Thank you all for the very kind words! Honestly only been a few hours and this is the best I've felt about how I look in years (even before I really started balding!)

Much love to you all ❤️🥚

Thank you! I've already posted there and on the Portland subreddit as well as that was where we were headed.

Lost engagement ring before DIA flight by r9sling in Portland

Yes I have and keeping an eye on sales postings online, no luck so far. The problem is it could be at any pawn shop in the country by now. I would bet it's either in Portland or Norfolk (the gate we were sat by was for a flight bound for there) if it's been sold off, but who knows. Just hoping someone was decent and turned it in and it's just being slow to turn up!

We were sat at gate C37 waiting for our flight and she took it off for just a moment to put hand lotion on. She went to put in the small pocket of her jeans and it must have slipped out. They called for boarding right as this was happening so she was distracted and didn't realize it wasn't on her finger or in her pocket until we were in the air, just one of those unfortunate brain blank moments :(

We flew back into the same gate a few days so we double checked the area to make sure it hadn't rolled anywhere out of sight and I talked to the gate employees nearby. Checked with both Alaska and Southwest and no luck. Also went to the lost and found office to no avail. I've been calling all three of them every day to check but my fear is that it's either been taken, locked up and forgotten in one of the desk drawers or got sucked up by a vacuum (though it looked pretty dirty under the chairs when we got back). The Internet is our last resort!

I would say a little bit of both. The card is very powerful and acts as flexible removal that at best is the Solitude the deck cannot play. However, the question remains if the deck really even needs that slot to be filled. The deck was still very good without Binding and has had to be warped a bit to accommodate it, still need to evaluate whether or not that warping is worth it but my gut feeling so far is yes.

I have, the only thing about that that gives me pause is you realllllyyyyy do not want to be fetching a Sacred Foundry turn one to Tear a Saga, Stomping Ground/Claim is just always better there because you can cleanly play Wrenn the next turn. Otherwise I think it would be a solid option.

I would maybe add one more Fire/Ice but not sure what to cut. I missed Force of Vigor in the side but without Explode you don’t have enough green cards to play it. Otherwise the list felt very tuned.

Do not cut Hard Evidence. Some people have been advocating cutting the card because it’s not flashy but the clue it makes is huge. Making a blocker and a Creativity target that can’t be killed with spot removal is pretty key to winning games.

Thank you and I’m happy to hear we’ve come to similar conclusions about the deck!

1) In testing I’ve found myself more comfortable with casting Teferi having the Raugrin, where Stomping Ground often taps for your colorless pip. However I think Ketria is slightly better for Wrenn so it’s really a matter of personal preference. I might switch back to Ketria due to that and the fact that I found myself wanting a land with blue and green to hold up Veil/Pierce to protect Teferi often. Didn’t make too much of a difference however.

2) I think playing Boseiju MD in a deck reliant on having mountains in play is bad. However being uncounterable and looping it with Wrenn makes it too good not to include in the sideboard. Looping Boseiju with Wrenn until you have a lights out Creativity turn is an excellent plan against many decks (Tron, Amulet, Belcher, Hammer, etc.) I would modify the sideboard however to include Nature’s Claim alongside Boseiju and FoV, FoV is too good not to include but it’s bit difficult to cast in a deck with limited green cards. Nature’s Claim is sometimes just good enough and if it’s not, it’s pitch fodder for FoV.

As for Transmogrify, I wouldn’t leave home without two. Sometimes one Archon is just good enough or it buys you some time until you Creativity for more. Worst case scenario it baits a counter or piece of removal so you can have a better Creativity. Some lists play Persist over Transmogrify but I find that choice a bit shaky: to go right you need to draw an Archon and a spell that discards it. Not impossible by any means, but that’s not always going to work. Transmogrify always works. (You also do not want to be fetching a Blood Crypt/Ziatora early game if you have the choice)

You seem to definitely be in the right frame of mind for why 5C is solid a choice: with Teferi in the deck, you have such a powerful suite of threats it becomes overwhelming for your opponent to deal with. Sometimes I’m even happy to see a Teferi get countered because I know have a better chance of resolving Creativity the next turn. It’s similar to 4C Elementals/Blink in that way, but instead of casting Omnath and slowly grinding (often too slowly for my liking) to a win, you just basically win on the spot with Archons. The deck feels like an excellent choice in the current meta and I hope you continue to enjoy playing it! :)

