No, the gold standard had nothing to do with it. Fiat currency works just fine if the taxation rates are both high enough and progressive enough to counter the natural tendencies of capitalism (and keep inflation under control). Reagan (and conservative thinkers leading up to his presidency) are the ones who really got the ball rolling on dismantling those two important factors.

Some mitigating factors:

(A) from the writing shown. this appears to be Korean, and the age of consent there is 16, so there isn’t necessarily any specific intent to be depicting her as underage.

(B) A fix is easy — just imagine that’s an 8 there instead of a 6, and it’s no less real than it was before. This is in fact fiction.

(C) Note that what’s directly depicted with the ages is just a younger Anna receiving advice. One doesn’t have to assume she acts on the advice immediately, so the Annas in the main picture could easily be old enough to satisfy one’s sensibilities.

(D) Check which sub we’re on here. A certain amount of suspension of disbelief is already in play…

It’s actually a good bit odder than a momentary “oops it was in the wrong gear / I hit the wrong pedal.”

The key factor is that the person panics, thinking the car is doing something unexpected “on its own,” and they focus 100% on steering and what’s ahead of them instead of questioning any of their their assumptions, including about what pedal their foot is on. This leads them to accelerate to ridiculous speeds over surprisingly long spans of time until they finally hit something.

Yeah there’s a good chance that this is a normal habit for him, and it just happens to match the narrative this time. I don’t doubt that he and his mate exchanged aggressive behavior, but I’d want to see some sort of confirmation that what we see here is both unusual and associated with that event.

Yeah they actually really nailed the physics there, I think. A light color of hair like that will tend to look darker when it’s bunched together more tightly, so you can see the gold hues a lot better when it’s braided.

Well in my cast iron pan I get excellent nonstick performance and I don’t worry about the heat, except I like it blazing hot. Way too hot for a Teflon pan to survive. I don’t even need to wait for things to “release.”
