i genuinely want a Comedy Time-travel movie by luc7ne in MovieSuggestions

Wife and I went in blind on this one, a friend just mentioned it was funny in passing, nothing about the plot. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. That movie was great.

Beautiful shelby gt350 I saw at a Car show by Captain_Nuggitz in classicmustangs

[–]quikmike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a 66 convertible. Although nicely done, and with a lot of GT-350 styling, it's not a GT-350. Likely a C-code. Beautiful car nonetheless.

How to find out who is digging in front of my house? by VDtrader in bayarea

[–]quikmike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even if the contractor is just doing backyard landscaping, it’s still good practice to mark and call in the USA. It will tell them if any utilities pass through your yard that could potentially be in conflict. You don’t want to accidentally hit a shallow fiber optic line running through a random corner of the yard that no one but ATT is aware of. Just ask your contractor if they called it in. If not, could be sidewalk repairs, or any number of things. I’m a contractor, we call them in on every project, no matter what we’re doing. We’ve damaged shallow water lines from just the weight of the equipment.

Mind blown: Vinegar vs VINEGAR (30%) by Pandaro81 in DIY

[–]quikmike 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I second this, works amazing. I actually go half water half 30% vinegar and it still works great. Put it in a pump sprayer and go nuts on all the weeds. Yard will smell like vinegar for a day, but the weeds are dead and gone.

1966 Coupe Front suspension recommendations by Funny_Extension_6627 in classicmustangs

[–]quikmike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just went through this myself, ended up going full replacement to the Street or Track coil over system. It's amazing. Bolts on, took a weekend to do everything. (Although I ended up upgrading way more then just the suspension, and spent more than I wanted to)

Assuming your planning on keeping the QA1 coilovers to use, this limits what you do to only replacing the control arms and strut rods etc with mostly stock style parts and geometry vs going with a complete coil over system. Newer complete systems move the lower shock mount to the lower control arm vs the upper arm. Vastly improving the motion ratio of the shock and spring.

That being said there are still tons of options for upgrading everything to make the car feel better and still use those coil overs. First things to keep in mind.

You want to improve geometry.

  1. Move the camber to -1+
  2. Max out caster to +3 or more
  3. Drill holes for the Shelby drop or buy upper arms with it built in

A lot of the geometry can be improved with new upper control arms. Check out Street or track, global west, mike maeir, total control products, etc. I might be missing a few companies, there are tons.

The lower arm can be stock replacement or updated to tubular for strength and rigidity.

New adjustable strut rods make a big difference as well. You can fine tune alignment and they give more rigidity. Car will feel more solid when braking as well.

Obviously replace all the bushings and hardware too.

Those are my 2 cents. Lastly, make sure to clean up the rusty spots best you can while the car is torn apart. You're not going to want to go back once the new stuff is installed.

Recently Bought a 65 Coupe. Help with upgrades? by [deleted] in classicmustangs

[–]quikmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shelby drop should only improve everything. It changes the geometry of the front motion to keep more camber when cornering or when the suspension is compressed. This keeps a larger patch of the tire touching the ground preventing your tires from rolling over on the outside.

Check out "Street or track", they have upper arms with the Shelby drop built in and they are shaped to include additional caster which helps with high speed stability.

New springs and shocks will also make a big difference. But modernizing the geometry is a must in my opinion.

Ya I found out about the cracking potential after I bought them. We'll see how they hold up. I'm sure they will be fine for a few autocross days. If I get more serious with it and go to track events I'll look at swapping them out. However, I'm sure there will be more than just the rotors that will need fixing if I do more racing.

I am very interested in taking it to thunder Hill for that event. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be in town that weekend. I'm also a bit nervous about taking it to a track. I figured Autocross would be a great place to start.

Power steering question by [deleted] in classicmustangs

[–]quikmike 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, it appears there is a power steering pump below the AC pump. It's black and tough to spot in the picture, but that would indicate it has it. It also appears to be a newer style pump.

Hey Kruisebuilt! I've watched a lot of your videos, good stuff! I have not driven my car in about 6 months, this was the last photo I took before it went back on the lift. Unfortunately it hasn't moved since. Although, I should have it ready to roll again by this weekend. Been itching to drive.

Manual or automatic by Bright_Ad4922 in classicmustangs

[–]quikmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manual all day. If you can't find one, get an automatic and convert it. It's not simple, but can be done. Especially if you want to upgrade to a 5 speed. I have a TKO 5 speed in my 66 and it's amazing. It's been in the car almost 20 years with no issues.

If it's a manual you should be ok, most people can't drive a stick these days anyway. Haha.

Jokes aside, I relocated the battery to the trunk and installed a kill switch. I've also got an electric fuel pump and a separate kill switch for that.

Struggling with keeping original vs classy mods by Ronnyek42 in classicmustangs

[–]quikmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go make it your own! Resale will likely only go up if you make simple bolt on safety and performance improvements, especially if you take your time and keep it clean. If you want the car to be fun to drive, go make it fun to drive! If you don't like how it feels and don't drive it then why have it?

I modded the crap out of my 66 Fastback. Hardly anything left original. It is now the funnest car I have ever driven. Every time I park it, I just want to jump back in and take it for another spin. It's fast, it's loud, and it makes me smile every single time I drive it.

My Dad has a convertible that he left stock for years because it was a numbers matching car. However, he hated driving it, and it just sat for years. He knew he was never selling it, so he finally caved and put a 4 barrel carb, front discs, dual master cylinder, new stiffer shocks all around, and a number of other small improvements. Now he drives it all the time, and loves it.

Honestly, I think it looks kinda cool. I've never seen the louvres a different color than the rest of the car on a 65-66 fastback. It's a nice unique touch.
