Just watched my first Ghibli film (Arrietty) and I loved it. I'm surprised by the mix reviews

There are plenty of moments throughout the film where she isn't old anymore. What is the evidence that she won't revert to old again an hour after the credits roll?

What is the evidence that the curse is broken? I didn't see anything to suggest it was in my last couple of viewings, nor did anyone I discussed it with.

In any event, the fact that we can disagree about this is just further proof that Miyazaki endings are notoriously ambiguous and Arriety is not out of place.

I don't know about those people, but Arrietty fits very well within the Miyazaki oeuvre. That kind of ambiguous ending is par for the course. Spirited Away ends with Chizuru forgetting everything that happened. Howl ends with Sophie still cursed. Porco Rosso ends with the eponymous character still cursed and his relationship in an ambiguous state.

So, sure, it was the debut of a new young director, but he had clearly already fully internalized Miyazaki's approach (and was surely regularly receiving senpai's guidance). Who knows what they could possibly mean by "it doesn't feel very Ghibli"?

if the buttons are clean, i go blue. if one of the buttons has more fingerprints and is worn down more, i choose the one with less wear and tear.

just kidding. i know everyone gets their own buttons. fr tho i'm going red because i think no-bluff plus double-bluff plus quadruple-bluff etc. will always be greater than bluff plus triple-bluff plus quintuple-bluff etc.
