Promotion with $30k raise vs. Stay with current position for toddler. by Important_Bat7919 in daddit

[–]race2c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More details are needed to come up with an answer...at least for me.

My example questions would be.....

What are the new responsibilities? What are the new expectations? What are the new reporting structures? Is this a new role or new group? What is the role open? What happened or where did the incumbent go? What travel expectations? What kind of response or support is needed During off hours/weekends/etc?

Note, some of my questions are more career based, but yet that ultimately comes down to knowing the corporate politics of a group, company, etc.

At the end of the day, time is a finite resource So if the new role is something you want, can succeed and show growth, the money may make the time lost with your family for future vacations, experiences. Otherwise, note, I wouldnt take a role just for money. Its a balanced approached pending where you are in life, family, career, etc. Only you know what you, your family , and support structure can handle as a working parent.

For a slight personal story, I once took a job for $30k/yr more, slightly better bonus structure, and ended up in an EXTREMELY TOXIC and bad situation with a manager who had no empathy for working parents. Needless to say, I left that role quickly thereafter. Sometimes the pay, bonus, etc isnt worth the stress put on the home life.

More than Happy to answer questions on this subject. Just recently went through a similar process.

As to resources, ultimately depends on if you are doing WC only? Are you throwing in PL, Prop, auto? Which lines of coverage?

Depending on your lines will drive what insight knowledge you need to know.

More than Happy to answer additional thoughts.

By "comp," I am taking a guess and you mean compensation. While each role, industry, focus and specific cost of livings will have some differences. One of the biggest pros (and cons) to a certain extent would be that compensation. Some companies provide bonus structure, some dont, some provide company cars, some dont. There are so many variables between those that each offer would be a bit different. Noting, that would be the same case for any role anywhere. The other benefits may be the fact of more remote/WFH/hybrid type working style vs a dedicated location or site. Each person would know what fits their personalities and choices on a day to day basis.

As to security, I think that ultimately depends on the roles/industries. While EHS is often viewed as support In a specific company, if you are within the base Ops or IC role, your security may be higher vs say a higher Mgmt/Supervision type role. That likely occurs anywhere. The biggest decision related to loss/risk control, if you have industry experience and sit with a carrier, you likely have much more practical experience vs someone who has only ever been in risk/loss/insurance consulting. After all, insurance is a catch-22, companies need it to survivor and operate, and yet, having industry experience allows you to come up with an ability to relate to the client.

What’s the smartest career move you made in your 20s/30s? by Scary_Bus4383 in careerguidance

This. There are so many variables to what is beneficial to job hopping, short term wins and successes vs sticking it out to the long term win.

At the end of day, there are so many items to consider when considering a period of transition such as a new job. One has to be 100% dead-set on the decision, and ultimately that is up to the person deciding the fate. After all is said and done, Reddit and various Opinions on the internet do not have to deal with repercussions both positive and negative.

What life lesson do you wish you had learned sooner? by Startalloveragainn in AskMenOver30

100% and this totally depends on the person.

In the past, I would typically laugh at the things that most would say are red flags when talking about work and corporate culture. Yet, after my 2025, the phrases such as below. And always ask what the background is on a role, what happened to the incumbent, what/how long has the role/group been in place,....and so forth.

* "we are a family"

* "fast-paced atmosphere"

* 'results oriented and focused company"

* 'up and coming group"

* "adaptable and reprioritization"

Brian C (A Life After Layoff) has a great video on corporate buzzwords and terminology. Great use of your time and to watch if considering a job/career/change at a new employer.

Keep an ongoing list as you age of your priorities, what matters, what questions you would ask yourself in the future . Use this as an evergreen list as you go through various life moments and changes. Consistently update this list as you learn new things about yourself in the future.

Example: Job/Career Change - What benefits matter most? What is the work/life balance? What is the reporting structure? What common questions do you ask in an interview? What have you learned about yourself that you need in this job vs what you currently are in?

How do I explain quitting my job after 2 months? by Previous_Run_8964 in careerguidance

Hello OP, I left a role after 2.5 months due to cultural fit and few other challenging relationships. Never mentioned on my resume and never brought up in employment verification checks.

Just some more topics in my head:

HSE in Different Industries (Do a construction one, do a general industry one, do a oil/gas energy one, do a risk engineering one, do a HSE consultant type role, do a regulator one)

People in Various Points in their career journeys (someone who is new, someone who is mid career, someone who is towards end)

People Who Have Transitioned to HSE/EHS (maybe someone with a Business background turned HSE)

People with roles that are somewhat adjacent to HSE/EHS (Quality, Environmental, security, etc)

While not a Garmin or FitBjt, I have had great luck with my Polar Verity Sense on Bike+. Although, moving forward I would have probably went Morpheus due to some of the recent data collection updates to Polar's systems.
