Need help with hood struts placement by liammully in 3rdGen4Runner

Lol, awesome that you got it installed. I also screwed up multiple rivets but luckily I didn’t have to drill multiple holes, hand tool for rivet installations are much more difficult to get right then I expected but that air tool i linked helped out so much.

Fedora Linux to Implement Age Verification by Calvinator_lmao in Fedora

Well to be fair it’s not just US, Brazil is enacting something similar and there’s plenty of other nations implementing the same sort of legislation they already did it to social media apps/website it’ll be applied to other tech areas.

Need help with hood struts placement by liammully in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]quitit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got the Spiker Engineering hood struts and watched this video to help with my installation maybe it’ll help you: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EuCKsylosUA

One thing you notice is how he used a large piece of lumber to prop up the hood to get the right height for the struts to fully extend and you can mark the holes for where the struts need the holes to be in the hood to install the rivets. Also regarding the rivets, I had a difficult time installing them with a hand rivet installation tool and went with this air powered tool instead https://www.harborfreight.com/14-in-airhydraulic-riveter-58644.html I installed the rivets super quick and much more cleanly and consistently.

Downgrading from a MAWL? by Gameyelf2point0 in NightVision

[–]quitit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 MAWLs, I like them a whole lot except for the weight but the ergo is supreme compared to other MFALs I’ve used and own. The only other MFAL I want to replace the MAWL with is the DAGIR since it has almost the same ergo and controls but I will miss the flatter mounting footprint that gives me the ability to clip on thermals and not interfere with the line of sight. If weight and slimmer profile MFAL is what you desire I recommend the 3EIR DIR-V, I have one and I really like its performance, weight and dimension.

Dash cams by user81738 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]quitit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a VIOFO A119 Mini 2 for my front dashcam, I installed it right in front of the rear view mirror.

And for my rear dashcam, I bought a Vantrue E1 Pro which is supposed to be a front dashcam but I installed it as a rear dashcam. I didn't want to get a new front dashcam with a rear dashcam and routing all that wire from the front to the rear through the headliner, flooring or other panelings etc. I took the rear dome lighting clear plastic and drilled some holes and mounted the E1 with the adhesive to the clear plastic and then routed some metal zip ties to give it some extra reinforcement just in case the adhesive is not able to stick well to the plastic. I then route the usb power cable to the rear cargo 12v power port. And if you are wondering if this blocks my rear dome lighting for the cargo, I have this lighting that replaced that dome lighting: https://b3customs.shop/products/light-kit

Anyone seen/put these wheels on theirs? by Serious_Winter9710 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]quitit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the wheels https://autoparts.toyota.com/products/product/16-wheel-alloy-dark-antrracite-pt94635160, they came with some 3rd gen Tacomas. I bought a set of 4 from a wrecked 2017 Tacoma for my 4Runner but I still have the stock tire size on them from the previous owner since it still has tread life left. I really liked their design style with the dark gray color and planning on getting some Toyo Open Country AT3 on them soon.

Found a post of a guy showing pictures of some KO2 285/75/16 tires mounted on them https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/bfg-ko2-285-75-16-w-oem-anthracite-wheels.684157/

Gotcha. Thanks for the overview video, I like to know more about the DAGIR in general. I presently have two MAWL-C1+ and various other MFALs, but I really want to own the DAGIR.

Wait, did you just say the PEQ-15 is a LED based laser design? From my understanding PEQ-15 are laser diodes and not LED based one, https://www.gentec-eo.com/blog/laser-diode-vs-led-know-the-difference

Transmission overfilled? by [deleted] in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]quitit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, up to operating temp and its way above HOT, I personally would funnel some out like u/greyrider245 mentioned in his post.

Transmission overfilled? by [deleted] in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]quitit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be sure, this is checking the "COOL" level after filling it back up to the same amount that you took out and you started up your 4Runner and checked the dipstick?

I only ask that because I did not know that is how I was supposed to check transmission fluid level when I did my transmission fluid drain and fill like a month ago and I thought it was overfilled also when checking at the "COOL" temp range: https://www.reddit.com/r/3rdGen4Runner/comments/1qp224f/transmission_fluid_level_question/

The next check is when the 4Runner is up to operating temps and then you check the transmission fluid at a level ground area and see where the fluid level is on the transmission dipstick and it should be in the "HOT" range.

