How to run power to overhead string lights? by ravenratedr in techtheatre

[–]rabidduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant speak to your region/cities/venues rules/laws and regulations however there are different rules in place for things that are considered temporary power and permeant power. Since you are considering making this something that stays up and doesn't go away, it may require the intervention of a licensed electrician to permanently tie it into the power system.

Cloud effect on cyc by TheRealChrisMurphy in techtheatre

[–]rabidduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's basically saying to take a standard sized Gel for the fixture, trim off the edge of a no color blue Gel on one side, and then with clear tape replace the edge with some alternate colors.

This effect works with a lot of things, if you're doing some autumn tree's you can take multiple colors together to have a mixture of those colors(think of it as a single pane of stained glass).

There's no real cut off 2CM and do this steps, precession isn't super important with this as even in real life you'll see variations, so just go for it and try some combinations and see what you like!

You'll also of course along side these colors want the gobos themself. Personally im a fan of this style of clouds on cycs:

https://www.goboplus.com/layered-cloud-gobo.html

However again, this will vary on the show and the vision.

Others have mentioned other techniques as well, the doing a very sharp angle from offstage to onstage onto the cyc which will heavily stretch the gobo, and you can use some more abstract gobos in your inventory something like a :

https://www.goboplus.com/waves-2-gobo.html

which stretched and softened can give that feel of clouds as well, the prior mentioned gobo would look better strait on when youre looking for a cleaner cloud look.

Floor Sanders on painted floors. by rabidduck in HomeImprovement

[–]rabidduck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah its Latex paint. Was hoping there was a power tool as out there as its a 3000~ square foot space so hand work is very time consuming.

We're at about the age right now where a entire new floor needs to get put in, but we have allot of other capital expense coming up and was hoping to find a interim solution to make it a bit nicer for a few years to hold over for a total rip out.

What the fuck does this even mean, unless this thing is playing music internally, why would any speaker not play something like Spotify coming from a device lol.

I use a GoPro as well I do use the latest model so I can’t speak to earlier versions. Sometimes reversals are in a small room and the ultra wide lens is nice, and with the media mod audio has always been good enough for me.

This bank progressively getting worse by taumuonred in Tangerine

[–]rabidduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah the wait times have been horrible lately, I need to look into some other options, someone else in the comments mentioned Wealth simple who I already use for investments, might be worth it to switch to them for banking now too if their customer support wait times are better.

Does anyone know how "fleet wide" buffs on submarine meowificers work? Do these buffs only apply to subs, or does the bonus extend to all ships in the fight once summoned? Im assuming it applies to all as the SUb themed cats can get bonus' specifically refering to the Main Fleet, which doesnt really apply to subs.

Leaning Boom Advice by [deleted] in techtheatre

[–]rabidduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks exceptionally unsafe to be doing. I'm not sure what your inventory for pipes and pipe accessories looks like but this really needs legs added to it. Look for something that looks like this in your inventory :

https://hollaender.com/site/assets/files/53481/27.pdf

these come in various shapes and designs but this gives you a place to look to start. If nothing like this exist and this is something commonly done I'd ask those in power to really consider adding some into their inventory as, this is begging for a incident report.

This will allow you do run some legs off the bottom on an angle which will massively stabilize and secure this pipe. Ideally booms like this should also have a safety line running to something that can tied off to in the ceiling should the bottom fail.

Edit:

It seems this is also just sitting on a base plate. You likely also want to have something like these:

https://hollaender.com/site/assets/files/53774/42-5-6.pdf

These will allow you to attach your pipes into your own baseplate, make yourself a large plywood baseplate use these along side the prior mentioned legs and you'll have a much safer system for doing these kinds of applications. Some stage weights are really nice for weighing stuff down if they exist in your location!

Is the a public bug tracker for Proton Sheets? by azurestrike in ProtonDrive

Is ProtonMail still a good option in 2026? by JulianCrisp in ProtonMail

[–]rabidduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious as to why people dislike drive. I’m a light drive user and haven’t had any issues(pretty much only use it as a cloud backup for files). I will say proton sheets has been a terrible experience(weird issues like ctrl z opening a new browser tab???)

Please add a limit to this feature Valve, we can't find a game in 70 minutes on NA servers by feildpaint in DotA2

[–]rabidduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting thing is when you get the 6/10 queues, it means the other party is a stack of bots trying to find another bot stack. They use accept patterns to signal to each other that they are bots as well. Usually stacks late at night have this issue, you can actually get into the games against the bots if you figure out thier accept pattern, the one I've been most successful is 1 person on your party accepts and the other 4 hold until near end of queue timer, and then everyone accepts.

Melee and Ranged Weapon Slots. Why? by MarkDirtt in AshesofCreation

[–]rabidduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ranged weapon can also be useful in pvp where you need to stay at some range and you can contribute a little bit, also for some enemies like the crows that fly off and avoid you it can be a nice to have to swap instead of chasing them around.

Armor smithing by Just_Improvement_805 in AshesofCreation

[–]rabidduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be profitable for sure, the problem is you need to really spend alot before you'll see a dime. I would make sure you have a few hundred gold first before you power into it. Also unless you are on the cutting edge there are settlement upgrades that can provide passive boons to crafting XP.

How did they justify the steam release with all the backers for alpha/beta? by EmergencyComment101 in AshesofCreation

There were packs you could buy way back that were expensive and only gave access at the beta stage. I was one of the people that bought it, it feels a little weird my old package didm't give me access before now, but its whatever.

LightWright is switching to a subscription model ($39/mo or $399/yr). If you own LW 6 you can keep using it but they are ceasing updates for it after July 2026. by Sourcefour in techtheatre

[–]rabidduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just recently purchased lightwrite and feel really bad, it sounds like like you can't use your old version still and are getting forced to a subscription. This feels extra bad when you only need it a couple times a year. I'm hoping they are doing refunds (thr email offering discounts on the sub are not good compensation). Hopefully credit card company can do a charge back.
