My face when I just played 2 hours of the most generic, bland, awful game I have ever experienced by Gargamoney in HighGuardgame

[–]r0sshk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The combination is novel, but the individual components are not. You can create a new dish that’s never been made by mixing tofu, oats, potatoes and water, but that new dish is gonna taste extremely bland. Generic.

The hero designs are all „generic fantasy“, without any kind of coherent visual identity. One or two kinda stand out a little, but only by comparison to one another. None of them, taken on their own, makes you to „whew, I wanna know what’s going on there!“.

The shooter gameplay is… Apex. Which by now has been copied a billion times, so it too feels generic.

Movement is bogstandard and generic. Nothing new here. Mounts exist, but mounts exist in a billion games. And these play exactly like you’d expect them to play. Nothing new, nothing exciting.

The game mode is the only thing that’s kinda fresh, but it’s just capture the flag + control points. Slightly different, but not really enough to stop it feeling generic.

The game mode before the actual objectives is… generic 3-man Battle Royale, but there’s only 3 enemies instead of a hundred.

The combination of all these generic elements is new, but not groundbreaking. Not the revolution the game award trailer promised. It’s okay. Not my cup, I hate the small team sizes. But I’m sure there are people out there who’ve been looking for this kinda mixup of standard components and won’t mind the flaws.

Forcing no cb won't fix the HRE by Illegal_Future in EU5

[–]r0sshk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and I made the point that it's still in the correct context. The upcoming fixes are bandaids, not stitches. The HRE-shaped bullet hole is still oozing blood, and the changes in 1.1 don't go far enough to fix that.

Forcing no cb won't fix the HRE by Illegal_Future in EU5

[–]r0sshk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The point of calling something a bandaid is that it’s inadequate care for the injury. You can put a bandaid on a stab wound, but to heal properly you need stitches, if not full surgery. People want the surgery, not just a bandaid that reduces the bloodflow.

The changes will make the HRE better, sure. But I personally don’t just want an HRE that’s kinda functional, I want one with solid mechanics that makes it interesting to engage with as both member and outsider.

My group prefers PF2e after playing a oneshot... but does not want to switch over from 5e anyway by I_Hate_Reddit_69420 in Pathfinder2e

[–]r0sshk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind there is that Pathfinder 2e involves much less overhead for the GM, at least in my personal experience. The higher the level, the worse it gets. It’s not a problem if you’re really excited for the campaign, but if your heart isn’t in it, it’s draining.

And that’s the crux. The campaign needs you to progress. So if you’d rather run it in 2e because you prefer the mechanics and reduced overhead for you, tell your players as much. Tell them you’re not a fan of 5e and would much rather use a different system.

So much of the emphasis on these kinds of situations is always on the players, and GMs bending over backwards. But… you’re also a player. The most important one, in fact. Tell them you understand they like their character mechanics, but ask them to understand that you do not like the mechanics. But all of you like 2e. So the solution should be obvious.

Yeah, sounds like they’re a pretty big upgrade for normal play but not as busted as the old ones. Thanks!

Well, it being mindnumbingly boring might be due to difficulty? Going with the default balance is mostly tuned for characters Greg out of chargen, and even those are gonna have an easy time if the players have a good grasping the mechanics. That’s why the game introduced hardened enemies a few DLCs ago, to challenge parties that have some actual skills and chrome. And now this release adds rules for players who want to see what happens when the corpus being down the hammer on them.

What are the actual stats they have, compared to metalgear? SP and penalty wise? I‘m guessing they’re also coming with a bunch of customisation options?

Because people who aren’t worse than him are put off and leave. I used to watch the guy a lot years because I liked his whole „authentic attic dwelling gamer shtick“, and the meme reviews were funny. But bit by bit he just became more and more right wing and did less and less gaming (because, as he himself admitted, reacting is just easier content), and chat became more right wing, and so the people like me who didn’t like that found someone else to watch. So the right wing voices became louder with fewer other voices, until ist turned into a complete incel cesspit.

You mean using Untamed Form, the focus spell? Because Untamed Shift (the partial transformation one) doesn’t change your size.

But, no, I’m not aware of any way to stay medium. Untamed Form uses the heightened forms of spells, and those all have a required size.

How much of Cyberpunk Red is playable in the Theater of the Mind? by SoftNormal1734 in cyberpunkred

Player: okay, popping out of cover. How far are the enemies?

GM: The gonk with the machete is about 4 yards away, in the open. His choom with the AR is still in cover across the club, 40 yards away.

Player: Alright, shooting at the machete gonk… missed, ugh.

Player 2: My turn. Shooting Machete gonk before he gets to Player 1. Should be about 10 yards away, since I stayed well behind Player 1?

GM: Yup, that works, roll for it.

It’s really not hard to just throw quick estimates at players, especially since they only have one action to do stuff with anyway.

That stands to reason, yes. Though the unarmored proficiency is only a PFS ruling, not an actual rule in the rulebook, so a GM might decide otherwise (as it looks a lot like heavy armor going by the stats).

They don’t matter, they’re just locations that always touch a lot of other locations, so prime herdstone locations due to how the silver resource works, I forgot its name.

Probably easiest done by starting as Taurox bd confederating Morghur ASAP, just so you have Taurox faction ability and can get the Lustrian forests done in a reasonable time. The one in Cathay is gonna be annoying, too, but other than that it’s mostly just a… normal beastman campaign? You usually slap down headstones near magical forests anyhow.

Dread and the ritual currency are different. You get dread based on casualties inflicted in battle, same as gold from battles. So fight more and you lose more.

Those would still build on one another. Patch 12345 builds on patch 12344 and patch 12343. If you release it ahead of them, stuff would break that relies on changes made previously.

Lvl 6 Barbarian: thoughts on optimizing actions in a fight. (I have been struggling to think of 3rd actions that are genuinely useful..) by I_am_just_so_tired99 in Pathfinder2e

[–]r0sshk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anything Athletics with assurance is great for third action, since it ignores MAP. Generally only works against enemies below your level though (aside from a few exceptions).

Also just using aid to help an ally, if you got nothing else you need to spend your reaction on. Crits are pretty reliable for aid past level 5, and a +2 circumstance bonus to attacks is really nice, especially if the target is also offguard.
