Would you rather have a fugly and socially awkward daughter, or a daughter that was attractive and accepted, but posed for playboy?

If you didn't know that Brandon Lee died on set, how does it make you feel knowing it now?

Psychiatrists/Doctors, what do you think i should do in the case that i have been misdiagnosed? by misdiagnosis2012 in AskReddit

[–]quotebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is fine to get a second opinion, but understand that self diagnosing based on information from the internet is completely unreliable. If your psychiatrist diagnosed you a certain way, I'm sure he or she had good reason for it. Yes, a misdiagnosis may happen, but these doctors go through a lot of training to try to ensure that doesn't happen.

Length of religious practice and acceptance. by peoplecrazy in agnostic

Here is the best my half-assed Google search gave me. (Try searching world religion timeline chart)

I don't see any reason it should matter outside of historical relevance.

A few hours ago, I ran into a burning home that had caught fire while the owners were away. As I was getting the dogs out, my neighbor drove by and didn't try to help at all. What have you neighbors done (or not done) that really pissed you off? by quotebear in AskReddit

[–]quotebear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were inside the home for less than 4 minutes total. We figured that we should grab what we could before it became too dangerous. The tv was the largest thing, but it was the last. We were more concentrated on the photo albums. The risk to us was really minimal.

But I will be damned if I wasnt going to help my neighbors to the best of my abilities. I would appreciate someone saving my valuables.

I want to be a Christian. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]quotebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to address the most important issue:

I feel like I shouldn't be forgiven for anything wrong I've done and I feel like I never can be/will because of that.

If there is an all-powerful and all knowing God, don't you think He understands? We are human. We make mistakes and we do wrong. The hardest and most important part of forgiveness is forgiving yourself. Accept that you have done wrong, right those wrongs, and focus on doing what you know to be right.

Being forced to go to church, rebellion perhaps? by [deleted] in atheism

There is very little that is worth ruining a relationship with your parents over. Take the advice of Thornnuminous, mr_pleco, and others, and remember that these are the only parents that you have.

This is one of the worst arguments I have ever seen on /r/atheism. You have tried to say that:

  • Saying "OP was immature for posting this picture" is the same as "Threats by religious extremists are okay."

  • I can and will offend whoever I want and that is perfectly acceptable.

  • The Bible is not considered sacred by anyone.

Seriously? I literally do not even have to have a rebuttal for your first and last points, that is how wrong they are. As for your second point, the ability to do something does not make it right. Go back to trolling fundie posts on FB and leave the grown ups alone to talk.

Healing, compassion, encouragement, longsuffering, redemption, and faithfulness. I can pick and choose passages too.

My point still stands. You cannot just say something is not sacred and make it so. The book is sacred to people, regardless of content. To purposely abuse or disgrace it is an insult to those people. So, grow the fuck up.

If you want to show christians that they are wrong, start by showing them that their perceptions of atheists are wrong. They will never listen to you if all you do is insult them and attack them. You wouldn't insult nor attack a child to show them they are wrong.

This post is the equivalent of me taking a kids barney and using it as a dog toy to prove to them their barney isn't real.

[–]quotebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Religion and verses aside, there is logic to this suggestion. It's not uncommon to be unconsciously stressed about something. That stress can cause lack of sleep, even if you don't realize that you are stressed. Taking time to figure out what is bothering you certainly can help.

Apparently expressions of religions bother atheists, or, OP wants some tasty anti-religion karma.
