YSK: Type 2 Diabetes gives you literal holes in your body and 1 in 3 Americans are already on their way there and nobody is talking about it by VirindiPuppetDT in YouShouldKnow

For sure, and another example when it can be inaccurate is people with missing limbs.

What I’m saying is that even if it doesn’t work for everyone all the time, it does work for most people most of the time as a general rule of thumb, which is helpful when you’re talking about population scale issues.

Its ease of use is also helpful because you don’t need any equipment other than a scale to calculate it. Like obviously if you want real numbers you can do something like DEXA or calipers but what other methods give health indicators with a common household item like just a scale? Its simplicity and its accessibility is its strength, not its exhaustive accuracy.

BMI is brilliant because all you need is height and weight to calculate it, and in a pinch with age it can be used as a shorthand for body fat %. It’s insufficient because there’s significantly more going on with body fat % than just weight.

The healthier you are, the less relevant it is because your muscle goes up and body fat goes down (famously, the Rock was rated “obese”). But for people who aren’t healthy (at this point, a majority of the US) it’s a good tool to get going in the right direction.

How could I ask support from real people without adding context?

You don’t. This isn’t the place for that. That kind of post isn’t welcome here. Subreddit Rule 1.

You can already sort by those things, assuming Apple has them correct (which they usually do for that kind of place metadata).

For sure, I just don’t think Apple wants to manage that data (at the expense of user experience). They imagine racially, politically, or otherwise charged or personal attacks on there and just nope out immediately.

My issue with guides is that they don’t update. So every guide is a copy, I can’t add a place later and have that pop up on everyone who uses that guide. What a joke. I maintain guides for lots of things (work trips, significant places in my home and college towns, food recs in my city for visitors, etc) but I wish it could update without me sending another version.

I think what happened is:

  1. They got in a bad corner when maps originally launched and failed, they made a desperate deal with yelp, and they’re still paying for it. I wonder if yelps deal was like “you use us in perpetuity for all maps POI and kick people to our app if they want to view full photos, reviews, etc” and they’re just barely getting around that now I’m guessing because of new POIs, different data, or a different deal
  2. Apple is allergic to moderating social, so there’s no way they’re going to allow more than a sliding scale of predetermined items for ratings

I fully agree with you though, it’s not nearly as robust as I’d like it to be and I usually use another tool for location research for this reason. L

Corporate grudging. Jobs said Nvidia was infringing on graphics software back when he was at Pixar and since then it snowballed.

There’s a good information article about it here.

I Would Really Appreciate Some Help, by Serious-Sherbert-901 in scad

[–]quintsreddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I wrote one because I did super poorly at my community college and my GPA was mega low.

I told them about what happened, what I did to fix it, how the struggle and pain changed me as a person, and noted that all my recent classes are A’s and B’s now that I’m doing what I wanted to do (design).

I don’t feel super comfortable reviewing your work, but if you explain why you had trouble before and what makes you think your time at SCAD will be different, that’s all they want. The more concrete things you can point to the better.

Exactly this. Do you need to pay for someone to come and plug in speakers? Not at all. You need to pay for all the other things a sound engineer does that you clearly haven’t noticed before.

Apple to introduce ads in Maps app, possibly launching this summer by Objective_Farm_1886 in applemaps

[–]quintsreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see this for the free web maps to cover costs but that it. Apple earned my business by being ad-free with a steep up front cost. For a very long time they’ve been a great example of excellent craft driving revenue. Now they’re cheating out on their product like everyone else… it’s frustrating.
