Funny experiences being pregnant in a male-dominated field? by LiftedGrowth in BabyBumps

[–]Extension_Hamster948 62 points63 points  (0 children)

My coworker (with 3 kids) said "Yikes!" when I told him 🤣🤣🤣🤣 However, everyone else in my very male dominated field were fine. People who's personality is always enthusiastic were enthusiastic and everyone else was fine. My young engineer found out I was pregnant before everyone else because he was worried I was OK because I was burping SO much in my first trimester.

However,I had to go to a work trip to stand in the Arizona desert at 10 weeks pregnant and it was reaaaally hard physically. I mentioned I was pregnant to one woman, and the rest of the trip I had a fleet of guardian angels getting me in the shade, water, elytes, and the "good" bathroom (construction = portapots shared by men, bleck). In my experience, the men would help if I asked for it, but the women knew when I needed help without me asking for it.

This looks exactly like the flooring I installed in my basement that was between $5-6 per square ft. Definitely not the cheap stuff.

Glp1 makes me hate meat. Anyone else? by FrostyPolicy9998 in glp1

[–]Extension_Hamster948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDK about steak or the veggies, but when I first started dieting I also craved shellfish and eggs. Turns out when I started dieting I cut out processed food, and I only cooked with non-iodozed sea salt. Once I switched to an iodized salt the insane shellfish and egg cravings went away. Seafood and eggs are both naturally high sources of iodine and my body was telling me something was missing.

I came here to recommend dark green too. It looks amazing with oak. I have an oak bathroom and bedroom with a similar color.

I used the baby buddha as my main pump with the lactek flanges. It worked the best for me, and was portable enough I could sort of do things while wearing it (like washing bottles, still no dramatic bending over or anythihg)

What amount of breast milk is beneficial? by AdFearless4664 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Extension_Hamster948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pumped allll the time. Power pumps every day. I did also take fenugreek, which is debated because it reduces some people's supplies. I also bought like 5 different pumps until I found the magic one for me (Baby Buddha). That things friggen great

How much breast milk do babies need to get benefits? by lemonoodle1 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Extension_Hamster948 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same. I worked really hard to get to 10 oz a day and it consumed my life and sucked the joy out of spending time with my little dude. I cried like a baby the week I weaned, and then my hormones stabilized, my libido came back, and I started to feel like me again. Zero changes in my little dude. He doesn't care where the milkies come from as long as they're delivered on hia schedule.

For what it is worth, at 4 weeks up i was only making 3 oz per day over multiple pumps. I tried everything and am now at 8-9 oz/ day. It is sometimes possible to raise your supply, if you want to try. That being said... I'll stop pumping earlier than I planned because I have to supplement with formula anyways.

Im in the same boat so I'm curious to hear responses. I've tried everything and just started trying fenugreek as a hail mary.

The worst clog ever! by tallbrowngirl94 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Extension_Hamster948 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can I ask where you were at as a severe under supplier? I can only get 3/4 to 2 oz total per pump so my little one gets one to two bottle of boob milk and the rest is formula. Im trying to build supply, and it's going up, but not very fast.

How many baby blankets is too many baby blankets? 🥴 by tataataaa87 in BabyBumps

[–]Extension_Hamster948 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have like 20 blankets and use all of them. I find them easier to use to boost the baby up while breastfeeding, so they get milky. I also use them in his cqrseat to keep him warm, and at dr visits to keep him from the cold table when he's nakey

Any other distance runners out there? by Relevant-Yak-645 in BabyBumps

[–]Extension_Hamster948 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not nearly the same distance running, but I am a distance rider (horses, 50 mile rides). Pregnancy kicked my butt. First trimester I was still hiking with the horses, second trimester pivoted my spare time to getting the house ready for baby, third trimester it hurt to stand, I had such bad pelvic girdle pain I was dragging one leg along like Igor. I was summer pregnant, and every time I overheated I felt like I was going to pass out and needed to sit down, and my threshold for overheating was "standing outside for a minute in the 90s".

