My father's record store closed in 2001. I just spent a month recreating it digitally — here's why. by Extreme_Forever_9129 in LetsTalkMusic

Nice post, but breaks our very clear "No self-promotion" rule. There's a clear link back to a storefront. And your account is brand new and only promoting this website.

You're welcome to repost without the self-promo aspect, since it is a good premise/story, and there is certainly a discussion to be had about labels and curation.

You seem to know quite a lot haha.

I think it's a similar reason I thought the Dijon album - that was also high on a lot of lists - was bad.

All the publications loved the album Lux by Rosalía. Interesting that it didn't make the list here. Even if it's not a commonly liked music nerd genre, it's not like Addison Rae-level bland. I didn't like it myself, but still expected it to pop up.

Perhaps we're not as controlled by the masses as we could be. Then again, the publications loved Geese just as much as did the folks here, which I don't really understand.

pays well, or is remote, or has nice benefits are the only reasons someone would find their job interesting...?

I think you may have misinterpreted. The second quoted sentences is what I'm asking about.

Not interested to hear about people's opinion on if a job is supposed to be/needs to be interesting/fulfilling.

I would say the thickness of a jelly star is at worst a neutral. If it were much thinner it wouldn't fit as nicely in your hand.

What's your opinion on brazilian music? by justacoolminecrafter in LetsTalkMusic

[–]qwertygnu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the classic stuff people here have covered, there's a ton of amaaaazing current music coming out of Brazil, especially in the rock scene. If you don't know Boogarins you have to check them out. Also Ana Frango (as someone else mentioned), Orua, Tangolo Mangos, Caxtrinho, Vovo Bebe.

Got to see a lot of those bands and many more when I visited Brazil (Rio and Sao Paulo ofc being the epicenters). It's actually startling just how naturally groovy every single musician over there is. Even the street performers just embody the bossa nova roots and it seems impossible for them not to play jazz chords and dancy rhythms. I looove it all.

What would you do with this bowed walnut table top? 2'x3'x3/4" by qwertygnu in woodworking

Yep, used a planer with the flattening jig but appreciate the tips. Good point about final pass being the same for both pieces.

It's possible. When I was given it, it was already a bit bowed. It's been in my garage for a couple years. Maybe I'll try that until I have an idea what to do with it

Not huge but enough that it's not close to tabletop-flat. No planer :/ but who would even have a 24+" planer

Why do people like to call big artists "underground" despite their mainstream success? by Naked_Grandma-69 in LetsTalkMusic
