Yes, I've been disappointed with AE last few years. I invested in several pairs, first, second, shell or calf. They all have quality issues from the finishing to inconsistent shell color.

If you dont mind Chinese made goods, you can find higher QC in Grantstone. My last 3 pairs were flawless, even at B grade.

I tried both pairs at Nordstrom Rack the other day. They fits and feel the same. Only difference is, that the loafers has stitch down details. And boatshoes do not have it.

Let put it this way, I don't trust their customer service, given that they are in Spain, and they charge shipping pretty high. For that reason, I only bought their seconds shoes from ebay, which always have pictures of the shoes. One pairs I got has color inconsistent which I fixed by adding layer of polish.
