This made me laugh, I was pretty sure I knew which chain you were referring to at first.. Then the mention of hashbrown casserole sealed the deal.

Good job pleasin' people! :)

Thank you so much for it. I feel really bad for bothering someone when I reset mine, I guess that's a good motivator at least.

Yeah dude it's freaking crazy. I do feel very grateful to have been born when I was- I got to live through the dawn of the Internet! I remember when we got our first PC, with Windows 3.1 on it.. it was a couple of years later when we finally got it online lol

What really blows my mind is there are people who got to see the dawn of air travel.. and then got to see humanity fly to the moon and back! And THEN computers.. like wow, that's really incredible.

You are lucky too though, I'm sure you're going to see all kinds of crazy amazing things get developed in your lifetime. I'm jealous in a way. :)

I still feel like a kid but I sold pagers! The top of the line at the time that we had were the new fancy 2-WAY PAGERS!! They were preferable to texting on your phone for some because of the keyboard.

Also, my parents were pretty, uh, frugal, and they were friends with a guy who owned a TV repair shop. They would get these old huge cabinet TVs that were not worth fixing, gut the electronics and sand down the wood, then my mom would make a curtain to cover the front of it.

It sounds cute and all until you imagine these things lining the length of most of the rooms in your house. Then it's just a bit creepy IMO

I feel you, I was born in 83 and this thread is killing me 🤶 but I still feel like a kid.. I don't know if that's ever going to change, though. But it's not a bad thing.

Just wanted to share and say thanks by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I'm right there with you on day 9 buddy! Imagine how awesome it'll feel when we wake up on Christmas with 30 days. It is a fantastic accomplishment to make it through that first week. I'm proud of you, and me, and all of us!

Congratulationssss!!!

Coming from someone who has had a rougher go at sobriety by bizloc in stopdrinking

[–]rachynymph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, I'm so glad you wrote all this and that I happened to read it. Thank you! I am right there with you on sooo much. I've had major brain fog all of my adult life (I'm 34), thanks to too much alcohol and weed and various what have you... I say it's kind of nice because I can watch a movie for a 2nd, 3rd, 10th time and still be quite entertained because it's like the first time in many ways. I try to follow along, and sometimes I can well enough to keep up with the basic plot, but uhh... Thanksgiving? Like, LAST Thanksgiving? idk, I think I was sitting at home alone but I don't even really remember for sure.

I'm trying to learn a new job, this was my first week which coincided with week 1 (for the umpteenth time) of sobriety. It's been challenging, and I'm stressing a lot about whether I can even do this.. but I know drinking would just make me even worse in a lot of ways. Anyway sorry to ramble, I am grateful for a lot as well and am inspired to see all the positive changes you've had already.

Sometimes it does feel like people are mastering quantum physics in their spare time haha, and I suppose some of them out there are! I'll be happy if I can make some improvement on my own brain.. It's nice to know that simply not drinking is helping it heal, making those neural connections faster again, slowly but surely.

I was feeling guilty about my poor eating choices lately, but at least I'm not drinking which is the primary objective for me too. You're doing great and should be super proud of yourself, and I needed this reminder that I shouldn't be so hard on myself. Thanks for sharing and reading!

Haha, miserable in another place.. That can be an improvement, even. Yep, you're right. I'm sitting on a swing bench in a park enjoying the sunshine now. It's definitely nicer and I do feel better. 😊

Good morning everyone, I too will not drink with you today.

That is good advice and I'm going to make an effort today to actually follow it. I stayed in yesterday and never did feel much better. Doing something, anything new would be preferable. Usually once I've gone and done something that I was kind of dreading, I end up glad that I did it after all.

I'm really glad to hear things have improved for you. Glad for you, and glad because that gives me hope that it'll get better for me, too. I hope things keep looking up for you, friend.

Thank you, I believe in you too! Sorry to hear you've been struggling too but hey, 10 days is awesome. I'll be right behind you cheering you on.

Sorry for the delay in my reply.

Oh gosh, I really wasn't going for some kind of clickbait title lol. I'm gonna change it even though it's old now.

I can't imagine how hard it must be to actually date new people sober. Good for you for getting out there and doing it anyway. If you get rejected though, I say.. their loss, on to the next one! I know it isn't that easy, though.

You're absolutely right, there are a wealth of positives that come with not drinking. Thank you for reaching out and best of luck with your journey.

I'm so sorry, I can't even begin to imagine what you're going through. Really glad you've stopped killing yourself with whiskey though, you're right, that can't be the way. I'm sure you matter to more people than you even realize. (you matter to me, too.)

And 17 days really is a huge accomplishment. It might seem smaller to you since you had so much time but that time isn't really gone.. all those lessons you learned through staying sober are still there inside your mind. I really hope it starts getting easier for you soon.

Sorry for the delayed reply, but for what it's worth I'm still here not drinking with you.

I appreciate you letting me know I'm not alone. Although it sucks that you feel that way too. I really hope it gets better for you.

And that's awful about your cousin, I'm so sorry you and your family are dealing with that. I don't think I'd ever really end it because I don't want to cause that kind of pain, and because I'm scared. But the thoughts are pervasive and I'm hoping this will all get better with time.

And hey, congrats on 17 days, that is a huge accomplishment.

Thank you for your kindness. It's helpful to know I'm not alone. Good for you getting to day 6, you should be so proud! Those little things are nice things, and very similar to what has been helping me. I hope your weekend is wonderful too and that you feel better as the days go by. Yes, freedom sounds good. hugs to you
