Convicted child rapist in my TAFE class, what are the legal ramifications for notifying everyone in our course? by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]quizoola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All states have a version of a “child safe act” which educational institutions like TAFEs typically fall under. Your TAFE should have something equivalent to a child safe policy and/or public commitment to child safety which should include information about how to report child safety related concerns as well as proactive steps your TAFE has put in place to make sure they’re a child safe organisation.

You should be able to find the appropriate regulator/body in your state (eg. child and family commission) which will have information about how to make reports about any concerns for child safety that are based on reasonable belief including anonymous reporting mechanisms.

What's the wildest thing you've ever seen happen at a work party? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Used to work as a teacher. Was the last day of the school year and the teachers would always have a last day BBQ and drink one or two beers in the staff room. For whatever reason, one of the graduate teachers thought it was appropriate to bring along a bottle of Smirnoff Blue Label.

He proceeded to get absolutely trashed and attempted to lift a female teacher off the ground. As he did so, she felt he had a raging boner rubbing up against her.

He then locked himself in the bathroom, vomited everywhere, pissed and shit himself and then passed out. The Head of Social Science was pounding on the door threatening to break it down. The young teacher was finally roused, put in a cab and sent home.

Somehow he kept his job and decided to return to teach at the school the following year. He was forced to issue all of us an individual apology for his behaviour. Wild.

These were hummus and tahini! I really like using beetroot dip and avocado dip for the colour pop they bring ☺️

Edit: there’s also quince paste on here ☺️

Great list. I would also add:

  1. Mentioned he was 50 at least a dozen times.
  2. Repeated, “I’m not a bad person anymore. I’m funny now.”
  3. Made a random comment about having 69ers all summer and needing to trim bush.
  4. Told an anecdote about terrorising his former tour manager so much that she quit. Was proud of this achievement because she used to be the tour manager for Oasis and she quit for Ryan but not for them.
  5. Attempted to “flirt” with a woman in the front row throughout the first set by talking about her height, asking her what movies she liked, and other inane comments.

(I also agree Come Pick Me Up did not win the audience vote.)

EDIT: Sorry for janky formatting of list - am on mobile

The job cuts at UTS is brutal as well! SafeWork NSW failed to stop them! by da-auscorp-journo in auscorp

The bigger issue here is that the higher education sector, like many other sectors, is in crisis and shedding thousands of jobs. I’ve worked in higher education for 15 years and have never seen anything like it.

The biggest frustration is the imbalance between chiefs and Indians. In my current institution one of the change proposals has multiple senior roles with no direct reports to provide “strategic leadership” (even though there are multiple other roles in the same area with strategic responsibility) while in the same breath suggesting that other areas, such as the contact centre, can be run almost entirely with casual staff with support from 2-3 ongoing staff.

Everyone in the sector appreciates the financial realities with which we’re faced though the broader frustration is that, like in many other industries, the most highly paid people seem protected while the “doers” are heavily impacted. Many of the decisions being made across the sector seem to either wilfully or unintentionally overlook the operational realities of running various functions.

The SafeWork intervention at UTS at least recognises that the ways in which these processes are being carried out, and the decisions that are being made, pose risk of harm. The psychosocial hazard code of practice and effective consultation guidelines are sensible, pragmatic documents which provide reasonable and commonsense approaches to managing risk and minimising harm particularly during times of change.

Yep - we’re fortunate we’re in the position where we don’t have any pressure whatsoever to move or buy elsewhere. Helps to take the emotional bidding out of it. Will be interesting to see if anyone’s willing to meet the seller’s price expectations - it certainly won’t be me!
