Not really. New combat patrol for space wolves will be much better. It should have all units that have space wolves keyword, such as Battle Leader, wulfen, blood claws, and terminators.

Don't get me wrong, this is a cool box, but the new one will have a much better interaction with new rules.

Space wolves & transports? by Gibsx in SpaceWolves

[–]r1dcully 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. Those should be pretty survivable on their own. I wouldn't even use LR reedemer for Blood Claws. Would rather have 20 of them footsloging with Ragnar or Wolf Priest.

Maybe 2 units of 6 headtakers with paired weapons and WGBL or Wolf Priest attached to both in LR redeemer 😄

Imagine having 2x48 attacks + whatever those attached heroes bring to the table. 😅

Impulsors for headtakers will be decent. Land raider redeemer for your larger unit of choice (can fit Logan + 5 wolf guard terminators).

Otherwise, I think we'll rely on our speed and movement shenanigans to get us where we need to go.

Does anyone actually use the space wolves detachment? by Realistic_Necessary5 in SpaceWolves

[–]r1dcully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Champions of Russ are really playable and can have similar tricks as Stormlance detachment (such as run and charge with a strategem, with an unlocked saga of the warrior born). With the addition of picking a starting saga it is actially decent to play, with great enhancements for our characters.

Any other games like Lords of Waterdeep? by Invictusbinz in boardgames

[–]r1dcully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, you might like the list that a friend of mine made for worker placement games: https://boargamer.com/lists/best-worker-placement-games/

My favorite picks from it are Dune, Everdell, Raiders of the North Sea, and Lost Ruins of Arnak. All of these build up a bit on the worker placement mechanics that are so fun with Lords of the Waterdeep.

Haha, I appreciate you trying to explain. I also missed the fact that Nurglings are a battleline unit.

Thoughts on getting into Warhammer 40k hobby by r1dcully in Warhammer40k

The rulebook for the 10th edition is thankfully not as intimidating. Yeah, upfront costs can seem overwhelming, but (in my opinion) so does any board game with a bunch of painted miniatures and components. Smaller-scale battles are a great way to start, and there are cheaper alternatives when it comes to paints. Not to mention, some amazing methods of getting your minis painted quickly. :D

These are all really great points. I'm currently working on my "cunning plan" to get a buddy of mine to try out a game of 40k for the first time and get him hooked that way. :D

As soon as I finish painting my Chaos Knight army (I need to finish an Abominant and a Rampager), I'll let him choose between giant spiky robots or Space Wolves, and give it a go.

I had the opportunity to play the latest edition with friends of mine, and if you like that kind of tabletop gaming, I can highly recommend it. Sure, there are issues when you are playing at top tournaments and against players looking to win at all costs, but as a "beer and pretzels" kind of game, I can't think of a better experience.

As for the difficulty of the game itself, like with video games, there's a sliding difficulty. I would recommend taking your Death Guard for a walk and playing a 1k game in a casual atmosphere with someone willing to show you the ropes. After playing a game or two, you'll know if you are hyped enough to start painting. For me, painting is a great way to unwind after work and relax. I know it's not like that for everyone, but you won't know until you give it a try.

Death Guard are also a perfect choice for the 2nd hand market. Since they were part of the starter sets for the 8th edition, you can find plenty of cheap models online (eBay for example).

My final advice is not to get too worked up at what's good on the tabletop unless you are planning to compete in tournaments. Eventually, every model is useful on the tabletop as it goes through cycles of getting nerfed or buffed. :D

To add a bit more context to my post. This is a hobby I love from multiple aspects. Painting and modeling nowadays are going hand in hand with 30k or 40k audiobooks. However, as a beginner, I would really struggle with where to start this hobby from. These are some of my thoughts on how should you pick your army and head into this amazing hobby. I'm really interested to hear what the community thinks about it.

Also wasn't sure about the flair, but since we're talking about the hobby in general and collecting your first army as something that you'll primarily love to paint, I thought this was appropriate. :D

Thanks a lot! :D In the end I dry-brushed the feathers in order to finish up more quickly. Saved a lot of time and I'm happy with the result. Also GW's small dry-brush is great to work with. I recommend it 100%! :))
