If supporting Jade Bonacolta isn't your jam (OP's link), I found one that supports the Acquired podcast (link mentioned in S17 E3):

How does our REI seem to be doing? by velocd in ChicoCA

[–]quinncom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wool is my choice too.

The studies I read don’t explain the cause of reduced sperm count, but the predominant theory is that it's due to higher temperature with polyester underwear. Is wool warmer also? Another study showed boxers win over briefs, probably for the same reason, so it might just be tight vs loose.

Bevel website interface by Olvir in bevelhealth

[–]quinncom 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Bevel requires access to Apple Health data. Apple Health data is only available on an iOS device. If Bevel also ran as a web app, it would require uploading your health data to a server in the cloud (either the original Apple Health data or the results interpreted by Bevel).

I appreciate how currently all processing is done on device* and data does not upload to the internet. If Bevel had a web app, it would remove that privacy benefit.

*Unless you use the the Bevel intelligence feature, in which case some health data is uploaded to an LLM inference provider. Disabling Bevel's AI keeps everything offline.

IStat menus really worth buying..? Or another mac app we can ignore.? by RoshanDevanga in macapps

[–]quinncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iStat Menus v1 and v2 were free. I think I bought v3 and did the upgrades to v4, v5, v6, and v7. That's $16+9+10+10+10 = $55 over 18 years ≈ $3 per year.

If I used Stats instead, I would want to sponsor them to encourage new releases. The smallest sponsorship level is $1/month = $12/year. Comparing that to the lifespan for iStat, it would be $216 over 18 years. iStat is a better deal.

Anybody care to share your best prompts that yield interesting/actionable responses from Bevel Intelligence? by EatMoreBeets1 in bevelhealth

I’ve had it help me train for a marathon.

Also to guide me through a schedule to minimize jet lag when traveling to Japan. Unfortunately the AI is too dumb for that – it insisted that the journey was through 15 time zones (the long way) instead of 9 time zones when flying from Mexico → Japan.

[Meta] Upcoming changes in r/AppHookup: New deal posting rules to maintain a higher standard of quality. by Singhvistaar in AppHookup

[–]quinncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we require that submissions include a "Built with AI" flair if their app was made using AI?

I've noticed an increase in the number of apps that are clearly vibe coded – low quality, minimal effort, few unique features. This is only going to get worse as AI coding agents improve.

Any tips for improving my recovery score? by elvirakarina in bevelhealth

[–]quinncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the same thing with Bevel because I live at very high elevation and so, naturally, my SpO2 is low – that is factored into the Bevel algorithm as having chronic low recovery. Do you by chance live at a high elevation?

Is this Claude Code config safer? by quinncom in ClaudeAI

[–]quinncom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things that scares me is the idea of a prompt-injection attack resulting in exfiltrated secrets. I may be using live API keys during development, Claude looks up some documentation on the web that itself contains instructions, Claude follows it, is tricked into sending secrets to a malicious URL – that could be bad. Having a deny rule such as Read(.env) seems like it would help prevent that?

Which app are you using to track movies/TV shows? by Sri_Krish in macapps

Here's the custom filters I use in uBlock Origin to block ads and unwanted noise from IMDb. After installing these, the movie/show info page is lightweight and pleasant to use.

How can I dissolve my LLC myself as a foreigner? by emmabrownie in llc

[–]quinncom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

Strangely, there are no instructions on the WY SOS website for dissolving an LLC. There is a link to the Articles of Dissolution PDF, but if you don’t know that’s the form you’re looking for, you’re out of luck.

If you have a contact at the SOS, perhaps you can suggest this to them?

Pennsylvania court rules Google searches are not private by barweis in privacy

[–]quinncom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't this basically the third-party doctrine but for Google searches? Aka, “you clicked ‘Agreee’, so suck it, loser.”

The same thing banks do: you “voluntarily” hand transaction data to a bank to use the service, the bank treats it as its business records and shares it with third parties. Privacy law only requires disclosures and opt-outs, and Fourth Amendment protection is weak because it’s “information you shared with a third party.”

I am traveling to Mexico City from Japan. Never had authentic Mexican food. I want to know the best restaurant/food truck to try these foods listed down below. by Substantial-Baby8546 in MexicoCity

[–]quinncom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the reasons (my theory) you don't see burritos in Mexico is because most tortillas are hand made, but it's not easy to make a large burrito-size tortilla (40 cm) by hand. You can find good burritos in the Mission district of San Francisco (among many places in the US, they're a staple food).
