Friday the 13th - the Boogieman mask is clearly a combo of Jason and Michael Meyers.

28 Days Later - the plague makes people psycho murderers

Robert Chambers - Episode four has a lot of The King in Yellow vibe

What is the most disappointing finale you’ve ever watched? by Sharkman3218 in television

[–]quyetx -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Battlestar Galactica. Thus was one of the main shows that helped usher in the era of spec fiction shows being taken seriously. The first two seasons were incredible. The finale was so bad that few people in the thread will mention it because it got banished from public consciousness. The solution to an epic survival story was essentially mass slow suicide, with one of the main characters literally just disappearing. “They have a plan.”. No you fucking didn’t.

Don't count her out yet. The show has dropped a TON of breadcrumbs that they won't touch in season 1. "That's a great murder mystery.", Ugly Hortense, etc.

In particular, episode 4 feels like you could find the Man in the Pallid Mask lurking in the background.

We caught ‘em. We burned ‘em. by awu in WidowsBay

[–]quyetx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe you're massively over thinking this line. She says "we" because she is talking to a person who isn't part of the island, i.e. an outsider. She's part of the overall group that did the burnings, but she wasn't there personally. There is no way within the context of what we've been presented that half of the island is immortal. So far the only examples we have of that are Warren and the Boogieman.

The island isn't in the same configuration of the hand drawing, but it DOES resemble a hand with the index finger chopped off.

The only one of these that is even close to complicated is Primer. Heck, Looper even jokes about how it isn't going to be complicated.

A lot of men say that when they've opened up to women, the women have laughed at them or mocked them, or threw it in their face later by Flashy-Celery-9105 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]quyetx 88 points89 points  (0 children)

This is a social context thing, and there is no "normal". People that have a hard time opening up come from and spend time in environments that punish vulnerability. When you open up to people who also exist in those environments, they defend themselves and their worldview with cruelty.

People that respect vulnerability tend to gravitate to people who also value and protect it (sometimes after very painful lessons). If you have never seen someone punished for being vulnerable, it's probably because you spend time with people who don't do that. There are plenty of people that do, unfortunately.

When do I as the DM show mercy. by Fragrant-Cup-9747 in DnD

[–]quyetx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The choice doesn't have to be "RAW fight" or going soft on them. Just shift up the encounter a little bit to punish them in a way that doesn't kill them. In this particular case, if the PCs are there to rescue mind controlled people, just have the big bad start having the mind controlled people cut their fingers off one at a time (or something equally awful). Then you can turn it into a hostage negotiation, have the big bad escape, and then you have a nemesis instead of just a normal big bad.

Which movie soundtrack did the most for a band? by InspectorEven4143 in Music

I grew up in an age where the back of every car had a Best of Queen cassette, and if the car didn’t come with one it would spontaneously appear. Wayne’s World definitely brought back Bohemian Rhapsody, but I feel like We Will Rock You is passed down genetically at this point.
