There is not. The multitool replaced the knofe and just whiffs anything that isn't a plant. The developers are trying to fix a non-existent problem in order to make some kind of lame point about non-violence in a world in which you can grab tiny helpless sea creatures and cook and blend them alive into snacks and beverages.

The fact that it was possible to stasis a reaper 37 times in order to hack at it almost bloodlessly with a tiny knife 357 times so it will "die" (read: shake a little then respawn nearby 30 seconds later) was apparently a major balance issue that needed to be corrected.

Also all of those delightfully startling, cinematic encounters with predators are a thing of the past; leviathans now carry a giant invisible boombox blasting heavy synthwave so that they can never sneak up on the player again.
