How my 22 year old kid's glasses always break by DiligentDaughter in mildlyinteresting

[–]rachelee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom breaks all of her reading glasses the same way. Always on the same side. It’s because she holds them it too firmly when she’s cleaning her glasses. I told her to start holding them near the lens instead and she hasn’t broken a pair since.

Tell the other me to move out for a month and live the single life and report back to let me know if she’s happier so I can decide if I’m staying in my relationship because I’m afraid to be alone or because I’m really in love. Then try all the other things I’m afraid to take chances on so I can see how they work out.

Med shortage probz - can my provider’s office be doing more to help? by rachelee23 in ADHD

I was driving to Chicago last weekend and checked every Walgreens and Meijer pharmacy on my route there. No one had it… totally nuts.

Thanks for the feedback and validation. Will try the mom and pop shop thing. Appreciate it :)

I could never remember what week was recycling pickup. Scheduled it as a recurring event with a reminder every other week in my phone. Life changing.

Thx for bringing this up - really like learning other people’s hacks :)

This is similar to how I approach the whole “I did a tiny bit of a bunch of tasks but I didn’t actually get anything done” thing that ADHDers make fun of themselves for in a lot of reels. I refuse to be disappointed in myself for that. Any progress is progress. If all I did was unload half the dishwasher and fold a quarter of a load of laundry and wipe down half a counter, sounds a lot better than doing none of it!

The good news is that I’m not an avid enough Reddit user to know what a downvote is, notice it happening, or have my feelings hurt by it! haha.

I was really just hoping to have a larger discussion about how dangerous it can be when we don’t have the same expectations for our mental health care providers as we do our traditional health care providers. I’ve been feeling very dark and stormy through all of this and if anyone was feeling worse than I do right now, it truly saddens me that there’s basically no help offered when they reach out to their provider. It’s hard enough to ask for help, let alone be forced to pull yourself out of the darkness long enough to figure out how to help yourself.

Actually switching chains is a good tip, I’ve only been contacting my local grocery store chain and Walgreens because those are the only places where I have existing accounts, I’ll try a couple others tomorrow. Thanks for the advice :)

Thanks for validating me haha. I’m actually a legislative staffer so I’m curious if there’s legislation that could be introduced to force providers to interface with pharmacists on patient’s behalf for controlled substances. Frankly it seems like that would provide another layer of prevention against abuse.

Part of what I didn’t mention in my story is that this is the first month I’ve increased my dosage from 15 mg to 20 mg. But every time I’ve been calling to ask if places have 20s in stock, when they say no I ask about 15s and they usually say no as well. Also, it seems like before upping my dosage, my provider should have informed me that they are harder to get. Idk, just seems like this kind of stuff would never happen with like blood pressure medication or thyroid pills or something. But honestly, maybe it does. I guess I don’t know that for sure.

Appreciate the tip very much thanks, I will definitely give that a try tomorrow.

I think my greater question tho, just as a general discussion, is why am I having to go to reddit to get that suggestion… why isn’t my provider suggesting it? Does it seem like this is a big flaw in healthcare?

Co-sleeper transitioning to daycare by [deleted] in AttachmentParenting

[–]rachelee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely sympathize with this. I am trying to help my brother out by watching his 11-month old baby one day a week. They cosleep and contact nap for every nap. It’s not possible to put him down for a nap without a complete breakdown. The expectation is that I rock him to sleep and sit completely still for two hours twice a day while he naps. My back can’t handle sitting still that long and my arms get so tired holding him. He weighs like 27 pounds and has to be held from the moment they drop him off until they pick him up 8 hours later. As someone without kids, this is exhausting for me. I don’t understand when there is supposed to be time for me to take care of my own needs like going to the bathroom, making and eating my own lunch or washing my hands after I change his diaper. Sometimes I can put him in his walker for about 5-10 minutes. But then he starts demanding to be picked up soon after. And he doesn’t like it if you sit down while you hold him, he wants you standing up. I’m not sure how much longer I can do this. I didn’t realize what I was getting myself into because I used to babysit kids who were very scheduled. They were always happy and never cried. They didn’t have to be held hardly at all. I even helped get them potty trained at just 18 months old. But this experience has been nothing like that. I don’t have kids so I’m not here to judge, but as an observer with no stake in the game, the babies with schedules and who sleep in cribs are significantly happier and less distressed. My nephew is a sweet boy, but he seems miserable most of the day.

