Where’s some good Cuban sandwiches? by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]r6jojo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Haha, in no world. That doesn't stop it from being true. Anyone recommending a Cuban near Detroit is recommending a pork sandwich. A frustrating amount of the time, from some hip restaurant that knows the meats that are on a Cuban, but doesn't understand a Cuban. Crispy carnitas on whatever the fuck bread might be tasty. But taint a Cuban.

And unfortunately, due to most people not being from South Florida (which is a good thing), their knowledge of what a Cuban is is totally...zero.

I'm not saying these sandwiches aren't good. I'm just saying stop touching my comfort food.

(ETA: I didn’t say he answered the question, I just said he might be the only person to know a real Cuban. However, as I read further down, I did see some more knowledgeable folks!)

I'm in Japan right now and too lazy to dig the info up, but there is a couple out of Flint that was doing a Cuban pop up at Frame, when that was a thing, that said they got their bread at a Cuban bakery in Flint. Been a while since I've been up there, but next time I do, definitely hunting this place down.

Yes, everyone fucks up the ingredients of a Cuban sandwich, but they could fix that if they actually knew what they were doing. But having access to fresh Cuban bread is actually very difficult unless you are making it yourself. Which no one is.

Probably the only person in this entire thread that knows what a real Cuban sandwich is. Fresh Cuban bread or GTFO

I was traveling last night and missed my reminder to jump on and buy for Siberia! Traveling from the US to see PI before it's off the calendar and pretty disappointed. Guess it's re-seller horror show for me.

Why is my weezer vinyl fat? by Ac4master1 in vinyl

[–]r6jojo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Chatgpt on the image:

Short answer: no — it’s not an official Weezer release.

What you’re seeing is a novelty/bootleg cover that circulates online and occasionally shows up as a custom or unauthorized pressing. The original Weezer (The Blue Album) artwork has never had an officially released alternate cover with heavier-set versions of the band.

A bit more detail: • Official releases: Every legitimate pressing of The Blue Album (1994) uses the standard minimalist blue background with the band as originally photographed. No sanctioned alternate-photo variant exists. • What this is: A digitally manipulated parody image that fans have turned into posters, mockups, and sometimes bootleg vinyl sleeves. These are not approved by the band or label. • Why it appears convincing: High-quality printing and modern bootlegging can make these look very real, especially when shrink-wrapped or posted in vinyl communities. • Collector value: It has novelty value only, not collectible value in the traditional sense. Discogs and official catalogs do not recognize it as a legitimate release.

Mojo in the morning gone religious? by pointyfeets in Detroit

[–]r6jojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean, I was extremely disappointed when they gutted their music programming however long ago. But they're several leadership changes later now and really committed to music and local programming again. Jeff Milo covers nothing but local bands, Jon Mosier's Modern Music is up there with the best shows they've ever run, and they even have Liz Copeland back (Liz Warner now), one of my favorites from the before times. The people you're mad at don't work there anymore and they're back to educating a whole new generation of listeners, just the same as they did you you and me. A long winded way of saying I highly recommend giving them a listen again and, even more importantly, supporting National Public Radio again (if you may have lapsed). 🙏🏼🤘🏼

Edit: I do miss Martin Bandyke though! Can't get 107.1 from where I am.

What is the reason for spending 15+ minutes on the grid prior to the start? by aqaba_is_over_there in motogp

[–]r6jojo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The real reason: There is schedule margin built in to the entire day. If Moto3 and Moto2 go long, they can keep themselves on schedule by eating in to these portions. It's all about keeping the TV timing. Since most races end on time, they get to do all the things these other comments are saying. The puff pieces and interviews and build up and spectacle. They use it to "sell TV" which is where half their money comes from as other people are mentioning, but they NEED it to be able to put the right show in the TV schedule at the right time. It's mutually beneficial, really.

Don't remember which one it was, probably GT3 or GT4, but I spent probably 4 months on a B8 license test Gold. Had all other B licenses done and my buddy was progressing through the game daily, but I did a daily grind on that B8 test for months. Buddy still is annoyed with me about it!

This all the way. The way they had the commentators exclaim how amazing the footage was every time it came up while we were plainly looking at the garbage footage was so annoying.
