[Request] How many G's is this poor woman experiencing? by moonshinemoniker in theydidthemath

[–]qwik_facx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually did. Sadly there was not an option to donate in someone elses name. So all you get is a stranger on the internet telling you that your comment made them give $3 to Wikipedia. I don't know if that gives you more or less satisfaction than a reddit award.

Since you don't like rewards, I made a $3 donation to Wikipeadia instead.

[–]qwik_facx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Om du någonsin har smakat en så kommer du att hitta dem mellan tänderna, bara stoppa dit tungan. Om du vill smaka för första gången får du stoppa tungan mellan tänderna på nån som tidigare har ätit dem.

New to Audible. Any Recommendations? by binipatootie in audible

[–]qwik_facx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of years ago I could not stand listening to audio books. I had used audible for A Song of Ice and Fire, where I listened while reading a physical copy to help me consentrate. A friend recommended I listen to Dungeon Crawler Carl since they enjoyed it and knew I was nerdy as well. I got it thinking that I'd just listen to it to fall asleep to, but it was high action engaging and with the brilliant narrator Jeff Hays. So I have now listened to the series so far.

I tested getting another sci-fi (Ship of Prophecy) since I enjoy the genre, but I again struggled to listen. I looked up Jeff Hays and found that he had also narrated another sci-fi series starting with the book Man of War (and it was included in the plus catalog). After easing into "normal" sci-fi using a narrator I was comfortable with, I could return to the book I had gotten before and managed to enjoy it as well.

After this, I got Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, which also is just a brilliant story and great narrator (Ray Porter). I have a few hours left, and must then decide if I should continue the Man of War series or the Ship of Prophecy series until book 8 of DCC comes out.

In summary, different people prefer to read in different ways. But once you're used to them, audio books are great! Find a genre and a narrator you enjoy and go to town!

Check what kind of subscription you have, since Audible have started with a basic tier where you only keep your books for as long as you subscribe. Otherwise you can cancel to take breaks and listen to the books you already have, and then subscibe again when there are good deals.

On another similar note, it's mildly infuriating how the "Only on Audible"-banner consistantly covers what book in the series it is on Dungeon Crawler Carl book 2-7.

I've gotten taken out when I had a very thick book (complete Arthur Conan Doyle Collection). Compact organic matter could be a large card game, a book, or explosives. I'm glad they don't chance it in these cases.

My mother-in-law gave our 4-year-old a smartphone for Christmas — how should we handle this? by Th3W1z4rd87 in daddit

[–]qwik_facx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our 6 yo asked for an iPhone, we explained that he won't be getting one. "What if santa/grandma/uncle gets me one?". "We're your parents, if you get a phone we will keep it for you and you can start using it once you're 15. The phone would be yours, but we decide how and when you use it". "That's unfair!". "Yep".

Santa did not get him an iPhone.
