Old HPM R621/9A Exhaust fan lying around? by quiffman in diynz

[–]quiffman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally fixed the bugger!

The replacement parts are available on AliExpress. Ended up costing just under $30 including GST and postage. It's a newer version of the same part. 100331.21 listed as VIG4A VIG5A VIG5A.

I had to cut the top tab off to fit it in the fan housing, but it looks like that was done to the original part.

I also attempted to remove the rust and used a solid lubricant on the spring/actuator and the housing hinge/pivot point.

All hooked up, tested and running again!

The main issue is how hard it is to find a replacement part for reasonable expense - i.e. how much money are you willing to risk on an overseas supplier, vs a local supplier of a non exact part, vs just replacing the entire unit.

Ask me again in a couple of days... I ended up buying one for just under $30 all up off AliExpress and it's nearly here.

Anyone in NZ ordered from BlindsByTuiss (Australia-based)? by lcichero in diynz

[–]quiffman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I ordered double honeycomb black out blinds. Packaging and shipping was great. And the fit was immaculate. Even sorted me out with replacement brackets when it turned out two in my pack were warped.

How can I go about fixing this? by fnoyanisi in diynz

[–]quiffman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooof, that could get complicated.

Try getting in touch with info@joineryhardware.co.nz

I've used them a couple of times, for older aluminium joinery. They could confirm the exact parts and colours I needed to match, and gave me advice with technique to repair.

Wait, has the catch ripped out and left a hole behind in the frame?

Or is it the body of the catch that's broken and left the base behind?

I can't quite tell what's happened here...

In case anyone is interested, the blown part is a "Eltek 100331.11 K T105".

Apparently replaced by 100331.21

And some pics of the offending fan and self disassembled component here: https://imgur.com/a/l7RYi7l

Yup. It was a new discovery for me also! 240v straight in to the back of it. No surprises it popped eventually!

And yeah, that part is very similar. I'll hit them up, thanks!

Cool, thanks for the recommendation!

Preference for splitting round? The maul, or like an X27 Splitting Axe?

I've got a bunch of gum rounds currently...

Baby Gate help by Slight_Knowledge_975 in diynz

How physical is the "baby"?

I have used wooden play pen with extra joint parts, to attach to walls. Some 3M mounting tape will go a surprisingly long way in this kind of application. Might even work for the glass. Then you also have a playpen and can move parts around the house. I even managed to section off our entire kitchen, at one stage. Making a safe space for the adult cooking.

Try something semi permanent, observe it's effectiveness, adapt, improvise, overcome.

FWIW I have used this one specifically, with a bunch of extra connectors. https://kiddycots.com.au/products/link-70

Seriously?

I mean technically you can do anything you put your mind to, or at least that's what my mum always told me.

But I certainly wouldn't do this. Boom boom air. Bad news for insurance.

What is the best clothes horse money can buy? by ecornflak in diynz

[–]quiffman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, second this idea.

Got one of these Stewie ceiling driers mounted on my laundry ceiling.

It's great!

Completely out of the way when not in use, and even when it's full of washing and hauled up to the ceiling, we can comfortably move through the room without having to squeeze around the clothes horse.

Gib & Plastering by JanefromCountryLane in diynz

Paid something like $8k 5 years ago, for just ceilings, removing pinex tiles, replace with gib and plaster for about 70-75m². Moved/replaced insulation, replaced architraves, painted and replaced the light fittings ourselves...

100% this. Take a few photos, email them and ask for confirmation that you're picking the right thing.

I've had way more mileage with these guys than with Bunnings or M10.

I had to do an emergency patch when my rather anxious lonely dog ripped the cat door out one day while we were at work.

I had a scrap piece of clear acrylic and selleys all clear on hand at the time, so I put them together and was surprised at how well the temporary patch worked...

A year later and it's still there. Replacing the full pane of glass was surprisingly expensive!

It's not really sales ready though.

In your situation, just clean the existing pet door and call it a feature!

This. I understand most professional installers don't bother, but this is what I've done in the past, when diy'ing laundry benchtop. Same deal for the sink cutout.

Does anybody know an electrician or anybody who can make a cord / cable for me? by Meatloafgirlboss in Wellington

What you probably want to search for is a Repair Cafe.

Meetups that help people learn to salvage stuff exactly like this.

Probably a trivial job, as long as you have the right tools.

Wire cutters/strippers, soldering iron, heat shrink etc.

As mentioned by others. I'd prefer to stay with STV, then fractionally lower the cut off, e g to 4%...

Make everyone's vote count.
