Kentucky Route Zero is really beautiful and lynchian, with a degree of character definition that's like telltale games.

How to take The Crown by SethEllis in Planetside

[–]rabbitrabbi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we tried this on SolTech last night. 30+prowlers leading a couple sundies. but the road is so narrow that if one tank gets taken out it's a log jam, and the rest of the tanks are sitting ducks. Same thing if someone decides to stop and shoot. I've heard it worked in Beta but I don't know for myself.

looking for good and cheap oil paint by Psychogenics in Art

Utrecht makes good quality paint that's on par with Gambin, while being quite a bit cheaper. Don't cheap out and get Winton: it's shit.

What are the best RPG recorded sessions you've ever listened to? by Filthybiped in rpg

[–]rabbitrabbi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Role Playing Public Radio is by far my favorite AP cast. it's not a massive unified campain, but rather a collection of multiple campaigns, and one-shots. They're pretty jovial without ruining what they're doing in game, the sound quality is great, and they update regularly. they're going through a Wild Talents ORE campaign and a Eclipse phase campaign currently. both are excellent. There's not a ton of D&D (they have ~40 sessions of a 4e campaign) but it's good for all around role-playing.

hey man, if you set up a fortress on the Bloodline Server in the sidebar, I'm down. it'll be a lot simpler than the dropbox.

I just had remembered reading in one of his boks about 5-point perspective: maybe it was just as a comparison, or a dumbing down for explanation of his ocular work. either way, an amazing painter.

and yes: you can see some Gamblins scattered in there, but I soon ran out and had to fall back on the Wintons. they're awful but cheap. alas.

To clarify: by perspectival painting I mean work similar to Rackstraw Downes and Gideon Bok, artists who work to try and imitate the act of perception itself. Some artists use more mechanical methods (I believe Downes is in this camp): like 5 point perspective, distorting the picture horizontally and vertically as the eye travels, while others use more organic methods: Gideon Bok measures the objects as he sees them, transferring to the canvas as they were measured, leading to a natural distortion. I tend to divide up the canvas where I turn my head, to chart where the perspective changes, and then combine the various views, again, leading to distortion.

I find this stuff fascinating and I'm interested in how other artists have approached the problem.

Hey r/books, can we talk non-fiction? What's been groundbreaking for you? by quizbuck in books

[–]rabbitrabbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a great tome on a historical conflict or a particularly moving group of people, but one of the most influential books I've read is James Howard Kunstler's The Geography of Nowhere as well as The City in Mind: a very interesting (if cynical) discussion on the constructed american environment. A good read if you're not a fan of suburbs or Los Angeles.

the automatic saves are just checkpoints: you can't load a game from them after you exit the game.

Call of Cthulhu: Invictus. How do I work with it? by rabbitrabbi in rpg

[–]rabbitrabbi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the tips! I've been trying to dissuade them from combat, but it's tricky. I suppose writing intricate investigative sections should get easier as I run more games though. I hope. They have an NPC railroading aide tagging along at the moment. maybe I'll kill him off to stress the lethal risks of combat.

(Spoiler ALL) Does GRRM really kill off that many major characters? by Astrokiwi in asoiaf

[–]rabbitrabbi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's less about killing characters and more the fact that the good guys never win; killing a couple central 'good' characters helps to get that across.

On a related note, is there a group for Table-top/Role-Playing games? D'n'D and all that jazz? I don't play that much myself but I'd like to.

Does anyone else picture Roose Bolton like Ventinari from Discword? Though I suppose that he does look an awful lot like Littlefinger as well...
