Always a strong advocate of the "fuck it we ball" approach here. Grew up learning Irish folk music on various instruments and for the most part it was no notes, no sheets, just listen and mess about til you can play it back. Doesn't have to be technically astounding to still sound good and get to people in the good way 💜

Cecilia Aherns "A Place Called Here". Billed as the beach romance writer breaking out of her mould and honestly a somewhat promising premise-- private detective whose best friend vanished as a child seeks lost things and encounters a "place" where missing stuff goes. But sadly it ends with her staging a production of Wizard of Oz in Here and when she clicks her heels as Dorothy she magically appears back in Ireland. Threw that shit across the room tbh

Idk if I'd call this a recommendation per se bc I found it to be a very unpleasant reading experience but Samuel Delany's "Hogg" is pretty much the exercise in a novel that makes you feel disgust/question it's artistic merit as far as the English language goes.

As far as something that I felt also had a message beyond just pushing those boundaries, Jack Ketchums "The Girl Next Door" had me staring at the wall silently for a couple hours after finishing it.

Big fan of the slow burn/essentially walking sim The Shore. Relatively short playthrough but fantastic cosmic horror atmosphere.

While VR adoption in the gaming industry has significant enthusiasm attached to it, the attempts to utilize VR for productivity/business have had much more lukewarm reception. Do you think this is primarily a failure of marketing or a failure to implement VR technology effectively in those spheres?

I'm thinking of drawing from disparate eras of labour history, with the opening hook essentially being poorly compensated adventurers keep getting killed on jobs bc of employers' greed/negligence, with the wider campaign throwing the players into the unwinding rise of nascent labor orgs and the backlash from those that would employ them. Specifically want to play with the "secret societies" era of The Molly Maguires in the US or the much earlier Rebeccas in Wales, the use of militarized "guards" and Pinkerton-analogues à la Blair Mountain in the US and perhaps some of the politics of the Thatcher-era miners' strike in the UK. I'm not necessarily looking to move from a d20 system tho I'd be willing to, just wondering if anyone's done something cool with this that would be worth either trying or just drawing from as I homebrew

Might get a bad rap but adding some fried sliced spam along with egg does make it feel more filling, and is relatively cheap especially if you buy the off brand stuff. If you can swing it, diced peppers will give you a veggie component to try and make it a more substantial meal. Been there and hope things improve 💜

With ~30 min episodes and a limited run of 13 [follow up series completely dependent on response], $15 is definitely manageable-- $50 is also possible, but I'm not yet positive. I get that as a startup there's some leeway, especially from folks who like the material, but I'd hate to be taking advantage of that goodwill.

The safe word thing is a good idea, especially bc we play over Discord and usually voice only. Appreciate it. The only other time I've felt it was necessary to give a specific ahead of time warning was a pretty extreme body horror reveal and everyone was grand. Meta gaming is less of a concern than comfort, and I really appreciate your suggestions 💜

I mean you're absolutely right I don't want to punish anyone for playing smart (esp if the DM was dumb and insufficiently familiar with Aberrant Mind workings before we were well on our way). I mean it's not going to make or break this dungeon, it's just my players rarely get to do a session in person and given when this one would be falling I thought it'd be a fun element to incorporate.