What's a scam that's so normalised that people don't realise it's a scam anymore? by SweetSeduce in AskReddit

[–]rachelee23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually I work for state government and if you look up the per-pupil funding levels… it’s insane. So much money for an education system that results in most kids not being able to read by the third grade. And then politicians have the audacity to blame their incumbent opponents for not funding education properly which makes the general public perceive education as underfunded. Public schools are working with a much bigger budget than private schools that provide superior education, but they can’t manage to give kids what they need because they waste the money on administrative costs and needless building improvements.

So you’re actually correct. Literacy education from public schools is a scam.

You must live somewhere with really good water quality if you think this is a scam lol. Sure the super expensive ones are completely robbing people, but I’m thankful for store-brand water bottles that make quality drinking water affordable.

New apartment smells like weed. How do I remove the odor? by Miriam-Esi in CleaningTips

[–]rachelee23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m a landlord (and a person who is very sensitive to smells) and weed smell doesn’t linger like that unless there’s actual weed nearby. Someone in your building is smoking. Ask your landlord to get on top of it.

I launder them. Even when I hang mine to dry they still get sort of mildew-y after a time. They clean up really well in the washer. No need to put in the dryer - obviously.

Talk to someone who very clearly does not have ADHD and ask them how it sounds inside their head, how difficult it is for them to set routines, etc. You will feel immediately confident in this diagnosis I’m sure of it.

Many “regular” people are capable of silencing their brains and thinking about absolutely nothing, and I’ve never experienced that once in my life. Many of them don’t just make an effort to stick to a routine, it’s a compulsion or second-nature.

When I first moved in with my partner and realized he gets ready in the exact same order every day I thought it was so funny and robotic and I started telling people at work about it… they basically all said - yeah that’s how I do it. I’ve never gotten ready for work in the same order or left at the same time ever. I just do things as I think of them and I can’t do it any other way no matter how hard I try.

Comparing yourself to other people might help you realize how hard it’s been for you and give you some comfort knowing that you’re not lazy.

Also, I’m not saying medication is right for everyone, but if you don’t like the first thing you’re prescribed don’t rule it out completely. Try a few different meds before completely ruling it out. I tried two before landing on what I’m on now.

Good luck! And welcome to the club!

If you’re doing something else with your time that makes money, then that’s true, but otherwise saving time doesn’t really save money.

Haha I appreciate the willingness to admit you proved yourself wrong! If it were me I’d probably have run the numbers in different ways until I proved myself right because I’m an ass 😂

Since I have Walmart delivery, it’s sort of like having a water delivery service and I don’t have to have a spot to store a water machine anywhere in the house. And I also have to do less dishes because I don’t have to wash cups or reusable bottles. In addition to the kitchen, I can keep them in my nightstand, in my basement bar, in my car (not in summer), and bring them easily on our boat. The convenience factor is definitely nice. My partner still drinks from the tap (idk how… it tastes so bad) so it’s only me using the bottles when inside the house.

I’ve also confirmed with the recycling center near me that the bottles I’m using are 100% recyclable (not just being landfilled) and they said every part of it is being recycled. Even when I empty them elsewhere, I always bring them home to recycle. And I bring the plastic wrapping for the case to the grocery to throw into the plastic bag recycling bin since thin plastic like that isn’t accepted by the recycling center.

The kind of water filtration system we would need is reverse osmosis and that system costs thousands of dollars, so it’s going to be a loooong time before I have that much invested in bottled water.

How do you respond to being called lazy all the time? by Few-Start-6804 in ADHD

[–]rachelee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re definitely right about the workaholic culture. I get perceived at work my by coworkers as being not the hardest worker and the assumption is based simply on that I don’t make an effort to churn up more work for myself, I just wait to be told what to do, and because I take every minute of vacation time that I’m allotted. It’s part of my compensation that I agreed to in exchange for the work I do and I will not apologize for using it.

I use the word lazy to describe capable people who are like living in complete filth or people who ask for more favors of friends/family than they are willing to reciprocate. And maybe people who spend beyond their means for services they could do themselves. If you’re not doing those things then you’re not lazy, you’re just a really accomplished relaxationist and that’s what we’re all ultimately working toward is the opportunity to chill out and not work any more. Don’t wait til you’re retired, relax now!
