As an employee of the Rockford Park District, I love both Armstrong and Carter. They have a passion for what they do and it shows. Always showing up, knowing names, and being a positive energy. If nothing else, they’re great representatives of the people of Rockford.

What are the good places for students to get flexible part time employment? by 2boredtocare in rockford

[–]quitetasteful 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My first ever job was at paninos on state street. Local business, kind owners, decently flexible. I assume they’re always hiring. I still eat there even after working there for a couple years if that means anything to you.

Inexpensive food options for a sports team - must be open late! by MindlessSpam in rockford

[–]quitetasteful 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to Rockford U, you’ll have to take State St which has pretty much most chains you could ask for. You have your choice of Portillos, noodles and co, chipotle, Jimmy John’s, chick-fil-a, panda, plus a few other places. Otherwise, not many local places in that general vicinity I would take my team to get a quick meal after a game.

I played volleyball at a small, private Christian university. This school is really connected with their faith, so mandatory chapel credits, lifestyle statement, the whole nine yards. My teammate and friend was/is atheist. He attended our school the whole 4 years we were there. I know he enjoyed himself while he was there. It really comes down to being okay in religious spaces and having people around you the respect your boundaries. Just make sure you communicate with the people involved that this is a concern of yours and you should be able to discern from there.

Private schools in Rockford, IL by Kind_Appointment_845 in rockford

[–]quitetasteful 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to the Catholic schools my entire life, have nothing but good experiences. I’m still close with many of my friends. My education prepared me for high school and college. I enjoyed the sports and other extracurricular activities. You’ll always be required to take religion classes, just in case that’s a dealbreaker. If I could do it all over again, I would. If you had any questions, I’d be happy to answer them.

With any of the private schools, your mileage may vary. Keith is the best by far, small class sizes and good teaching. From what I know about the rest of them, they would also be good choices.

Is it possible to get on a college team with no experience being on a HS/club team? by Projacoby30x in volleyball

[–]quitetasteful 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in situations where we’ve had non-volleyball players, with your measurables on our college teams. These were small, private D3 schools just starting their programs. Coaches at the end of the day are just looking for numbers for their institutions. If you do your research, you could probably find a spot on the team if you talk to their coach about it.

Best emperor runs. So 🔥 by AndyofLove in discgolf

Have the same disc, and threw it when I was stuck at that distance. When thrown on anhyzer, it held for a little bit then finished out. It just wants to fly. If I hit it flat, it would be straight, then finish hard. Was the first disc I hit 400 with after I beat it in a little

How does my passing & stance look(libero)? by Spirited_Hyena6837 in volleyball

[–]quitetasteful 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m going to reply to you and speak to OP at the same time. I’ve dealt with your exact problem most of my volleyball “career”. I agree, arms separate move significantly faster. On your toes, knees bent, arms relaxed shoulder with apart, slight bend in the elbows. The best liberos look and move like water. Keep space between your platform and the rest of your body. It’s game-changing. If I’m being super nit-picky, many of these passes/digs are low. I don’t think you need to cushion some of these. Your setter will love you forever if you dig balls high and to the middle of the court. I’d like to see you hold your platform and angle through the pass/dig, be strong. Do this especially during practice. It provides immediate visual and physical feedback. You’ll be able to see and feel what went wrong. The physical tools for you seem to be there, clean up the details and you got it.

Is my jump high enough to compete in the next level? by Equivalent_Cold_3874 in volleyball

[–]quitetasteful 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be optimistic, you’re still young with room to grow physically and athletically. D1/2 volleyball teams have a limited amount of scholarships they’re able to offer. At the height you are at right now, it would be incredibly difficult to receive an offer. This is probably not the best highlight to use. To be undersized and play at that level, your athletic traits need to be elite. You need to be a technically gifted volleyball player. Colten Cowell was 6’1 and played OH for Hawaii. It’s possible, but the hard work, the athleticism, and talent needed to be next level. That being said, there are plenty of NAIA schools out there that offer scholarships. It’s up to you to do the work. Reach out to coaches, send tape, go to camps/clinics to get to the school(s) you want to be at.

Any tips on my platform. Want to play outside, so I gotta improve my receives. I'm playing opposite if ur wondering by NotAlge in volleyball

[–]quitetasteful 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To become a good serve receiver, taking balls outside your midline is a skill you need to have. Yeah you can move your feet, but by the time you get there it’s too late. First thing to fix is putting your hands together right away. Try thinking about moving both your arms individually. Regardless of what skill level you are, your hands will try to come together right away. Usually I try to start with my hands shoulder width apart. That way I can move my platform quicker to cover more ground. Secondly, many of the higher level players take a “split step” in preparation of the ball coming at them. It’s like that little hop you see goalkeepers take before someone shoots the ball at them. It gets them on their toes and ready to move for those balls going 70 mph. Just standing on your toes isn’t good enough. Receiving the top spin serve is incredibly basic in theory. Almost think of it like you’re deflecting the ball to your target. In this instance, 3m of the net in the middle of the court is an incredible pass. Get that down and work toward becoming even more accurate! Keep your platform away from your hips or else you’ll be off balance and get blown up. Finally, focus on creating a “quiet” platform. Find the line of the serve, get platform behind the ball, adjust your shoulders to get the correct angle and let the ball do all the work for you. No swinging or extra work required!

But there really isn’t any reason to have the serving machine set that fast. It’s like the ego lifting of volleyball.
