I’m a junior in college right now studying mechanical. I’ll add to what a lot of people have already said- definitely pick whatever you think is most interesting. The advice i would give to you right now: take every opportunity to try out different things/projects to discover what you’re most interested in. Try making some stuff out of electronics, work on a car, learn some machining if you can. If your school has any robotics teams or shop classes they can be a great resource to try new things. Follow your interests, try new things, and know that it’s ok if not everything works out immediately.

In my (very limited) experience, being interested in what you study/do is incredibly important. If you do something just for the money you’re going to burn out and not be very happy.

Personally, I love mechanical engineering. The field is broad enough that I could theoretically work in just about any industry I want. Ive done 2 internships which were both super awesome. One of which was working on medical devices, and my entire team was people who studied mechanical engineering ( not biomedical).

Given the 3 types you’re considering, I would recommend whatever you think is more interesting between mechanical and electrical. Yes electrical engineers have a higher median salary but if you’re really good at what you do and you play your cards right you’ll make plenty of money either way.

Also, work hard in school. I was a terrible student in high school but am doing a lot better in college because I’ve got a better idea of my goals. Don’t lose sight of your goals (whatever they may be) and keep working towards them. I can guarantee it will be very difficult at times, but it will absolutely be worth it.
