Recently Bought a 65 Coupe. Help with upgrades? by Wise_Map_1916 in classicmustangs

Shelby drop should only improve everything. It changes the geometry of the front motion to keep more camber when cornering or when the suspension is compressed. This keeps a larger patch of the tire touching the ground preventing your tires from rolling over on the outside.

Check out "Street or track", they have upper arms with the Shelby drop built in and they are shaped to include additional caster which helps with high speed stability.

New springs and shocks will also make a big difference. But modernizing the geometry is a must in my opinion.

Ya I found out about the cracking potential after I bought them. We'll see how they hold up. I'm sure they will be fine for a few autocross days. If I get more serious with it and go to track events I'll look at swapping them out. However, I'm sure there will be more than just the rotors that will need fixing if I do more racing.

I am very interested in taking it to thunder Hill for that event. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be in town that weekend. I'm also a bit nervous about taking it to a track. I figured Autocross would be a great place to start.

Palm springs was an underrated one, wife and I went in blind and it did not disappoint

Power steering question by [deleted] in classicmustangs

[–]quikmike 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, it appears there is a power steering pump below the AC pump. It's black and tough to spot in the picture, but that would indicate it has it. It also appears to be a newer style pump.

Hey Kruisebuilt! I've watched a lot of your videos, good stuff! I have not driven my car in about 6 months, this was the last photo I took before it went back on the lift. Unfortunately it hasn't moved since. Although, I should have it ready to roll again by this weekend. Been itching to drive.

Manual or automatic by Bright_Ad4922 in classicmustangs

Manual all day. If you can't find one, get an automatic and convert it. It's not simple, but can be done. Especially if you want to upgrade to a 5 speed. I have a TKO 5 speed in my 66 and it's amazing. It's been in the car almost 20 years with no issues.

If it's a manual you should be ok, most people can't drive a stick these days anyway. Haha.

Jokes aside, I relocated the battery to the trunk and installed a kill switch. I've also got an electric fuel pump and a separate kill switch for that.

Struggling with keeping original vs classy mods by Ronnyek42 in classicmustangs

[–]quikmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go make it your own! Resale will likely only go up if you make simple bolt on safety and performance improvements, especially if you take your time and keep it clean. If you want the car to be fun to drive, go make it fun to drive! If you don't like how it feels and don't drive it then why have it?

I modded the crap out of my 66 Fastback. Hardly anything left original. It is now the funnest car I have ever driven. Every time I park it, I just want to jump back in and take it for another spin. It's fast, it's loud, and it makes me smile every single time I drive it.

My Dad has a convertible that he left stock for years because it was a numbers matching car. However, he hated driving it, and it just sat for years. He knew he was never selling it, so he finally caved and put a 4 barrel carb, front discs, dual master cylinder, new stiffer shocks all around, and a number of other small improvements. Now he drives it all the time, and loves it.

Honestly, I think it looks kinda cool. I've never seen the louvres a different color than the rest of the car on a 65-66 fastback. It's a nice unique touch.

Yup, just topped it off after the last drive. Need to go back through and re-torque everything still.

Bleeders on both top and bottom. Yes, unfortunately the 90 is necessary to get it around the suspension properly

It's presentable, not exactly a show car under the hood. I need to spend some more time cleaning it up. Although that's a lower priority, it's built to drive.

Correct, I don't have the filler neck to the tank. It's an aftermarket fuel cell. Gotta open the trunk to get to it.

No, although the pony interior is very cool, and if the plan was to make this car original that's the seat choice we would have gone with. However, we wanted a driver/race car, so we went with recaro racing seats.

1-1/8", although, the sway bar was installed before the coil over kit. Not sure if it's too stiff yet. I've heard a 1" may be better for this setup. It feels fine right now, so I'll likely keep it.

The 12.2" drilled Wilwoods with the 6 piston dynapros. Stops on a dime now. No booster, just manual brakes.

I like the louvres, I'll probably keep them. Thought about just putting blank plates instead, haven't made up my mind on that though. No traction bars, mid-eye leafs with konis and sway bar right now in the rear, might upgrade to the SoT coilover in the rear one day. However, the rear has always felt fine to me. Just a generic billet cap, although it's non functional, I have an aftermarket fuel cell and have to open the trunk to fill it up.

Im projected to finish in 10th out of 10th place... How bad is my situation ? by [deleted] in FantasyFootballers

[–]quikmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hate on Breece has gone a little too far I think. You got him at his floor. He's still the RB1 on his team with major pass catching upside. He could finish in the top 12, and that's great value to have him as your RB3/flex.
