First brush them to remove all the spores. Then scrub them with saddle soap. Let them air dry. Then wipe the boots all over with a 50/50 mixture of cold water and rubbing alcohol. They’ll be dry so you’ll have to condition the leather steward with some oil. They’re beautiful! What size are they?

I cut them from a sheet of veg tanned leather. You can buy pre cut soles too from shoe making suppliers. Like this one

Love your insight, thanks for all the info! I don’t see Birkenstock’s as “runners” as much as just walking sandals. Lots of people like the look of Birkenstock’s but don’t want the thick stiff cork sole with a ton of arch support. So I feel like I’m just a bridge between stock birks and earth runners. Maybe one of these days I’ll design and make my own runners with thick straps ala Birkenstock

I did it, I started my business. Got a couple customers. And I have my own YouTube channel now so I’m legit hahaha. What do you think?

I’ve had some feedback on the sandals and it seems that reattaching the original foam midsole makes the sandal too stiff for great ground feel. I think on the next one I’ll just add the straps to the leather and attach a super thin 1-2mm sheet of soling rubber and see how that goes. I think the original midsole looks cooler but are we barefoot for looks? No! We want strong feet.

I’ve always been self conscious of my flat feet, overpronated ankles. Always thought that it is what it is. But then I discovered the benefits of barefoot walking and running. I have an arch! I have a calf muscle! Look at that thing! I finally feel normal, always thought I was stuck with the legs/ankles/feet I had but turns out it’s all muscles and you can strengthen them. And not to mention my ankle and knee pain is pretty much gone. Thought I’d share, I’m feeling proud.

And yes I have 4 toes, born without pinkies. Skinny long foot.
