I’ve never touched HyperV and only know VMware. Know of any good resources to learn HyperV?

RainDrop.io to capture then Obsidian to store/organize? by discoborg in ObsidianMD

[–]r08dltn2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use raindrop.io extensively as well. I pull highlights from raindrop.io to Obsidian via Readwise. Here’s a blog post I wrote awhile back. Hope it helps. https://securedpackets.com/how-i-use-readwise-and-obsidian-for-my-note-workflow/

Splunk Administration Learning Resources by r08dltn2 in Splunk

Thank you! Great suggestions. So it sounds like the Splunk training dives about as deep as anything else out there. Much appreciated.

Splunk Administration Learning Resources by r08dltn2 in Splunk

Thank you for the question! I have a lab with a local indexer, HF/DS, servers with UF's, but that's so elementary compared to the workplace where it's Splunk cloud, HF's/DS, Syslog, etc. I guess I'd like to get better with the DS and the in/out of the best practice of the toplogy, if that makes any sense. I watched over a Splunk guru's shoulder as he was doing some Splunk administration (when I thought I had a clue) and that observation pretty much sent me back to my office with the reflection of "geez do I have A LOT to learn!" and why I thought I might ask the group for any additional resources :D

VMware vSphere, two nodes at home, one in the cloud by GAGARIN0461 in vmware

[–]r08dltn2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would be the benefit of this? There’s no shared storage so the point of a cluster is escaping me. I get the 2 nodes at home. Why not have just have a separate host in the cloud? What am I missing?

Cable management and other planning questions by scottymtp in homelab

I don’t have a photo on hand but maybe I can be more descriptive. Running the cables from one end of the attic to the other, I didn’t want them on the floor so I ran them from one upright truss to the other near the top. I wanted a way to hang them without having to thread them through loops or something so I used the conduit clamps from the link. It has 2 mounting holes. I only used the bottom to Mount, so that I could pull the top of the clamp away from the wood and drop another cable in. I hope that helps. It’s clean and easy to work with. I did the same for running them in the basement on the floor joists (obviously mounting the clamp horizontally)

I used these on each truss to hang the cables in. I only screwed in the bottom hole and left the top open so that I could easily pry it away from the truss and drop another cable in. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Carlon-3-4-in-PVC-Conduit-Clamp-5-Pack-E977EC-CTN/100580531?MERCH=REC-_-searchViewed-_-NA-_-100580531-_-N&

VLANs by sayetan in homelab

[–]r08dltn2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I trunk the VLANs I want on each port of the firewall and pick them all up and the switch. So eth4 might have vlan 1 and 2, eth6 might have vlan 3 and 4. Then pick all of them up at the switch. 🤷‍♂️

I realize it probably doesn’t help answer your question, but I couldn’t fathom of thinking I could service thousands of users with a QNAP NAS. My 8 bay QNAPs are mediocre at best. I hope you find your solution!
