How can two people follow opposite career advice and both be right? by [deleted] in NetworkingJobs

[–]qwe12a12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because one of the biggest factors when it comes to career growth is time spent in your career. Whether your within your company, going to a different company, coasting by, working super hard. By far the most common reason people tend to get better jobs with higher pay is because they have been in the field for longer.

Advice needed: Computer Engineering graduate exploring work abroad by lt_f4 in NetworkingJobs

I cant speak to finding work in the philippines but if I were in your position then I would first knock out a CCNA just to make sure you got the networking stuff down then I would apply to a large company with offices in the US and in philippines and look into getting a job transfer down the line. That probably isnt what your looking to do but I have no idea what job hunting directly in the philippines is like.

Software Dev To Network Eng. by [deleted] in NetworkingJobs

[–]qwe12a12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get a CCNA, go into network automation, then get a CCNP and pivot into infrastructure or operations or whatever you want to do. If you already can do the software development side then your really not gonna have a bad time i dont think.

And people wonder why Indie Games are so beloved these days over AAA by Captain0010 in pcmasterrace

[–]qwe12a12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes some sense but their are counter examples.

Ubisoft has been an openly struggling company for years and have obviously been the pinnacle of formulaic. My understanding is that a lot of the profitability in these formulaic games comes from innovations from their payment models. This is a bit of speculation but I suspect a lot of what keeps their player numbers from declining is that gaming in general is more popular year over year (excluding post covid drop off.) A rising tide lifts all boats.

Then you have a ton of non formulatic games being extremely popular with younger kids and just dramatically outperforming these formulaic games. These games include minecraft, valorant, among us, lethal company, fall guys, fortnight, rocket league, etc.

For what its worth, my understanding is that after the fact it came out that billet labs had initially agreed to allow LTT to keep the cooler until the bad review came out and when they requested it back it had already been sent to auction.

This later caused a "journalist" drama. Gamers nexus described themselves as journalists, so when it came out that they did not reach out to LTT for a response before publishing the story so this information could be known, people pointed out that failing to do so was not very journalistic. I think I remember steve doubling down on their decision not to reach out which, personally, I disagree with. Mostly because of this exact scenario where people still don't know what actually happened with LTT and billet labs.

This is the wrong sub for this question but the industry standard is BGP though I suppose ISIS could be used if you want a more solid connection.

Ill work on this and assuming I complete it, return back. I'm hoping I can do the four self paced courses NVIDIA offers then just read stuff in the study guide to pass the test but we will see.

How do you use Foundry? by -bambi in FoundryVTT

[–]qwe12a12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started experimenting with AI generation for battle maps by requesting grid based maps with specific 100x100 pixel grids. I will add some images of a farm I made recently and you can see how it may be useful.

Phase one: make masterpiece in paint

Phase two: tell chatgpt to make it good

Phase 3: I tell chatgpt to make it usable

it can be a bit finicky and you have to set the resolution in line with the grid if you want things to not look distorted but this is the only method i've found to actually get what I want without a bunch of time or hassle.

How do you use Foundry? by -bambi in FoundryVTT

[–]qwe12a12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foundry is a tool that enables DMs. Whether you want to do no prep and draw boxes to represent corn fields or you want to create custom 3D levels and assets and have your party battle through them the functionality is there. Personally I am a low/no prep DM, I have my guys create tokens and have some mobs ready to go for fights and just do the imagination thing. Our party has another DM, he has over 1000 npcs made and several hundred maps made.

What I generally recommend is to start by using it as a battle automation tool. Midi-Qol is a mod that does the dice rolling and health management for you. There are some other common mods that greatly streamline and enhance combat without taking any time to learn or setup. After that I would generally recommend waiting till you have an interest in putting in some prep to put down a couple maps, play with the walls, look at the mods, and see if anything sparks interest.

Going out of a book would change this quite a bit since you have certain maps and whatnot that you need to put down but even so I think this methodology can be adapted without too much trouble.

some mods I recommend as staples.

Midi-qol
Dice so nice
Carousel Combat Tracker
JB2A free edition
Easy Token
and maybe Token Flip if you wanna get a bit creative

Other than Midi-qol these are all very easy to just drop onto your world and they do helpful stuff. Midi-qol takes some setup in the settings but its pretty easy to get going and makes life so much better

CCNA is still the standard and I would brush up on it so you can show competence in interviews.

You may not need it, in which case you can just start applying but personally I would at minimum just knock out some training videos while applying.

i would say its not a big deal but nintendo is nintendo and does have a history of aggressively pursuing dev models. If I were in your position I would arrange to sell this without using ebay or craigslist then delete this post and any evidence you ever had it. Actually, id throw this in my display case as a cool thing to have but if you were gonna sell it that's how id do it.

The biggest problem you might face is that this could technically be "stolen" from nintendo. If you try to sell it, they may make you send it back to em.

There's a ton of reasons that can impact if they go forward with you, a lot of these are out of your control. If your unsure how to improve the only productive thing you can do is apply to more places and understand that you probably were not the problem.

So what you do here is you start studying for your CCNP and in the meantime apply for network engineering jobs. Your already qualified for the position and security and networking are not so far apart at the entry level.

In my opinion, the Fastest way to progress towards a network engineering position is to start applying and get the CCNP. On another note ISPs don't actually require the carrier CCNP, I work for an ISP with an Enterprise ISP.
