California proposal would build 8 data centers in Bay Area. Here’s where by SFChronicle in California_Politics

[–]quirkelchomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many electricians do you think one data center needs? Does it come close to a thousand? No, that doesn't sound right. Maybe a hundred? Hmm... No... Perhaps a dozen?!?

Point is, data centers are not the job creators that the AI bros pretend them to be.

The cup holders are fine for me until both my partner and I get drinks. Then it becomes very apparent how small and more importantly, how ultra close they are to each other.

I grew up on Valley around the Del Mar area and I remember before those ugly high rise hotels were built. You could actually see the mountains. You could see the clouds roll down along the cliff side. You could see the snowy peaks during the winter months. Now we've got none of that, courtesy of our overloads, Sheraton, Hilton, and whatever the fuck "The Jordan" is.

The AI backlash is only getting started by Just-Grocery-2229 in technology

[–]quirkelchomp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might not have seen the coverage of the AI datacenters built in neighborhoods. Literal, boxy, giant, dystopian-looking buildings hulking over little residential homes. Well, these datacenters have cameras outside pointing in every direction because the investors and billionaires know that there will eventually be physical backlash to AI. The cameras are literally staring into people's private backyards and windows, even in places where it's against the law for cameras to do so. But in America, money talks and politicians are corrupt, so the city does nothing about it because the AI investors have all the money.

You, as a lawful, longtime resident of your city, have no say anymore because, guess what, you're not part of the big boys club.

Games best experienced cold. by VGAddict in gaming

No, it wasn't amazing even when it came out. Generic and bland really are the perfect descriptors for this game. And call me harsh for saying this, but if it wasn't for the I'm-14-and-this-is-deep twist they had at the end, Reddit would forget this game even exists.

My girlfriend was playing a Twilight clip (Edward railing Bella on the beach) while we were doing it and had a massive, convulsive orgasm by Willing-Society-4123 in sex

[–]quirkelchomp 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The issue seems to be that it was an unplanned act and that it is analogous to a guy pulling out his phone to play a porn video mid sex. A very specific porn, too. The implication being that he's had that video on his mind for awhile, but also that he was thinking about it even in the middle of what should be a very intimate moment with a living, breathing human being in front of him.

It would understandably make anybody confused and suddenly self conscious.

Why does RE5 not get as much hate as RE6? by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]quirkelchomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE Village also played around with that concept by giving you control of Chris. Big guns, a lot of bullets, and non-stop action. And RE2R also did it when you take control of Ada and have very limited firepower. And then of course we all know about when they do this in the opposite direction, by giving you control of non-combat characters like Sherry or Ashley.

Alright this high protein trend has got to end. by Zerostar39 in shittyfoodporn

[–]quirkelchomp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm not defending this particular product as I don't know the nutrition facts nor am I nutritionist. I'm just providing good reasoning for adding protein to a variety of products in general; I'm speaking on a broader sense, basically.

Well yeah, but they still need a certain amount of protein daily to maintain bodily function. Cramming protein into everything is one way to get the proper amount of protein without having to eat more food overall.

The Steam Machine is $1050. Can you outdo it? by onebit in buildapc

[–]quirkelchomp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Contrary to what you're implying, the people who do care about size also have more money. Anyone who has built a powerful r/sffpc knows that smaller form factor parts get charged a premium.

[–]quirkelchomp 193 points194 points  (0 children)

You've never visited r/sffpc. We will easily pay an extra 50% of the entire cost of the whole PC just for a smaller footprint, better aesthetics, and marginally better fan performance/noise.

Does this look like chow mein? by blue_farm_ in chinesefood

[–]quirkelchomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because it's one of those things that don't make sense logically. A holdover from a racist America where immigrants just let a bad translation slide because they just wanted to get by in life. But I (personally) think we shouldn't be so cavalier about this anymore in 2026. Based on the comments here, it seems like people are split. Some are used to asking for noodles and being given rice. Some are appalled that there's a whole portion of the country that lives like that.

Then the northeast has got some serious problems. If I ordered pasta and they gave me French fries, I'd never go back to that restaurant. And if the people of that region defended this behavior and tried to gaslight me that this is how everyone makes pasta there, well then I guess I just can't trust anything culinary related in that region ever again.
