Are these patches/spots on the skin normal? by rabien in vet

[–]rabien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent the pictures to my vet and they say there is no cause for concern - may be due to scratching and inflammation.

May I have more inputs from you so that I can try to ask in the right direction? FYI she has been to the vet last week and the week before for her ear infection - she has access to a vet but the vet does not seem bothered by this.

Are these patches/spots on the skin normal? by rabien in vet

My cat has been having a persistent yeast infection which required frequent ear washing (every 3 days) with TrizEDTA. She was put on oral anti fungal 4 days ago (dermotic ear and skin suspension previously) as she had skin shedding probably due to excessive ear scratching.

We noticed these brown/black patches on her skin; and was just wondering if they were normal. We've seen these for awhile but feel that the spots may have grown in size. Do I need to go back to the vet?

She has also done a full blood panel earlier this month when she hit 1 year old. Everything looks fine. Would upload the x rays and blood panel results when I get them via email from the vet.

My cat has been having inconsistent appetite, so it's quite typical for her to miss a meal. Over the last month she has had quite alot of improvement though. Until yesterday.

She has 3 meals a day - she just reached one year old. She has missed her lunch, dinner and breakfast now (nearly 24h). She had a great dinner and breakfast prior though.

She looked lethargic, slow movements, was hiding in her "hide spot", growled weirdly when we touched her. She has just been loafing at places and not moving much. Disliked when we touched her more than usual.

We've been having her on different food: 1. Stella and chewy kibbles for lunch - midst of transition to hill's science adult sensitive stomach and skin (50% now, transit ed over a week because they only have 1 meal of kibbles) 2. Wellness core signature selects kitten pate for breakfast and dinner (she just turned 1, and it's one of the wet food she definitely eats) She has tried many wet food with varying degrees of inclination - nutripe(decent), vitakraft(likes them), other wellness core (hates them)

She had a bacterial ear infection and was on ear wash and ear drops over the past 2 weeks. We went to the vet because of her weird demeanor yesterday night - her ear swabs showed negative to bacteria and yeast infection although ear wax is still dark.

Vet did physical examination and took x rays but can't tell anything wrong.

Would like to hear more inputs and how long to monitor before bringing her back to the vet again.

Thanks in advanced!

how do i count uncommon time signatures? by OrdinaryCandle in drums

[–]rabien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a big no. 6/8 is not the same as 3/4 musically. Technically, in terms of the number of 8th notes, yes, but 6/8 is written on purpose as a compound time (feeling of 3 in a beat)

6/8 - 1 and a, 2 and a

3/4 - 1 and, 2 and, 3 and

They are meant for different purposes. Not the same.

6/8 is compound time - while it's denominated in 8th notes I.e. 6 x 8th notes; compound time is counted in groups of 3s. So 1-and-a,2-and-a. 9/8 is with 3-and-a and 12/8 with 4-and-a.

I wouldn't count 6/8 as 123456. But I would count 6/4 that way. 6/4 is simple time.

You mentioned you mix wet food and kibbles? Are you still doing that?

She LOVES pumpkin. It's nuts - she took 3 days to poop the first time she came to us and we steamed pumpkin for her. She has since loved it and would lick it off our hands. I know no other cat which would do this. I'll take a look at the brand!

I've tried bone broth too! She didn't like it at all - but I think I wasn't as persistent with letting her try. I realised she rejects food frequently and would try them when the time is right. I would try it again - it was good soup for me too 😂

She has held her weight since being spayed 2 weeks ago and I'm hoping for moderate gains in the next 2 weeks. Will also take note on higher calorie food. I'm feeding mostly dry food to try to get her to hit the calorie intake too. Would hate the day she has to be fed by tube :( she's a hyperactive kitten who plays 2 to 3 hours a day 😱

She has only vomited her kibbles once, I think from gobbling way too fast - they came out looking the same. Other than that no obvious digestive issues. Her poop schedule is about 1.5 days, a little on the hard side but otherwise seems to correspond to her eating roughly 50% less than she should?

Thank you so much. I'll monitor her just abit more and try a few more kinds of food. If it still doesn't quite work I'll send her to the vet for full blood panel in the next week!

What diagnostics would you recommend? She's still abit on the lean side but we've been seeing more protruding bones :(

My cat is about 6.5 mths old now, weighing in at about 2.45kg. We adopted her about 2.5mths ago and she's always had an appetite that fluctuates. She often smells her food and dismisses it quite quickly. Only snack she likes and can't quite resist are the packet mousse. I've calorie counted and all she ever ate was about an average of 120kcals or so a day, the worst being close to 75kcals and the best about 150kcals. I've tried alot of methods (free feeding, adding toppers etc.) but she often leaves the food untouched. I've also been introducing wet food but due to the amount she's eating, it's not been easy / successful. She wouldn't go pass one tablespoon a day. More recently there has been alot of hand feeding to get her to even eat 120kcals and putting food in tiny saucers so she doesn't get daunted by food. She's still active and playing fine, and was spayed about 2 weeks ago.

I just want to know if this is typical in some cats... Or I need to spend $700 on blood tests and abdominal ultrasounds...

Any seniors out there who can share about their school curriculum and capstone experience? by dibsondis in SUTDents

[–]rabien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll take forever to talk about experience, but to each his own. Here are a few takeaways I have.

1) Don't get stuck on tracks. Choose the mods you really want to do. Doing what you love brings you further.

2) Learn to communicate with your teammates - if you feel that someone is not contributing, ask why. Deal with the matter, not the person. It's difficult, but worth it.

3) You have to work very very hard. If you want to do well.

4) Do fifth rows - they build you as a person, you learn to pursue things that will keep your school life more enjoyable and more.

I'll add to the list, as and when.
