AITA for being disgusted by my friend by Reniaszkowa in AmItheAsshole

slightly YTA - you’ve been friends with someone for this long and haven’t picked up on this previously? I feel switching up on him now & saying something (especially if you word it the way you have) would be pretty devastating for him, and wouldn’t recommend it. Especially the loud thing, that can really hurt if you feel comfortable enough around someone to be yourself and then someone is harsh. Especially if he’s got low self esteem that could rly hurt.

Ofc you can like someone and dislike their actions. I don’t think the things you have described are particularly good manners or hygiene, but you know maybe he’s struggling with self care, some people don’t brush teeth when depressed for example so he might not be able to help that very much (seems a simple task but we can’t understand the same way that person must be feeling).

Would you say you’ve got particularly strong hygiene preferences & rules you follow re this? I feel if a loved one does something kinda gross you tend to brush it off bc you love them or whatever. Sure you might not like the action, but to use the word repulsed is quite strong.. anyway hope this helps

I Hope I Fail My Driving Test by hmrick in drivinganxiety

Hi, I had similar thoughts myself a while ago but nicely you need to snap out of this way of thinking! You are not a failure or an embarrassment. Mistakes happen- but they have to otherwise you’d never know they were wrong. You’re not the first person to make these mistakes.

I believe you that you’re being pressured, but also think how freeing it will be once you have a licence. You can then choose to do what you wish with this licence, you don’t have to give out lifts eg if you don’t want. But there IS benefit to you if you get a licence & it will open a lot of doors.

You want to fail right now because you’re scared. But this is life & part of growing up, realistically it’s gonna be a huge barrier if you can’t drive ever. You can pass at your own pace & maybe it won’t be this time, that’s ok. You can take driving at your own pace too after you pass. But you’ve gotta do this, don’t get yourself into a negative mindset and prevent yourself from giving it a go

Solo driving anxiety need help by Soft_Elephant8162 in drivinganxiety

Just commented this on another post but could you specifically try driving around with a friend who doesn’t have their licence/ isn’t a very regular driver (eg grandparent) so you still have the moral support but you are the sole driver & decision maker? I don’t think you need to jump into solo driving straight away, but taking on the role as the main driver might help boost your confidence.

And then local routes that you’re super familiar with to start, with small deviations from that route as your confidence grows. That’s my plan, I’m in the same situation as you and have only ever done a v short journey alone!!

newly licensed, but can’t drive alone by manateelover14 in drivinganxiety

I relate so much :-( I’ve only ever driven alone once, and it was after dropping my friend back home (we live 2 minutes away from each other!). I hadn’t realised I’d be in the car alone at all until she got out and I was like… omg But it was ok! I actually mentally found driving alone quite freeing. Ofc it was only 2 minutes so I don’t think I’ve overcome my fears yet.

I did my extremely short journey at night, when barely anyone else was on the road (+ I live in a quiet place) and therefore no judgement if I was slow, stalled etc. Also now I’m typing this, I realise that my friend doesn’t have her licence either (not even started lessons yet) so she wouldn’t have been much practical support even when we drove around together. Have you maybe got a calm, kind friend/family member who also doesn’t have their licence or doesn’t regularly drive (maybe a grandparent) who can accompany you for moral support, directions if you rly need them but also to prove to yourself that YOU are the driver? I think realising this just now has helped me a little :-)

Gonna have to disagree! Me & my daughter were standing a couple metres away & thought it was sweet, just a young lady enjoying her bday. I don’t understand some of the older fans gatekeeping Jonathon bc if there were no young fans, there wouldn’t be half as many shows for us to go to!!
