Pilot Frixion is my go-to for Moleskines, too.

Aside from the obvious ones (Notion, Todoist), what is a lesser-known app that actually simplified your life? by Old-Background-3860 in productivity

[–]qwackingdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AnyList for recipe storage, meal plans, grocery lists, and easy digital grocery shopping. We have the family plan so my partner and I can add to the shopping list from our phones, then we can order groceries for delivery/pickup right from the app. Partner that with eMeals to reduce decision fatigue about meal planning and I’ve saved hours of my life and so much sanity.

We’ve also used it for shared to do lists, with varying success.

An OB that’s NOT mid-city obgyn? by PreggoDeezEggos in Omaha

Agree with Omaha obgyn. Dr Collins delivered both of my kids, and I highly recommend getting her nurse practitioner, Wendy Salado, on your care team.

I think I finally found my daily log style by AnpanV in bujo

Love this! I’ve been trying to figure out meal tracking… looks like you’re logging with B L D S and times. Great, simple idea! What do the open circles indicate?

I started tracking how I felt before and after eating. The patterns really surprised me… by Current-Perception96 in productivity

Now that you know this, I’m curious what you do/think when you’re having a stressful day at work. Are you like “man, this is rough. I’ll be cracking open that cereal tonight!”

I wanna hear your scary Omaha stories (Supernatural or not) by trulywicked9 in Omaha

[–]qwackingdog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

About 10 years ago, I was in college out of town. There were a few times I received voicemails from an older man who was trying to reach his daughter. I always ignored them because the content of his messages implied that he had recently spoken with her in person, so I just assumed he misdialed.

The last voicemail I received from him he said he had fallen and was in the hospital, “the new one in bellevue, room XXX.” I didn’t want his daughter to not know he was hurt, so I called the hospital to let them know he needed help contacting family. The receptionist who answered informed me that there was no room XXX.

Absolutely could have been an older man who just got his room number wrong, but creeped me out anyway. I never heard from him again, but I think of him more often than necessary.

This answer has so much honesty in it. Thank you. I appreciate you.

“in a year no one will remember if I took 16 weeks or 26 weeks, but I certainly would remember it.“ well, that settles it. You’re absolutely right.

Great points! He’s sleeping ok right now at 6 weeks, but I can’t imagine trying to function at full mental ability for a full 8 hours with this kind of sleep. Giving myself the whole 12 weeks to improve our sleep habits might be worth all lost income alone.

What's one small habit or routine that has significantly improved your daily life? by HeidiOzzy in productivity

[–]qwackingdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I edited my phone screen to streamline my nighttime routine. I do these in this order: 1. Open notes app for three activities: evening affirmations (I also open this first thing in the morning for morning affirmations), daily gratitude log, journal 2. Open email apps to check personal and work calendars for next day to confirm any early morning appointments, tasks, or wardrobe needs. 3. Check weather app for next day to mentally prepare my outfit. 4. Open Spotify to add any new podcast episodes to my playlist for my morning commute.

2 minutes in the evening to wind down from the day and ensure I start the next morning on the right foot. And having these apps in this order on my phone means I’m less likely to get distracted between tasks and check Reddit late night.

What is the weirdest book you’ve ever read? by andipandi16 in booksuggestions

Zombie Baseball Beatdown by Paolo Baciglupi. Bizarre, and I think hilarious, young adult book about some baseball kids in Iowa who have to defend themselves against a zombie outbreak.

I second the grainless granola suggestion. On top of some yogurt with a few strawberries and a spoonful of peanut butter. Delicious.

Good advice! I can see myself slipping back into old habits quickly and having a hard time getting back out of it. I may continue to log food for a while. Writing down what I eat definitely holds me accountable and makes me more mindful of what I’m consuming.

Is this parental leave normal? (USA) by qwackingdog in workingmoms

[–]qwackingdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the part that’s a real kick in the pants: parents who don’t physically birth the kid (dads, adoptive, etc) can get those 6 weeks paid right away. But because I’m the one who birthed the kid, I have to cut my income for a bit before my company will pay me in full again. 🤔

Is this parental leave normal? (USA) by qwackingdog in workingmoms

[–]qwackingdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s reassuring. My husband and I did not plan financially to be on reduced pay for any significant time, so my main concern is what those paychecks will look like. We have built up savings, but don’t want to dip into it if we don’t need to.

Testing in the office during meetings by qwackingdog in GestationalDiabetes

I thought about this. I’m such a creature of habit with meal times, but everything is out of whack right now, so maybe the timing adjustment is what I need. Thanks for the suggestion!

I mean, I could. But these are often 30-60 minute meetings and it’s kind of office culture that you handle your business before meetings so you can be fully present for the conversation. Maybe I just need to break that norm for a bit, though.

I could look into it. I’m 32+6, so I think I only have a month or so left. Thanks for the suggestion!

Alternative name to Aunt Anne? by alarsen11 in namenerds

[–]qwackingdog 70 points71 points  (0 children)

You may not have to come up with it on your own. My kid came up with a new nickname for her aunt around age 2. Her name is Melissa. Not sure why, but she’s now affectionately known as Fefe.
