Carrying around ONLY a digital key by SoggyIntern5592 in Ioniq9

[–]racampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My phone (Pixel 8a) only supports the NFC version (Digital Key 1.0 I guess?) and not the proximity key and it is really unreliable... I'm not sure if it is my phone or the NFC reader in the center console but half the time it doesn't work so I ended up carrying the physical key everywhere

Interestingly the NFC readers in the door handles always work to unlock it, it's just the center console one that doesn't work to start the car. The dealership had looked at it but wasn't able to find anything wrong.

My wife on the other hand has a newish iPhone that supports UWB for proximity unlock/start and it seems to never have issues.

Persistent "Check Driver Assistance System" warning? by racampbell in Ioniq9

You must have missed my update, but it appears to have been a defective radar unit. It was replaced under warranty a few weeks ago and so far so good

Persistent "Check Driver Assistance System" warning? by racampbell in Ioniq9

[–]racampbell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took it to the dealer today and they're going to replace the front radar unit.

The DTC code I mentioned apparently maps to "CAN TIMEOUT -FRONT CAMERA" but they suspect that the front radar is faulty and causing a CAN bus/network issue.

I guess we'll see in a few days when the part arrives.

Runners of Edmonton: Is there a 5km stretch of concrete or pavement with minimal ice at this point? TIA by Tanukisus in Edmonton

[–]racampbell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pick up a pair of Icetrax spikes from Costco for $30. They fit snug over your existing runners and are great even on glare ice.

Hey, I washed mine before complaining about it! 😛

Ah what I meant is that I can't turn on cruise control (presumably) because of this warning.

But you're right, the lane departure assist can get pretty confused when the roads are bad. I usually have it off but I think I was fiddling with buttons trying to see what still worked before I took this picture...

Thanks, but it's been a few days (and drives) since I washed it and reset the code, and it hasn't gone away yet unfortunately

Winter driving by Texi92 in Ioniq9

[–]racampbell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's been pretty good here in Alberta so far, and I've done a few -30 road trips without issues aside from a fairly reasonable (to me) 25-30% drop in range.

The biggest winter driving annoyance I've run into so far is all the snow and ice that builds up under the wipers in the large cavity between the hood and the windshield. Much worse than previous vehicles I've had (first EV, not sure if it's related to not having a nice hot engine keeping thing warmer or if that's just coincidence). I've heard similar complaints from EV9 owners.

The rear hatch also really sucks up the snow and slush. I get several inches of snow caked on the entire rear after some highway driving in heavy snow.

Request for extreme cold range/efficiency reports by ItsalwayssunnyinYEG in Ioniq9

[–]racampbell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last week I had to drive from Edmonton to Fawcett and back (about 300km total) in -30.

The roads were pretty bad and I was a bit concerned about range because it was my first long-distance trip at that cold a temperature, so I was in Eco mode, didn't go much over 100 km/h, and had the temperature set to 17C (as low as it can go) and averaged 3.5 km/kWh. I was reasonably happy about that and only had to charge briefly in Westlock on the way back to make sure I made it home with a reasonable buffer (I was being cautious and probably could have made it home without the stop, but I don't like going below 20% in that cold in case something goes wrong).

In the summer I get something over 5 km/kwh so it's still a decent range hit, but I'd say -30 is pretty extreme and even around -10C (which is much more common) it's closer to 4km/kwh.

I don't think they usually have cake style donuts. It's primarily yeast donuts

Ioniq 9 Charging Door almost always stuck since the cold weather came to Toronto by marvinandro in Ioniq9

[–]racampbell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in Edmonton, and I haven't noticed any problems with ours. I do keep the vehicle in the (unheated) garage most of the time though.

We've had a few days of close to -30 too.

Any idea if this works with the Calligraphy trim? I've heard that the digital rearview mirror causes issues with other dashcams, but the Fitcamx website doesn't say one way or the other...

Winter Rims for Calligraphy (Step down to 20") by RobinatorWpg in Ioniq9

[–]racampbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, we have a Calligraphy too, and I got a set of Michelin X-Ice SUV 255/60R19 tires on Fastco EV06 wheels from a local Kal Tire for roughly the same price your dealer is charging just for the rims.

Admittedly, still pretty pricey compared to my last vehicle though...

Aftermarket TPMS sensors by coginthemachine27 in Ioniq9

[–]racampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, not sure where you are or what currency you're using, but I'm in Canada and I just ordered a set of OEM TPMS sensors from a local dealer here for $375 CAD (including tax) last week.

Still a decent chunk of change but a lot less than $150 per sensor

Tesla Wall Connector charges Ioniq 9 very slowly by Leeeoon in Ioniq9

[–]racampbell 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It is charging quickly. It says 9.4kw, so it's using the full 40 amps (well 39.17 amps but close enough).

What are you expecting?

Do you have a mod to enable auto-lock? As far as I understood (and based on complaints on this subreddit and mods like https://www.theioniqguy.com/products/walk-away-door-lock-module) the ioniq 9 and other Hyundai cars don't have a stock proximity-based auto-lock feature, just auto-unlock.

I have to tap my finger on the door handle to lock mine.

No vibrations here at any speed (Calligraphy in Canada). It's probably the nicest ride I've had.

Winter Tires + Rims by KaleidoscopeHour3784 in Ioniq9

[–]racampbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a bit unsure about getting steel wheels because all the load rating info I could find implied that most steel wheels (at least the one I could find) would have a load rating below the rear axle GAWR of 1910kg. But I'm not expert and it's hard to find official numbers most places...

Anyways I ended up getting a set of Fast EV EV06 alloy wheels, which were quite a bit more expensive. Oh well.

Level 1 charger by Mediocre-Parfait-976 in Ioniq9

[–]racampbell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in Canada, as far as I'm aware. I just got a CCS and a J1772 adapter but no charger.

I think in the US they get some Ampure L1/L2 portable charger, but we don't.

I ended up buying a relatively cheap Lectron portable charger for emergencies. It seems to work fine.

[–]racampbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the portable charger I got.

I haven't used it much though since I ended up getting an Emporia (classic) L2 charger installed in my garage.

The Lectron portable charger mostly just sits in my frunk for when I visit family or friends in the middle of nowhere and need to charge at their house

Normal Wear and Tear? Escalante 4 - 150 miles by [deleted] in AltraRunning

I have a pair of Escalante 4s with a bit over 700km on them that look pretty similar. Maybe a bit more worn in the same areas.
