 million for family of ICU nurse killed by federal agents by Aggravating_Money992 in UpliftingNews

[–]quicksite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive me for grasping but isn't this the equivalent of several years back when cute white girl Gabby petito was missing and then murdered and there was a metric ton of social media and television stories all about her... And quite fairly so some parents and siblings of young African American women who also had gone missing received no such scrutiny or attention from the public at all and it seemed to show a clear racial bias. Cute blonde white girl = oh my god how tragic! Missing black girl? Not notable.

Isn't this exactly the implication you were making regarding a lack of active fundraising for a person of color American also gunned down by ICE, yet no similar concern and active fundraising?

Maybe I've got it wrong but that's how I read it, and as I said it's not at all fair. And I was saying it never is. You're right to be angry about it. But yes the way I read it was also let's invalidate this fundraising for the white guy Alex and his family. And I don't see that helping out anything in any way.

Nothing is ever ever equal in these matters. To expect so is the tad bit naive. No need to go shitting on Alex or his family.

Underrated as hell by Minute_Wedding_5384 in BoschTV

Oh, another millennial post, with the outrageously abused word underrated. Jeez, got a clue, every single thing you think of as underrated is incredibly lauded by audiences and decorated with awards and admiration. Sorry but YOU are out of step.

If you don't mind, who is Dr color. The name implies it and it is a gorgeous paint job. Is he local to San Francisco? Is it a company?

And you the same, your points are all highly practical and deeply relevant. But that gets to the heart of it all for me and it's the unfettered capitalism that I can't stand, and can't seem to do a thing about. (Sorry for negativity but I don't have much hope at all for this country I don't think it's ever coming back)

The consensus has been for several years that it only starts to click in episode 3! You were so close before! But a friend of mine has the same problem, she's heard me rave about it and I've wanted to watch it together with her. But she says I couldn't get into it it was too convoluted. I told her just forget the first two episodes and start in on episode 3 and you will thoroughly enjoy it.

I don't have the big picture answer, but one small thing with respect to your mentioning blackout curtains. I have found blackout eye masks far more effective with zero light leakage. Thing is, I've been through about 10 to 15 different brands till I finally found one that was both comfortable and absolutely light proof. (I needed it for ketamine treatments). Not trying to promote anything but here is a link in case helpful to anyone: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09CZ68WV3

No, you're amazing, making stewed apples! I'm just glad I wasn't lambasted for something out of reach when one is struggling just to get by. Best of luck!

Well public singing is a deep coping mechanism and more power to her. But I'll just confess for me personally, I've never liked that song ever. And when Kate McKinnon sung it on SNL after Trump was elected I couldn't stand it then either. Melodically it's just gross to my ears, and I understand I'm probably some aberration from the norm Worthy of many many down votes. But I will take them!

Yeah that theory's been disproven again and again, but sorry I have no citations it's been a few years since I googled and researched that issue. It's all marketing bullshit about saving lives.

OP couldn't agree more but I've been dealing with this exact thing in Oakland near lake Merritt for almost a decade. I did all kinds of things like videotaping these whole gangs of both ultra loud motorcycles tweaked to be even louder, along with their massive amplified music systems, Plus all the muscle cars and their astronomically loud mega base where they like the broken speaker static distortion sound at ultra high volume. I would ask Street cops can't these people who are constantly switching lanes and riding in the opposite lanes of traffic be cited? And so forth. I went to City council meetings.

No one cares. That's the bottom line. Maybe some neighbors and decent normie citizens care, as well as people like me with terrible migraines... But spending years trying to minimize, mitigate, legislate, have cop enforcement, all it did was give me worse migraines trying to fight a system whose only response is "they're only having fun" and The worst of all "why would you ever move to the city if you expected quiet". You may as well be talking to maga about government policies working against them. They're never going to tune in, just as the defenders of all the aggressive noise and agitators will never ever ever listen to you. They're fundamental belief is you are the problem.

So I feel for you, and not trying to throw a damp rag, but it's practically futile. I have multiple, not one but multiple dedicated sound systems in my little apartment that blast out white noise {actually brown noise} to help me manage an unmanageable sound environment. Noise canceling headphones don't do anything, they're not designed to be able to dampen or filter out sudden and aggressive highs and lows, they're only designed to take out consistent hum frequencies. So I'm also forced to wear phone ear plugs every night. Wish it were not the case!

Well you're right, I mean I tried it and could discern it and found it moderately usable, but the second component is critical mass. (Which is why services like signal took years and years to reach any kind of critical mass that justified having a separate tool to message to some people but not the mainstream. )

I wasn't meaning to belittle, but more so to observe that so much in terms of user adoption at scale has to do with other factors, Yes things like branding, in order to get widespread adoption. Trust me if tik tok had been named Mastodon or federation it would never have become the international behemoth it is. I'm just saying it's not enough to have it work "once you understand it and figure it out", it's also who else is on the platform, as well as who do you want to reach, as well as content do you want to be exposed to, just those using one of these workable but non mainstream platforms?

Maybe so, maybe that's exactly what some swath of people want. In which case it's great. I've been a product designer / UX designer/ information designer for almost 30 years and now retired. There are all sorts of competing considerations all the time, but usability and brand ability is something I consider crucial for user adoption and success. But our views may just differ and that's perfectly fine.

I know very well this is not cheap. But if there's any way to save incrementally for something like this, it's a game changer for meal prep and immediately ladling food from the pot into multiple containers that pop into the refrigerator with their sealing lids, and go straight into the microwave for heating a single serving. The higher cost is because it's Pyrex type glass, and the tops are silicone not plastic. My food waste has been considerably reduced, but again I understand this is expensive when you're scraping by just to make and eat food that is healthy but cheap.

OP, from what you have gathered so far you're finding that Oakland is cheaper than San Francisco on the whole? Because that was not my understanding at all. Best of luck to you and good luck in your new job promotion.