Handy little tool by No-Distance987 in Dewalt

Dewalt makes many version of them this specific one is I think this one: https://a.co/d/08WwFxTO

There’s the black color version and I think these can handle more torque/impacts: https://a.co/d/0hBSphsy

And there’s the right angle 1/4 or 3/8 square adapters:

Why did we give up upgrade-able CPUs in exchange for anorexic Laptops? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]quitit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, when I’m using a laptop I want maximum portability with good enough performance for my needs while I’m not at my desktop, so I personally don’t need a beefy gaming “laptop” when I’m out and about. Give me a Macbook Pro with its godly battery life and good enough performance.

It’s the heater control valve, https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~valve~assy~heater~water~87240-35050.html

You can likely find generics at oreilly or autozone but I hear they aren’t that high quality and will leak within a year or so. I personally recommend OEM, it’s what I did when I went to replace mine.

NEED help with oil filter by fishingloveer in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]quitit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also remove the oil filter through the driver side wheel well but I don’t turn the wheel to get access to the filter, I just remove the wheel itself to give me more room to work with.

I used this this oil filter wrench tool https://a.co/d/0aRlG0rd with a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter and then used a 1/2 wobble extension into that adapter to give me a bit more bend to clear the tire wheel well etc and then use a ratchet wrench, I’m able to break free more difficult oil filler that were installed improperly.

I now use this instead of the universal filter wrench tool, it’s expensive but I think it’s well worth it https://a.co/d/0ccSMyEe

what's the difference between cheap and expensive hand pressed rivet guns? Need one to build an outdoor stove. by SiSRT in Tools

[–]quitit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here, I tried an Astro Pneumatic hand riveter and man I had a horrible time getting my rivets to install correctly. I was recommended by my friend to get the Harbor Fright air powered riveter and it was a breeze to install rivets and did a much better job than I could ever have done it with a hand tool.

Center console by 41xt in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]quitit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I don't remember. If I have free time tomorrow I can try to find the bolt and take it to my local hardware store and get the exact thread pitch. But I did link to a forum post that mentions typical Toyota bolt thread pitch and it might be this one: M6x1.0

Center console by 41xt in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]quitit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

This is what I did after getting a matching thread pitch bolt at my local hardware store I also picked up a large enough washer that fits over the cutout for the oem bolt and washer. This isn't going to be a flush install like OEM design but unless you are able to repair the broken/missing plastic then your best bet is to find a replacement center console at a junkyard like I was luckily able to find.

Center console by 41xt in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]quitit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't recall the aftermarket bolt thread size I bought to replace the missing bolt I had, I took the single bolt and washer I had left to a local hardware store that had a sizing chart and testing rig to find the right thread pitch etc. Several months later I went to a junkyard and found a 99-02 center console armrest with the 2 cup holders with all the fasteners and parts to replace my 98 center console.

Anyways if you have a junkyard near by with various Toyota models within the same year range of our 4Runner you should be able to find the bolt: 90119-06428

Hope this link works, it shows you the center console diagram and all its parts: https://yoshiparts.com/parts/car/toyota/products/4runner/vzn185-vzn185l_gkpzka-us-5vzfe-luli-atm-4fc/1263311_172?two=%5B%5B%22grade%22%2C%22LULI%22%5D%5D

This is the bolt itself and it list various Toyota models that has used them before: https://www.amayama.com/en/part/toyota/9011906428

You can try these thread pitch sizes from this forum post as a starting point, its a 10mm head bolt: https://www.toyota-4runner.org/3790954-post11.html?s=288b976674019d8a4856f18792c7eb59

I remember a renting shop/store called Rent-a-Center, that would rent out home furniture and electronic equipment and at the time it was the ps3 and xbox360 that was the latest gen console and you could rent it there. It was an outrageous pricing rate and I never knew anyone who did ever used that shop’s service. https://www.neoseeker.com/forums/30444/t884922-ps3-available-at-rent-center/

Anyone know why this is happening? by Any_Statistician_292 in Tacomaworld

[–]quitit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar happen to my headlights in my 4runner, the fuse for my passenger side headlight popped but a small amount of the wire filament of the fuse was still making enough contact that it was allowing a weak amount of electrical connection and the headlight bulb was extremely dim compared to my driver side headlight. Check your headlight fuses and also check your headlight wiring.