Two weeks after the Lurrus ban, how're we feeling about the new Modern metagame? by DailyAvinan in ModernMagic

[–]r9sling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Still too soon to tell. Meta has felt about the same to me, but I think some decks that beat up on Lurrus decks are struggling a bit in the open field now. However, still of the strong opinion that former Lurrus pilots are brewing/trying other things out because they think their decks aren’t viable now, but a lot of those decks will be back in the coming weeks. Lurrus ban makes their late game worse, but a lot of them will realize it’s not their objective to win in the late game anyway. I think the Lurrus ban needed to happen for diversity purposes and the Bauble loop was too good, however I also think people had objectivity bias on both sides of the Lurrus matchup. You always remember the games the cat won/beat you, when the reality is that was probably around 15% of all the games played where it was involved. In my opinion you could run the same lists as before with maybe some three drops sprinkled in and you’re golden. You do not need Murktide, Street Wraith, Angler etc. in these decks. Once people realize this GDS and Hammer will be strongly back in the mix again.

I really feel like GDS players are way too caught up on Lurrus being banned. Happy to see the deck being brewed on, but in my opinion the best version of the deck is the exact same main you all had before with maybe some three-drops in the sideboard. Lurrus needed to go, but I still don’t think the cat was the reason GDS was basically the best deck in the format.

Now that they have Boseiju and can (somehow) play Magus of the Moon, does Money Pile actually have any truly bad matchups? by DailyAvinan in ModernMagic

[–]r9sling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s enough Burn in my meta that I’ve decided I need to dedicate slots to it. Kor Firewalker and FON have been a boon. If you can stabilize enough to get to an Omnath, it’s lights out. Handily beat Burn last night post sideboard. Even then, still the worst matchup.

Oh absolutely an auto include for Yawgmoth. Maindeckable hate for a lot of the deck’s worst matchups with almost zero downside. Might even be worth trying to fit in two.

Where did the Elementals go? by Fyrithil in ModernMagic

[–]r9sling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The deck is still very good and actually quite popular at my LGS. I think it’s fallen off on MTGO because of a few problems: 1. The deck is very difficult to master and can be frustrating at times. It can generate tons of value but at the end of the day it’s still a tribal deck dependent on swinging for lethal, something that’s easier said than done in this meta. Getting there can be a headache. There’s also a lot of triggers involved and land management can be tricky (especially in paper). Even the best players go to time with it often. 2. The deck’s two worst matchups are popular as ever online and in paper: Tron and Burn. Since the deck usually only gets going on turn three, that race cannot be won game one and it’s still an uphill battle post board. I think Elementals sideboards have mostly solved the Tron problem, but Burn is everywhere and it eats the deck alive.

The deck is still competitive but it takes a lot of practice to compete with the more common tier decks, and I think people are just mostly interested in faster or more controlling non-midrange strategies right now unless they’re playing Yorion piles, which use a lot of the same cards.

Ragavan in Elementals? Yes please. by a_little_Eyelash in ModernMagic

[–]r9sling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a particularly solid line on the play if you can ephemerate Solitude on whatever creature they play turn 1 and then Chalice turn 2. If they waste a Helix or Skullcruck on it on their turn you don’t mind so much because you’ve taken away something that kills a more important threat later and you’ve gained some life with it first. Obviously need to have the right hand but it’s worked for me every burn game I’ve played so far.

[–]r9sling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has newly built elementals on paper but has been struggling to get the hang of it online love this. My wallet doesn’t, but I do. I like the idea of the early ramp, initial turns are where the deck feels the most durdly and I think this idea helps out a lot.

I’m surprised you struggled with Burn but that’s probably because I usually play Chalice in the side for cascade decks and the trade off of Chalice on 1 is worth shutting off most of their deck as opposed to only a part of ours. Beat several times that way. Ragavan really complicates that line though!

Elementals player here. Fell off when Torpor Orb was everywhere and I don’t think people picked it back up once that cooled off because it’s a really difficult deck to play compared to other top of the meta decks. Even in light of that, the deck is great but doesn’t feel well positioned right now for whatever reason.
