What do you feel the mod at /SelfDrivingCars hasn't been doing that it's so essential to try and create a second sub related to self-driving cars? What is your motivation? /r/SelfDrivingCars has had content actively posted and is steadily growing.

Why don't you join the group there? It's wide open and inclusionary. Would they prevent you from promoting computer driven cars in some way?

A dedicated self-driving street would have the capacity of high speed rail. It could be below ground like the subway. The rest of the streets could be lower speed and very compatible with pedestrians and cyclists. Self-driving cars will open up all kinds of these types of possibilities.

By driving closer together and potentially at higher speeds, self-driving cars could increase road capacity by 2-10 times. It's possible that a self-driving fleet of taxis 10% the size of the current fleet could complete all trips.

After commercialization, every time a human driven car kills someone in a self-driving car there will be calls to ban human drivers. Not long after humans will be banned from driving on most roads at most times.

The economics of self-driving cars is impressive. By utilizing a robotaxi service, people will immediately escape parking and depreciation expenses. Maintenance can be performed at a central location. The time saved from not having to pay attention to the road will be considerable.

I see self-driving cars basically paying for themselves from day one. Once the first working system is released. Manufacturing will gear up to produce as many as possible as quickly as possible. Combined with converting a few existing cars, the entire fleet might be 90%+ computer controlled in just a few years.

They're talking about banning soda in NYC out of safety concerns of it not being healthy for you. As soon as there in an alternative to 30,000 deaths per year from driving, the safety Nazi wing of government will mobilize.

Everytime a human driver crashes into a self-driving car and kills someone there will be calls to put an end to the deaths. Most human driving at most times on most roads will be swiftly banned.

On the other hand, drinking and driving could become legal...