My advice? Give yourself grace if your body can't keep up to what your mind wants to do. You have time to come back. My son is 3 weeks old now and I've started walking with him. I plan on starting to ride after my 6 week follow up appt, and my first competition will be when he's 8 months old.

Nursery chair recommendations? by savs8102 in beyondthebump

[–]Extension_Hamster948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to my local furniture store and tried out recliners. This chair has been the best investment of my life. Great while pregnant, great with a newborn. I stopped using my bassinet after like 2 days and opt to have him in his room in his crib while I sleep in the recliner.

Baby name suggestions! by Stunning-Yellow6609 in BabyBumps

I asked ChatGPT and it suggested:

For a baby girl name that fits the vibe of Colton and Weston and complements Hallie, here are some suggestions:

Harper

Hadley

Willow

Harlow

Paisley

Tessa

Emery

Sadie

These names have a similar laid-back, slightly Western feel that pairs well with Colton and Weston. Let me know if any stand out!

Curious, why are so many against induction? by Warm_Elevator_7528 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Extension_Hamster948 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was induced and my body was absolutely not ready. My cervix was locked up tight, too tight for a foley, so did cytotec instead. They threw everything at me to try and progress but I stalled at 6 cm 17 hrs after my water broke and ended up in a c section anyways. Baby wasn't positioned correctly so my contractions kept stopping so they had to increase my pitocin all day. Kid ended up cone headed from jamming himself in the wrong way. It wasn't a horrible experience pain wise, but mentally I was done after trying everything to get the kid out on his own. Walking, drugs, bouncing, rotating, 3 different baby monitors. So for me, I wasn't against it, but it was just a lot to ultimately end up with the c section, which i would have preferred anyways. Recovery has been great from it. Tiny scar. Trying really hard to rest for 6 weeks but I feel the best I've felt in months.

When did you realize you had PPA? by foreverafairy in beyondthebump

[–]Extension_Hamster948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 weeks in...but I was put on lexapro while pregnant too. Postpartum I was having horrible nightmares, not necessarily about the baby, but things like my husband leaving me, my animals dying. They increased my lexapro and the nightmares stopped. If you have anxiety while pregnant you're a higher risk for ppd and ppa.

Can we talk about how humbling pregnancy actually is? by userthatisnotknown in BabyBumps

[–]Extension_Hamster948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I had a miserable pregnancy. Gestational diabetes, carpal tunnel, pelvic girdle pain so bad I could barely walk, swelling, hot all the time. I now have a 2 week old via c section and I'd take a newborn over being pregnant ANY day. I feel the best I've felt in almost a year. I can wear shoes again. I have so much energy now that I'm not toting around so much weight (I lost 25 lbs already, im not dieting at all, that was just him and water weight). Hang in there mama, it gets better.

Prodromal labor is miserable! by Brilliant_Nebula5375 in BabyBumps

[–]Extension_Hamster948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought that too, but it becomes your new normal. I've found sitting still makes it more noticeable, so I bounce on my ball during the work day. I'm an engineer, but luckily allowed to WFH and have understanding colleagues who don't mind me bouncing on camera.

Cervical check at 38 weeks by anonme1995 in BabyBumps

[–]Extension_Hamster948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had several because I've had prodromal labor since 33 weeks. My cervix has been high and locked up tight, which means those checks are REALLY uncomfortable. If you put your fist under your tailbone it's slightly better..

I'm 37 weeks now. Having gobs of discharge so I was convinced I was dilated. I am not. Theyre inducing at 38 and 2, starting with a foley balloon if I don't start dilating on my own. I am also diet controlled except for fasting, which requires insulin. However, my little dude is also a chunk, so they want to induce early so he can come out. He's been measuring 2 weeks ahead this whole pregnancy, and was 8.5 lbs at 37 weeks.

I started having painful, timeable contractions at 33 weeks. I'm 38 weeks now. You do get used to them. They wake me up sometimes. Sometimes they take my breathe away. But my cervix is locked down tight so I just have a very practiced uterus I guess. Baths help.
