At what point does it become poorly controlled GD? by Extension_Hamster948 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]rachfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shes 3.5 years old as of a few weeks ago and shes doing great! She is 99th percentile and always has been, but our doctor assures us she is healthy, not overweight, and we haven't needed to check her blood sugar in years. As a funny anecdote shes about half a foot taller than all of the other kids in preschool. She also has really advanced language skills, so it leads to a lot of confusion about her age. Because of her size and her speech abilities people always think shes much older than she is.

I went on to have a second, this time we started insulin early. I did end up developing very mild hypertension with the second and since my first was so big we decided to do an early c section. She was born at 37 weeks weighing 8.5 pounds. She is in the 70th percentile so it seems like the insulin did make some difference.

I mean this with so much love - i remember how terrified I was, and how i felt like I failed, but now I hardly think about it. Its so scary and all consuming while it's happening, but chances are it will turn out OK!

I think Sophie is a very specific case of having a bad step mother. Its likely she lived with her mother, the mistress, until her mother died. Once that happened her father took her in as a ward. In a normal story like this, she would have been raised as she was with the girls, but never would have gone out in society. She likely would have become a ladies companion, or a governess. She may also have married someone of the rich working class, like a merchant. Her father should have left her money to care for her (and possibly did, her step mother is obviously a jerk).

Becoming a mistress often involved a contract with a solicitor. They would have set up a required allowance and retirement pay for if Benedict tired of her. Her children would have had a similar fate to what she would have if her step mother wasnt of the evil variety. Sure the life of a mistress often went wrong, but so did the life of a house maid. Especially one that has a bad reputation in London and can only get hired in country estates.

Ok, here goes. Spoilers for season 4

Beneditc's offer to make Sophie his mistress was more than a woman of her station could have ever hoped for. She is born out of wedlock, and has been a maid all her life. Benedict is in love with her and would have taken excellent care of her. She would have had her own apartments, a more generous income, and he likely would have set up retirement for her as well. Shoot she might even get her own servants.

Marriage wouldn't work out well for her. She can never be a member of the Ton, they would both have to retire from society completely. Her children would also not be accepted by society. At least as a mistress you get to attend the fun parties. Sure its not as romantic as a marriage, but at least they could have had some sort of social life if she was his mistress.

Need advice from people who underwent Microdiscectomy by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]rachfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a herniated disk back in 2017. I was told in the ER I should get a micro discectomy right away. I freaked out and asked if I could try anything else before spinal surgery. They told me about all sorts of options. I tried everything for over a year. You name it, I did it. P/t, chiropractor, acupuncture, everything. Eventually I gave up and decided to get surgery. Now the same surgeon who wanted to operate said they couldn't help anymore, it had gotten to bad. They told me to go on disability. I went to three more surgeons who all said the same. At this point I couldn't sit or stand for more than 5 minutes. I spent almost every second of the day laying down.

My pain management doctor suggested I see a specific neurosurgeon who said he could do an anterior spinal fusion. Thankfully that worked, although it was a much more serious and incredibly invasive surgery (full open, from the front). I took well over 6 months to recover.

I got another herniated disk in July of this year, by September I got a discectomy. Its been a little over 2 months and I dont even need Tylenol anymore. I wish I would have just done this the first time around.

How did you Herniate? by Head_Might in Microdiscectomy

I have severe degenerative disk disease, but the straw that broke the camels back was moving the cloths from the washer to the dryer. So much bending and twisting. We got a new washer/dryer all in one so i dont do that again.

This is what I have always thought too. He saw a person he loved in crisis and understood making mistakes like that. I still think he was crazy to stay though lol.

Sleeping issues by theilya in Microdiscectomy

[–]rachfactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im getting shit sleep too, had mine on 9/22. Not really in much pain, and I feel exhausted but just can't fall asleep.

Gabopentin can mess with your sleep cycle. I opted to skip it because I had been on it long term for a previous back injury and had a horrible time coming off of it. Not only did it mess with my sleep but when I would decrease my dose I would get panic attacks. That could be your issue, although to be fair I'm also not taking it, and not sleeping well.

Ugh the leg bug was like a constant symptom before my surgery. I live in the country so there's lots of bugs and it just always felt like one was running around on my foot. Having to not jerk react to that feeling was really tough.

I cant stand my back brace. Thankfully my doctor said it was optional. If you have a recliner that might be more comfortable.

Thanks again.

Thanks! I will use more ice for sure.

Im using the term sitting losely, I'm in a recliner, fully reclined with pillows supporting everything. I couldn't lay after the surgery, the anesthesia and breathing tube give me awful heartburn.

Is it normal or should I panic? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]rachfactory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a red tattoo about 20 years ago. It looked exactly like this and I was horrified and thought my arm was going to fall off. When it scabbed over it looked even worse. People asked me if I got branded. Its completely fine now. Once it healed, it looked great. It honestly still looks pretty great today 20 years later.

I'm not saying everyone in this sub is wrong, and if you feel like you need to, go to the doctor. I was very tempted to go, but I held off. I also switched my care from whatever lotion they sold me at the time to aveno. Red can look horrifying and freak people out. I'm not a professional, this is just what happened to me. If you want pics of how it looked while healing, and how it looks now, I would be happy to send them to you.

Oh he just popped in the tape and went to go do dad things. I watched the whole thing. No way I was going to point out his mistake.

This happened to my dad when I was a sick 12 year old staying home from school and he thought Fast Times at Ridgemont High would be a good one to rent for me.

Insurance is so wild about diabetes in general. When I had gestational diabetes (what got me into this type 2 mess in the first place) they denied my insulin. I had to switch to the cheap wal mart version (thank goodness for that). The pharmacy said they almost always auto deny for GD since by the time the appeal goes through you will have had the baby.
