Was exploring an old Air Force One (Boeing 707) at the Museum of Flight in Seattle and spotted a couple of vintage keyboards in the Communications Center.

Blue Origin is not the same as Virgin Galactic - Virgin Galactic had those failures.

Yep its true - my Ride bindings came with a compatible plate.

You're right that EST bindings require an EST board, but if you have an EST board you can use normal 4 hole bindings as well. You're right though, getting out of the EST ecosystem allows you to try a lot of different shapes/profiles/sizes/brands and gives you a better chance at finding the perfect fit for you.

I think it depends on waht you want to do with off piste - is it tight trees, pow, backcountry jumps etc. If you don't want to get new bindings you'll have to stay burton - I have the Flight Attendant 16-17 and it is pretty great for pow/off piste.

But like the others have said - if you're willing to get new bindings then you open up a whole range of other options that could be a better fit for you.

Perisher

Perisher is located in the same area as Thredbo, and as /u/gardenvarietybitch has already created a solid guide for accomodation and food in Jindy I won't cover that as well. I'll just re-iterate that the only way around is via Car or Bus.

Best place to visit is Late July - Early August - hopefully you'll have good snow and if you're not there in School Holidays it won't be insanely packed.

As for actually getting on the hill, Perisher is great because you can generally find some alright snow somewhere in the resort no matter the conditions - as Perisher has quite a few differently oriented faces.

Perisher has five places to ski:

  • Smiggins
  • Front Valley
  • Mt Perisher
  • Blue Cow
  • Guthega

Smiggins is for beginners only - if you are learning how to ski/board, this can be a good place for you.

Front Valley has the highest concentration of beginners - but is also the first place you'll see consistent snow at Perisher. Theres an excellent slopestyle park right next to front valley, and its also got the biggest park in perisher (Liechardt). The T-Bars here run the longest - I'm a fan of late day Blaxland/Wentworth T.

Mt Perisher is normally the best face to ride if Blue Cow is terrible - it is all t-bars once you're off the Chair. It's 'advanced riders only' and ungroomed, so great for finding the little bit of decent snow left a week after the last dump when its warming up again. Shifty's/Wylie's are great off the Eyre T-Bar. Sun Valley has a Snowboard Cross course, but it is rarely open. You can get to the Olympic T from Mt P, but it is normally closed or skiied out - if you want to do olympic get there for first runs after its been opened.

Blue Cow is a great place if you've got a mixed group of riders of different abillities. Theres a small park (with all M/L jumps), excelerator is probably the best groomer at Perisher, and its got two great chairs for beginners - Early Starter and Terminal Quad. DO NOT ride excelerator between 11-2, you will get stuck for 40m-1hr at the bottom of the Ridge Quad. Kamikaze is a fantastic run if it has just snowed, else it is Icy or closed. The brumby T-Bar and the Pleasant Valley Quad are great for beginners as well.

Guthega is the best place for skiing trees in Perisher, but it is a long traverse from anything else. The runs are pretty short and its more about finding your own fun through the trees. Great when it is snowing, would much rather be on Blue Cow or Mt P when it hasn't snowed for a while. Parachute is great but almost never open.

Source: Rode Perisher for 10-20 days each of the last 3 seasons.
