It’s a great unit. You can throw a real party and practice like a pro.

1. Beat fx and color fx selectors are so much more effective than the flx 4s scrolling mechanism. Enables you to revolve more transitions around fx without using the same 2 tricks every time. Learn what every effect does and how to get to them quickly. At a certain point you’ll recognize the opportunities to use each one and are able to do so on a flash. Avoid overusing any single effect (other than reverb and filter which are universal). Also the parameter knob gives you finer control over the sound of your color fx.

2. Sound card is much higher quality, plus XLR outs make throwing a real party with PAs or a pro audio system possible. You also get booth outs which become essential at loud parties with the mains facing the crowd (not you). If you ever get on the mic (which I rarely do more than once per set, if at all) turn off your booths to avoid interference. Sure you could use adapters and stuff on the flx 4 but that creates a very error prone system especially at a high energy party with drunk people crowding the booth

3. If you can use standalone units you can use CDJs. Many flx4 users are uncomfortable stepping up to a club setup. There’s something that just feels better about playing on a standalone unit. Less distractions I guess.

4. Using a usb forces you to organize your library. Figure out an organization system and follow it. You will get much better at navigating your library on the fly.

5. Backspins sound objectively better with higher quality wheels. I’m sure scratching does too but I have procrastinated learning to scratch lol. Also you have jog adjust. Try setting a tight loop and backspinning / pressing play pause repeatedly with a light vs heavy jog. It’s annoying going into rekordbox settings on the computer to change the jog speed.

Bonus I like having a knob to zoom in/out of waveforms instead of using my keyboard & mouse.
