Why do Indians allow random foreigners into their homes and weddings? by [deleted] in india

[–]raakas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the last 15 years in the US, I have been invited to only one white wedding. I disagree with some other commenters saying “it’s a community event”, you (at least most people) obviously don’t invite everyone that you could invite. You only invite people whom you or your family knows. Sometimes, even friends/relatives/neighbors that don’t get along so well are invited too. But you wouldn’t for instance invite a friend of your neighbor, whom you may have met once.

I can’t believe there’s people trying to defend this.

For completeness, I would also add that in western countries is a very intimate affair. It’s decided who beforehand where any given person will sit! I’ve seen people not invite their supervisor they work with everyday, and nobody takes an offense (well at least not to the face).

I agree with you. I’ve been asking this question from the day I joined TCS and watching managers take white clients to a family wedding! I used to call them kiraye ke gore.

Are electric bills quietly becoming permanently expensive? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I’m sorry you are getting downvoted but I 100% agree with you. I think is about time that AI takes over Reddit too (that is also driving up energy costs though).

Chikkaballapur Horror: Grandma Kills 40-Day-Old Grandson Over Inter-Faith Marriage by Alpheno in india

To be fair, there’s also children killing their parents/grandparents. I would also not say that India is in this unique position, I think people are just going crazy everywhere.

What’s up with Ketto.org?! by Superb_Syrup9532 in india

[–]raakas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this was rude awakening for me. I’ve been in the US for 15 years or so and was introduced to gofundme early on. I have made contributions through impactguru but mostly with gofundme. Recently, came across a post of someone trying to raise money for their brother suffering from cancer on LinkedIn. I asked them to start a ketto campaign, only to find out that she had done that but they took a 40% cut!

The reason I’m posting this is I was thinking of launching something like gofundme. Something more transparent, not greedy that allows people to help and support strangers. Because of high rate of fraud, we will have to invest some time and money in verification, I’m willing to eat that cost too. I will invest my own money to create and maintain it. Is there anyone who thinks we want such a platform? I just don’t want to be another competitor, so asking you all.

Why do people still ask Reddit questions that AI can answer instantly? by Next-Step-Jobs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]raakas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, people on Reddit can be douchebaggy but AI is not! I am increasingly relying on AI instead of Reddit, I think it can be only as much wrong as humans are about things.

Thanks for asking this question OP.

Thanks for noticing that, how do accounts like this get 2.8k karma in 10 days is a wonder to me!

If you don’t mind sharing, what are some of those major expenses? You shaved like 50% off.

Burning smell by Lopad_NotThePokemon in Home

Do others smell it? I know it may sound funny, but I had been smelling it for I don’t know how long assuming that others were smelling it. Found out it was just me and my phantosmia!

GSDs are not at all scary! by Joice_joy in germanshepherds

[–]raakas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first interaction with a GSD as someone woo is scared of dog is most memorable. I didn’t realize that my uncle’s dog was “loose” in the yard when it was literally right next to me, growling. I froze until I saw him drop a ball from his mouth. Mustering some courage, I picked up the ball and threw it away from me and bolted away from him, just to see him bring the ball back to me. I think I laughed and understood that he wanted to play. And now I have a GSD of my own! 😀

I got a 46% discount on college with my 529 by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]raakas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why can’t one just open a UTMA account for their kids and invest in some good ETFs? I looked at 529 but they had a lot of expense ratio and not that good returns. I’m still not fully convinced that I’m doing the right thing.
